PST or EST?[edit]
Just a casual note for whoever may be concerned - The notice at the top says "Elections for moderator will open at 7 pm PST, June 29th.", however this edit says 7PM EST. VOXHUMANA 08:06, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- Where does it say PST? Peter Urist for Mod! 08:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know how to link to it, but it's the banner at the top. Here's a C&P:
Moderator Elections Elections for moderator will open at 7 pm PST, June 29th. Please see our election booth to vote. from Tmtoulouse (Talk), group Site wide (urgent) at 14:46, 29 June 2012

When does this fucking thing open?[edit]
I want to vote against Godot, Blue, Sterile and that stupid fucker from En Zed. kthnxbai --MtDPrematurely Indeterminate 14:41, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hmmm. Whate'er. Get out the
votegoat! sterileno new information 18:10, 29 June 2012 (UTC)- Actually you can't really vote "against" people. The most negative thing you can do is just not vote for them.--Bonny (talk) 20:38, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- That's not precisely true (although it is true for all practical purposes). If you cast votes for all 21 candidates, and if (as in *IF*) the raw data gets released, then giving someone a very low rank can have some minor symbolic value. It will have zero impact on the voting, as it is impossible to get past to the 15th preference round and not have the first seven stabilized. VOXHUMANA 22:56, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- Why would giving somebody a low rank have greater "minor symbolic value" than ignoring them completely and not voting for them at all?--Bonny (talk) 07:19, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Because in a non-weighted average preference ranking, a zero vote has no impact, whereas a low ranking vote does. See my talk page for the analysis thus far. In Jan 2012, had there been a preferential voting system rather than an STV, the results would have been quite different. (It's just a talking point, obviously.) VOXHUMANA 07:44, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

- Symbolic value for who? The raw data looks like this. Nobody is going to analyse it in that much detail after results have been calculated. ŴêâŝêîôîďMethinks it is a Weasel 00:51, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm a professional data analyst, so that would take me less that a few minutes to bang into coherent shape. For my own amusement I'll be doing it as soon as the raw data is released. Average ranking per candidate, that sort of thing. I think people might find it interesting, and even if not, it's no less pointless than a lot of other stuff I do. VOXHUMANA 00:59, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Looking forward to it. I'm sure it will be much better than the ramshackle analysis I did using an Excel spreadsheet after the first mod election. DickTurpis (talk) 03:05, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Open. Tmtoulouse (talk) 03:35, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Just voted. I understand that this is a standard STV system using preferential rankings. Having conducted a few of these ballots by hand, many versions of this system require the elector to allocate a minimum number of preferences (eg: it can be half+1 of the positions vacant or all the vacancies) for his or her vote to be formal. Given the small number of electors and the ability to vote for as few as one candidate, I presume that filling the last 1 or 2 positions will essentially be a pretty random process? (Well pseudo-random), that is the preferences will scatter with no clear trends? --MtDPrematurely Indeterminate 01:17, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
