Overlap[edit]

Perhaps some overlap with our Conservapedia:Andyland article?--Bobbing up 16:17, 10 January 2009 (EST)

I'd thought of that, but the Andyland one is a bit more fantastical, and I quite like the ring of the title for this one. Perhaps the SROC is a breakaway from Andyland? --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 16:26, 10 January 2009 (EST)

Russian Language Version[edit]

Yeah, it's a bit much (it takes the whole Russian name joke a bit too far)...though, I like the direction it's going in, so I'll try to think of a way to work in something akin to it...hmmm......--Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 01:58, 12 January 2009 (EST)

more or less what I thought. Play nice. Toast s.png(with cheese)talk to Toast 02:22, 12 January 2009 (EST)
How about this (I suspect this would probably go over most people's heads, but food for thought) -- maybe set up the page the way you had it, but have the words in Cyrillic just letter for letter transcribing things like "Andrew Schlafly is a crazy man" (Андрев Щлафлы ис а цразы ман), except something actually funny, lol. (Was I not playing nice? :( ) --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 04:45, 12 January 2009 (EST)
You might find this useful. --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 04:49, 12 January 2009 (EST)
whoosh (ducks as Yossie's idea flies over head) :) Don't quite get it - sorry. I'm loving playing with this though - should be getting on with other things but it has me hooked. Think we've probably got enuff cyrilic, don't you. Over do it & the fun's swamped. Toast s.png(with cheese)talk to Toast 04:52, 12 January 2009 (EST)
Hahaha...yeah, we're good for pseudo Russian. I love your additions, incidentally. That's pretty much exactly what I was going for. --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 05:02, 12 January 2009 (EST)
The whole page now looks crap in IE with that TOPA addition. Redchuck.gif Генгисmarauding 05:21, 12 January 2009 (EST)
Ha! get firefocks! Does it? I'll remove it then! Shame. Toast s.png(with cheese)talk to Toast 05:26, 12 January 2009 (EST)

Better, I dropped the caps a bit which is more of an improvement. I think using images might be better. Redchuck.gif Генгисmarauding 06:54, 12 January 2009 (EST)
Did you look at my User page? Toast s.png(with cheese)talk to Toast 07:00, 12 January 2009 (EST)

TOPCAT[edit]

I was looking at the page & just had to put a paragraph beginning with "C" in. Toast s.png (with butter!) talk to Toast@~

Now Horrid[edit]

And silly. <sulk> Toast s.png (with butter!) talk to Toast 05:09, 13 January 2009 (EST)

Well change it back you grumpy ingrate. It appears to be your pet, so take more care of it and check it out in different browsers. Are you looking at it on an iPaq or a widescreen computer? The boxes did not align before and had acres of white space with the images on the left and the caption in the middle. Quite honestly it looked like something that would turn up on Conservapedia (apart from the brillinat artwork). Redchuck.gif Генгисmarauding 05:29, 13 January 2009 (EST)
</sulk>Is OK really, can't check with IE - linux mc & no IE browser. You know how some sites have banned Fox because of the existence of adblocker? Well I'd do that to IE for being μsofty if I could. Toast s.png (with butter!) talk to Toast 05:37, 13 January 2009 (EST)
I though Fox was banned for being Jewish?. Anyway, here's my side by side comparison of the two:

Ha! proves point:IE = KRAP. Long live liberated software of Glorious people's republic. Toast s.png (with butter!) talk to Toast 06:26, 13 January 2009 (EST)

I actually like Genghis's version. That being said, I think those images need to be better utilised. I was thinking of making an ad hoc "country template", for images and statistics and the like, sort of like the ones they have on WP. Thoughts? --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 12:15, 13 January 2009 (EST)
Nice idea, you'll need a flag as well. A spinning fiery cross in a white circle on a red background might look nice. Redchuck.gif Генгисmarauding 12:52, 13 January 2009 (EST)
Here's something I whipped up for discussion:

SROC flag.gif What do you think? Redchuck.gif Генгисmarauding 14:41, 13 January 2009 (EST)

Definitely going in the right direction...maybe make the cross yellow and remove the circle, just to make it jive with the Soviet theme, as opposed to a Nazi one. I'll mock up something myself soon, too. --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 14:54, 13 January 2009 (EST)

Cover Story[edit]

This should be reccommended as a Cover story. Any dissenters I must crush with an iron fist? POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!You paid the price for your lack of vision 16:01, 19 January 2009 (EST)

Not on-mission enough for cover... definitely should be Best of Conservapedia though. ħumanUser talk:Human 20:18, 19 January 2009 (EST)
Yeah, tain't cover material, but I'd be jazzed if it were in BoC. --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 00:22, 20 January 2009 (EST)

This isn't on mission enough to be cover, but RW5.jpg is? Theemperor

Link please? ħumanUser talk:Human 15:45, 20 January 2009 (EST)

It's randomly featured on the main page. I'm too lazy to improve ma wikiskillz to the point where I know how to link images, same thing with the sig. POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!You paid the price for your lack of vision 18:32, 20 January 2009 (EST) (4)

Well, whatever it is I can't even find it. I suspect it is in "best of fun", and ends up randomly in that little box at the very bottom. If this gets added to "best of CP", it will also randomly turn up in the section to the left of that one. The actual cover stories are here, if you're curious. ħumanUser talk:Human 18:45, 20 January 2009 (EST)
Oh, and it's here, I couldn't find it because of the capped "W". No big deal. Not only is it hilarious, it was uploaded by RobS... one of our friends from CP. ħumanUser talk:Human 18:48, 20 January 2009 (EST)

Yes, I know... "In Soviet Russia, Jesus prays to YOU!" RobS. So then this isn't hilarions? I've studied the October Revolution, and the comparison is,at least, lulzy POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!You paid the price for your lack of vision 18:52, 20 January 2009 (EST)

Yes, this is hilarious. But it's not "cover story" material - those articles get quoted on the main page. It's "best of CP" material - and will turn up in the list of three linked articles under the CP heading. Do you follow me? ħumanUser talk:Human 19:12, 20 January 2009 (EST)

Whoops! We both meant the same thing! when I said best of RW, I meant best of Fun. Sorry. POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!You paid the price for your lack of vision 19:17, 20 January 2009 (EST)

I've looked around & I can't find a "Nomination for 'Best of Amusement' " template. I'm a bit limited in my web access @ the moment (on pda) so perhaps someone else can find it & swap the cover story one out? Toast s.png (Crumpets) and butter 20:27, 20 January 2009 (EST)
I think we should just add it to the cat, it's good enough. Remove the cover story template; - and can we move it to the CP namespace, too? ħumanUser talk:Human 20:41, 20 January 2009 (EST)
Oops, wait, did we want to put it in best of CP or best of moosmint? ħumanUser talk:Human 20:42, 20 January 2009 (EST)

Added to 'musement. Should I add to Conservapedia, too?POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!You paid the price for your lack of vision 20:46, 20 January 2009 (EST)

The only problem with putting it in both is once in a while, it will turn up twice on the main page. If it weren't for that, I'd say both. Can you check the categories and work out the odds of it doubling up? ħumanUser talk:Human 21:28, 20 January 2009 (EST)

WARNING: ED POOR SHOULD NOT READ THE FOLLOWING SECTION. To begin with, including the article itself, there are 11 articles in the BOA cat. Since there are only 3 slots on the main page, the odds of it appearing are 1/11+1/10+1/9, or about 30% If it were inserted to BOC, then there would be 8 articles, meaning the probibility of 1/8+1/7+1/6, or about 43%. 43%x30%= approx 12.9 percent, soo it would appear in both about 13% of the time. POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!You paid the price for your lack of vision 21:41, 20 January 2009 (EST)

Awesome Ed Spoor warning :). 1/8 seems a bit high to risk. One idea though - putting it in the "smaller" cat (BoCP?) would raise its odds of appearing, if that's what we want. And, thanks for running the numbers for lazy me :) ħumanUser talk:Human 21:44, 20 January 2009 (EST)

oe (ö)[edit]

yu isn't bad for pronunciation. Thinking back 50+ years: - purse the lips as if about to whistle and say 'er' without the 'r' but with a bit of an 'oo' included. There's probably somewhere on t'net where you can get audio. ToastToastand marmite 01:55, 25 February 2009 (EST)

Excellent! That's exactly what I was doing, hehe. I'm an amateur linguist in my spare time, and have been trying to learn how to pronounce all the letters in the IPA--I also used to help my friend study German, so I learned how to pronounce it quite well, if not actually understand it...What I'm curious about is how Teacake himself pronounces it, since I doubt he keeps up with his ancestry that vehemently--but that's mostly just idle curiosity. --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 02:07, 25 February 2009 (EST)
It's quite possibly from the Yiddish. Is he of teh chosen? I suspect not. 02:22, 25 February 2009 (EST)
Ö (o-umlaut) // No English equivalent sound (see below); somewhat similar to vowel in 'jerk' (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/German:Alphabet) That's all she wrote. ToastToastand marmite 02:29, 25 February 2009 (EST)
He probably pronounces it like the long o in "toe" or something. It's like how some people of Polish ancestry in English speaking countries pronounce the Ws in their names like English /w/ instead of Polish /v/. --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 03:01, 25 February 2009 (EST)

Where do people get the paternal names for the other sysops?[edit]

I know where Andrey's paternal name (Spawn of John, so Ivanovich), but where can I find the others or are most of them simply ad-hoc? Thieh 15:35, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

They're all Yossarian's so you'd need to ask him. I suspect they just sounded nice! ToastToastand marmite
Whelp, some of them are plays on old communist politicos, and others are just jokes. TK's is the same as Stalin's patronymic; Ken's is a reference to Trofim Lysenko, the infamous Soviet "biologist"; Ed's is a play on his "Smeg Ed" nickname ; Karajou is simply Khrushchev's name; Bugler's makes reference to his attempt to pass himself off as "Brian Ugler"; and RJJensen's is presumably just an I because Russian has no direct equivalent of J (someone else added that one). PJR's is just his first name (the P and the J were reversed because it had a better ring to it). --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 19:08, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Can someone check that the formatting of the T in 'The Stalinist...' is correct - as it appears to differ from the other header capitals on the computer I am using. Anna Livia (talk) 16:44, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
