Idiotic article[edit]
Obviously this was written by people biased against the South. Thurmond did not hate black people. He supported federal funding for blacks and worked to end lynching. The assertion that he "hated on all people who were darker than him" is just ridiculous.--77.96.223.251 (talk) 22:36, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- He ran for president on an extreme segregationalist ticket... ClothCoat (talk) 22:51, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Why do we care?[edit]
I've read this article about this seemingly-unimportant politician who died almost 20 years ago and I can't understand why I'm supposed to care. The US must be awash with dead racist politicians. Can someone enlighten me?Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 16:05, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

- Strom Thurmond was one of the most important Dixiecrats. He introduced the Thurmond rule, that the Senate won't confirm presidential judiciary nominees in an election year. He also gave the longest filibuster speech in Senate history to stop the passage of civil rights legislation. And he was a close political ally of Ronald Reagan.
