Apparently a 9/11 truther too?[edit]

I was looking through the back record of Garrison cartoons (just because I like to laugh at them one in a while), and I discovered this one about COVID-19. Hidden in the reactionary gibberish of the description is this lovely line: "US government operatives helped commit the 9-11 disaster and as a result we got the foul “Patriot Act” forced upon us." Like, what? It would be cool if someone could add a tiny section on this absolutely wack stuff. — Unsigned, by: MastermindMercury / talk / contribs 20:08, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Stopped clock[edit]

Ben G Stopped Clock.jpg

So Ben posted this a few days ago, maybe we should add this just to show that he has, at least, a tiny amount of sanity left in him. RockfordRoe (talk) 06:31, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Oh god even this guy got some sanity now. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png 🎄LeftyGreenMario!🎄 08:06, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Poe?[edit]

Depictions are over the top. Without being told otherwise I'd think he actually satirizes these ideas, how they're seen by far-right. — Unsigned, by: Arisano / talk / contribs

Capitol Riots[edit]

So I was browsing the web and saw that now he has a few cartoons endorsing the riots. Roman Sionis tends to be inactive during summer 17:51, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Number of Cartoons[edit]

Bit high, no? 𝒮𝑒𝓇𝑒𝓃𝑒 talk 16:23, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

I think the arrangement of them isn't too distracting. With a man like Ben who has so many different crank views, you kind of need to show a lot to show all the crankery. Plutocow (talk) 16:24, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Garrison's advocation for Jan 6 riots / extrajudicial executions[edit]

In the lead-up to the riots, Benny boy was putting up cartoons advocating for violence. On top of that, in the last couple of weeks, he's been putting out cartoons and accompanying rants that call for the execution of Dr. Anthony Fauci (including one depicting Fauci being hanged.) Does that kind of crankery fall under the purview of this article? - 72.177.230.219 / talk

Yes, can you provide links? Bongolian (talk) 02:36, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
My guess is for the "Fauci hanged" one the OP is referring to this cartoon, which indeed is in extremely poor taste. A recent cartoon also seemed to imply that he wanted to see Justin Trudeau run over with a lorry, which is a pretty nasty take as well. To be honest, this is pretty bad direction for Garrison. He's always been a crank but up until now he's never advocated violence against public figures before, at least that I know of.
It's also worth noting that "anti-vaccination" is such a stamp of identity for Garrison that recently he went out of his way to apply his special brand of cartoon-ism on Donald Trump and Scott Adams, just because both may have said a tiny bit of positive stuff about the COVID vaccine. (For the later, from searches, I take it /pol/ and patriots.win and other hangouts for "the paranoid style" are currently pissed at Scott Adams for some reason, but I don't care to know why at the moment. :p ) PanGalacticGargleBlaster (talk) 03:27, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
That's one of the Fauci comics, yes, PGGB. Another one that you'll miss if you don't read Ben's accompanying rants is here. I'll quote from his rant: "Fauci (never call him ‘Dr.’) has already seen his reputation fall precipitously. Now it’s time for the egg-headed so-called ’scientist’ to fall directly into prison. Or better yet, he needs to fall due to a sprung scaffold hatch below his feet." You honestly miss out on a lot of his worse rhetoric if you only look at his cartoons. As for the 1/6 cartoons, here are a few that led directly up to it. ... And also just for shiggles, an extra cartoon about how Not Mad Garrison was about a fly sitting on Pence's head during the 2020 VP debates. I hope some of these are useful; honestly there's an entire goldmine's worth of deranged rambling buried with his cartoons waiting to be addressed. Benny boy is turbofash. 72.177.230.219 / talk
From context I just think Garrison wanted to depict Fauci as committing suicide, though still shit taste. But since it can be misinterpreted as a call for violence... well you really shouldn't be drawing public figures being hung, not without tact, but Garrison and tact go together like oil and water. As for the truck again, I think it's just unsubtle metaphor of "freedom" in truck form "slamming" into this weakling and "winning". I still think that the Chinese stereotyping one is among the grossest things as well as the spanking of Greta (yikes, man). --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png 🎄LeftyGreenMario!🎄 08:11, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
I really can’t see the ”From goalposts to lampposts” part of the cartoon being a call/hope for Fauci to commit suicide, since there is a very obvious connotation of people hanging from lampposts: Honestly, how many people commit public suicide by hanging themselves from lampposts, as opposed to the very well attested examples of people being hanged from lampposts by mobs or kangaroo courts?
The question, as I see it, is more about whom this lamppost imagery is directed against: Is it Garrison suggesting that mob rule/kangaroo courts should replace shifting goalposts and be directed against Fauci et al.? Or is it an example of wingnutty fantasising about being persecuted by bloodthirsty Lib’ruls shifting from moving goalposts to mob rule/kangaroo courts directed against the brave “COVID-19 resistance”? The latter would, after all, just be an updated version of the FEMA concentration camps and death panel claptrap, so it’s not exactly an unreasonable interpretation. This interpretation would also fit quite well with the “wingnut dystopian” fantasies in the other panels (of COVID-19 initiatives being turned into permanent oppression and Hillary suddenly taking over the Biden administration). ScepticWombat (talk) 10:21, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
ScepticWombat, his violent rhetoric is definitely directed towards Dr. Fauci. I'll repeat; Garrison's screed accompanying the "Humpty Dummies" cartoon about how "[...] Or better yet, [Dr. Fauci] needs to fall due to a sprung scaffold hatch below his feet." throws his desire for Dr. Fauci's execution by hanging into sharp relief. - 72.177.230.219 / talk
I don’t doubt that, but the alternate interpretation remains valid (and I think that Garrison probably holds both opinions) — and it’s probably not a coincidence that there is some ambiguity there, even the rhetoric is not directly advocating people going after Fauci, but presumably a sort of (pseudo)legal process, given that scaffolds are usually associated with some form of formal execution (rather than the use of lampposts in mob violence). This gives Garrison wriggle room if he is called out, or if, and I really hope that never happens, some nutter and/or extremist decides to turn the gleefully violent, paranoid screeds of Garrison and others into action. ScepticWombat (talk) 18:20, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
So basically, he's keeping it just vague enough to make it an "article about a living person" issue that keeps us from addressing it in the main article? I think I get it. It's going to bug me forever, but I get it. This jackass and his "I'm not touching you" shit, ugh. - 72.177.230.219 / talk
It's probably more like figuring out how best to incorporate cartoons like these into the article, as well as time issues (it takes time to make a good edit). Anyone can edit so if you feel like having a go at it, great, that would be welcomed. I do think a new capitol riot section in particular is a good idea. There is currently only a small note in the article that he got booted off Twitter for his stance on this. Garrison has plenty of bad takes on that event so adding some of the worst cartoons in relation to that could work. Also, Garrison is unusually obsessed with Fauci and that could be added to the anti-vax section. PanGalacticGargleBlaster (talk) 19:42, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
All right, this has been a satisfying discussion to have. Hope I can put the results of it to effect on Garrison's page. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png 🎄LeftyGreenMario!🎄 21:06, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
