Bugger[edit]
I've just had BSOD* on my desktop machine & have had to fire up this awful VISTA Laptop. - Machine. Main machine's still not go! Bugger Bugger Damn!!!!! ContribsTalk 12:05, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

- Hah! Still sitting there - hour glass cursor! Jellyfish - I started on Teletype - thought MSDOS was a bit too much - as for Windows! I like Linux but can't find a driver for my modem thing (I could then use my other machine) It's not the Vista so much as this laptop, I keep brushing the cursor pad or whatever it's called while I'm typing & sending the cursor all over. still: BUGGER ContribsTalk 12:20, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

Very important[edit]
I just wanted you to know Blue Shropshire is very tasty. And now you know. --Kels 14:16, 31 May 2008 (EDT)
- Most cheese is tasty, blue cheese is generally very tasty. ContribsTalk 14:22, 31 May 2008 (EDT)
- I'm not fond of the really soft cheeses, like brie and so forth. But blues are quite nice. I'd rather have a nice firm cheese, old or smoked, so it's got a nice strong flavour. Although milder stuff like Cheshire are lovely too. Needless to say, I had a chance to get to the cheese shop yesterday. =3 --Kels 14:30, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

- Unfortunately Blue Shropshire is made in Leicestershire. However, that doesn't stop our local Shropshire cheesemakers making Cheshire. I was pleased to find Mrs. Appleby's (prize-winning) Cheshire in a cheese shop in Healdsburg, California last time I was there. Also a local dairy makes Blue Cheshire which you might also like to try. I am fortunate in living close enough to visit the Nantwich International Cheese show each year which always has something tasty. Susan, I trust that you only use unpasteurised Blue Stilton? If you like tasty cheeses Kels, do try some of the extra aged (48 months) Dutch cheeses. GenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 15:47, 31 May 2008 (EDT)
- The shop I go to (there's two on the same block) generally has the 2 year, 5 year and ancient goudas, as well as a variety of ages of Beemster, Raclette and a number of the British cheeses. They've got a pretty fair variety from all over, really. --Kels 15:51, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

Choice[edit]
Lumbered, as I appear to be, with this VISTA (Ugh) laptop, I've got the choice of either installing Photoshop or downloading the Gimp - I'm accustomed to P'shop & haven't used the Gimp for about 5 years. What's the recommendation of the mob? ContribsTalk 19:54, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
- I recommend going with Photoshop. More user-friendly. Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 20:12, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
- Mm. I tend to think that too - I've just downloaded the Gimp & it's not as obvious as I recall. (Just having my weekly alcohol allowance - 2 measures of Ardbeg - YUMMY) ContribsTalk 20:20, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
- I was going to say, set up both and tell us which works better. I haven't run either in years, PS just took too long to load and could do way more than I ever wanted to do (although I did make a red car yellow once, so...). Gimp I also last saw years ago and it was weird in that it opened new windows for everything you wanted to do. So I just trundle along with PSP 6 or so, and it works. ħuman 20:57, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
- Well, the learning curve on the Gimp is horrendous but it's free. Pshop is more intuitive but that might just be because I'm more accustomed to it? I'm running with Pshop 7 from years ago & can't afford to upgrade - given the option I'd buy one of Adobe's MX selections but I think I'll persevere with Gimp (I'm reading through all the Help files now [21mb download - bigger than the program!]). (I see why they warn against alcohol with some medications last night a large scotch knocked me flat for 12 hours!) ContribsTalk 15:09, 3 June 2008 (EDT)

- Thing about Gimp though, is you've got more control over a lot of what you do. PS has a lot of extra gimmicks and such, and a lot of automated features, many of which just take up space. So to use an analogy, it's like the difference between a standard and automatic transmission. One's got more control, the other's got better cruise control --Kels 15:23, 3 June 2008 (EDT)

Alaska[edit]
We are honored with this due to the magnificent efforts of Icewedge, and he probably got a decent grade on the paper ;) Would you like to work with me on organizing it a bit better? It seems to cry out for some sections getting sub-headered under broader main headers, for example. But each time I try to approach the whole project, my head starts to hurt ;)
For instance, flora, fauna, and natural resources might go together. There's some history stuff, I think. And so on. I don't really want to hack up his text, it's not bad (once the splign eros are fixed), but it would be nice to make it "flow" better. Whatcha think? Needs more moose? (PS, up here in NH & Maine, we have had for decades now bumper stickers people can buy that say "Warning: Brake for Moose" - if you hit one in a car, you'll probably die) ħuman 21:21, 18 June 2008 (EDT)
- It struck me that it was rather non-RW in that it was devoid of snark, but my total knowledge of Alaska derives from that TV series about a doctor (?) and that song what was it? Anchorage? Other than that the article itself provides me with as much (or more) info than I really need to know.
- The only reason I put the Moose on there was that I liked it & wanted to share. The first Moose on searching RW was Alaska - so it got lucky.
- ContribsTalk 22:12, 18 June 2008 (EDT)
- Hehe. No real "knowledge" of Alaska is required, I was just looking for some hopefully motivated help in restructuring it. At least it has a moose piccie now, though! ħuman 21:12, 19 June 2008 (EDT)

“”Just yesterday on the radio I heard a conservative disc jockey say, on the air, that all liberals are "latte-drinking, soft-handed pansies" and that he can tell a liberal just by the way they speak. Imagine if he'd have said something similar about Catholics. Phil Donahue would be breaking down the door, demanding his termination. It's funny how someone like that can be so ignorant and hateful publicly about people who don't agree with him politically, but when someone expresses a lack of belief, all of the sudden the poor religious people are being persecuted.

When I explained the issue he asked (reasonably politely) if he could be deleted. I told him that was beyond the power of any one person and it was down to the mob. Do you have any feelings? It's not like CP "burning the evidence" which the standard was designed to prevent.--Bobbing up 09:34, 4 July 2008 (EDT)

My inclination would be to go as far as we can in helping him out as he might - as you say - decide to return under a different identity. Let's see if anybody else chimes in.--Bobbing up 09:48, 4 July 2008 (EDT)

- Well, actually his request was for the whole thing to be deleted. He tried to erase everything on the quiet (not knowing the relevant community standards) but both Human and I reversed him.
Thank you very much to all involved in 'retiring' me as per my request during a near mental break down of a week ago. I have just returned from a week in The Highlands climbing mountains and feal far more mentally stable. I would like to appolagise for creating such a fuss and really appreciate the time people put into replying to my whining. It is this kind of attitude that seperates RW from CP by a wide, wide gulf. I will now slump into quiet obscurity, learn by my mistakes and enjoy reading RW. Sincere thanks Susan, Bob, et al. RedDog 07:14, 12 July 2008 (EDT)
- Thanks for that Red Dog. Actually I was a bit concerned that we still hadn't done exactly what you had wanted, but if you're happy then that's great. Remember that you will be most welcome to return as Red Dog or any other identity should you decide to do so. --Bobbing up 08:22, 12 July 2008 (EDT)
Hey, SuzyG![edit]
Do you know where I can find a simple list of RW sysops? GenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 15:03, 4 July 2008 (EDT)

Awesome[edit]
Awesome, despite meaning:
- . Inspiring awe: an awesome thunderstorm.
- . Expressing awe: stood in awesome silence before the ancient ruins.
- . Slang. Remarkable; outstanding: “a totally awesome arcade game” (Los Angeles Times).
(answers.com)
is commonly used to denote that someone has done a good job (watered down third definition above?).
Conservapedia, uses the word to excess. There are 93 talk pages (main & user only) with the word on. Many of these have multiple uses.
RW is even worse, there are 184 talk/usertalk pages with this word on at least once.
Why has this word become so downgraded in its usage?
And what has replaced its original meaning?
ContribsTalk 17:09, 4 July 2008 (EDT)
- I think it still carries its original meaning (1 & 2). Context makes it clear if it's the slangier version (3), one would hope. What brought about this awesome commentary? ħuman 17:19, 4 July 2008 (EDT)

I am not sure how well my plan was thought through...[edit]
I recently uploaded Image:Conservative Deciet.PNG because things have a way of vanishing, but I have no clue where I should place it. I decided to ask a vetern editor for some halp with this because... I am epically confused right now. Javascap 22:01, 7 July 2008 (EDT)
