BoN[edit]

Are anonymous users allowed to make nominations? The rules, such as they are, appear ambiguous. Cosmikdebris (talk) 22:52, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

I guess so. Self-nominations are allowed so it would be odd to exclude BoN-nominations. But I guess the rules could be looked at again if there's issues --RWRW (talk) 23:08, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Why not? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ 71.3.195.138 (talk) 23:17, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Just checking. I have no problems with 71.3's nominations. More power to you. Cosmikdebris (talk) 23:28, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Also BoN nominated two Sysop revoked users (-Mona- and Pbfreespace3). The rules are way too loose, nominees should be Sysops in addition to the other requirements. Bongolian (talk) 07:47, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Currently (this year) being in sysoprevoke or being named nobs is not a disqualifying factor, but I would hope nobody votes for these people. It looks like the sysoprevoked users may miss the deadline to respond in any case. :S β€” Dysk (contribs) 09:07, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

New user who isn't them moved their names on their behalf (and as a "minor edit"). Is that kosher as well? β„•oir LeSable (talk) 20:47, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
I reverted the edit by User:No More Lead. There is no place on this wiki for trolls attempting to spin up drama like this. Cosmikdebris (talk) 21:51, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Oxy[edit]

I'm disappointed to see Oxy withdraw. I think she would have made a fine board member. 71.3.195.138 (talk) 00:53, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, but there are people who would have a vested interest in finding out my real life information I`m afraid, and I just don't want to take the risk. β€” Oxyaena Harass 00:57, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
Don't quote me on this, but in past elections they have said that it's not really "public," it's more you have to share your name with the board and with the State of New Mexico. Think about it, but I understand if you are uncomfortable because I know I wouldn't want my name out there either. 71.3.195.138 (talk) 01:01, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
It's fairly easy to get the documents with the board members named on them. Assume people will. β€” Dysk (contribs) 09:04, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
Yes, it is indeed public. Abd has been trying to dox people on RW. Bongolian (talk) 04:04, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Actually Abd turned out to be rather alright, but there are people far worse than him that peer over at RationalWiki from time to time, and these people would doxx off-wiki and it would not be very feasible to get rid of whatever they wrote. In short, if you want to remain anonymous and out of the reach of trolls the board is not for you. β€” Dysk (contribs) 22:18, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
If you mean "alright" in the sense that he made some useful contributions, then yes. But he engaged in seriously bad behavior: doxing, harassment, pseudoscience (cold fusion), repeated ban evasion, and trolling. Bongolian (talk) 22:32, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
In a sense the worst that could happen with someone like Abd is that he writes about you on his website (which isn't always even bad, there is nothing especially problematic with anything he wrote about me there for example), and if all the haters were like that it would be pretty much fine. However, if you look at the neo-Nazis, cultists, and internet trolls (and there are an ample number with articles here) they can and probably will (eg I have had this multiple times) actively try to harass you by malicious messages and posts and behaving in a threatening manner, across the internet and IRL. This is kinda bad. β€” Dysk (contribs) 22:45, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Well I am none of the above and I assure you I am not encouraging this for the sake of getting her information. As I understand, it's not published on the state site or anything, so that means (assuming New Mexico is anything like my state or the federal government), one would have to submit an information request to the state to get the board members' information, which would create a paper trail (and would constitute "aggravated stalking" in my state due to the abuse of state public records, which is a third degree felony). Sounds like a pretty stupid thing to do just for the sake of trolling... though I've heard of worse. 71.3.195.138 (talk) 02:47, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

You go to the New Mexico Secretary of State website, find company search, type RationalWiki into it; and it returns all the information including all the directors (board members) full names. You don't need to register an account, make any formal requests, or pay anything to do this because it is 2019 and it's digital. β€” Dysk (contribs) 13:11, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

It's also inaccurate and incomplete. I went through the process that Dysk just described and was rewarded with a 404 result. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 13:34, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
I redact my previous claim. I went through another rats nest of links and got the information. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 13:41, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Interesting, LeftyGreenMario has the same birthday (in a different year) as my girlfriend. That's as specific as I'm going to get about either one of them, for obvious reasons. WP:BEANS? 2607:FB90:9219:D4A9:0:F:3797:AE01 (talk) 23:34, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
