Do we need this?[edit]

We have a Reddit page already. This seems like a fairly tiny community that should just be grouped underneath that page. Techpriest (talk) 00:08, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Actually, I would suggest having a broader page on detransitioning (and the onslaught of misinformation and the lack of actual information), and merging /r/detrans with said page. Might be better, considering how detransition-related communities tend to be TERF breeding grounds. Celeste (scream at) 01:20, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
I agree, there is terrifying amount of misinformation, distort, transphobia and propaganda in detransition spaces. I'm tired of hearing all these stupid arguments every day. It would be good to have at least this place where all the bullshit flying over detrans spaces are debunked. I started the page Detransition. Bhp99 (talk) 08:46, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
I agree with there needing to be a page on this. I moved the article to Draft:Detransition though. It's just RW policy, don't worry—the rationale (badumsh) is that it's best to have a fully-cooked public article than something still needing work. Kntai (talk) 09:23, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
I don't have enough time to complete the Draft:Detransition article, also I'm transgender too and I don't want to access all the potentially triggering material that negatively influence me. Can other people join the work? Bhp99 (talk) 15:54, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
We are a pretty small community. If you can’t finish a work yourself, then it will probably never be finished. Witness all the other works languishing in draft space. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 18:45, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
Do you mean that I can look at other draft pages in order to get an idea of what should I do? I'm not purposely exposing myself to transphobic content, because for me reading shit this is like seeing Goatse. And that's because... ya know. Bhp99 (talk) 19:17, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
If you want to look at other drafts, this page has a complete list. There’s a lot.
I don’t think this deserves its own article, it would be better to focus on draft:detransition and give the subreddit a mention. Christopher (talk) 19:22, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Completely agree. Also, if the user writing this page is unwilling to actually read content necessary to write this page, then I suggest they choose another topic to write about. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 20:39, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Also, there's a huge list of drafts because hardly anybody ever finishes drafts. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 20:44, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

I will once again iterate "do we need this"[edit]

The subreddit doesn't even meet our criteria to be mentioned on our page on Reddit. It has only 23k subscribers. Our barrier for mention on reddit is 100k subscribers. I feel this belongs more as a subsection on the page for detransitioning (which this page redlinks to since that's still in draft). -- Techpriest (talk) 16:58, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

I don't think we need individual pages for obscure reddit boards. I recommend merging this into the detrans draft as Techpriest suggests.
And for Bob's sake, archive all the reddit links as they are fragile and may go away without notice. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 17:23, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Seems like it could be part of the detransition page itself really. I'm not sure what else to add to that page though, after you get past what detransition is and how its occurrence is quite low, all that's left is pointing out that it is often used as a concern troll to prevent trans people getting adequate medical care and to instil doubt in transgender identity at all. "But there is a very small minority of people who experience side-effects as a result of taking a vaccine! We should stop using vaccines!" BumblingBuffoon (talk) 17:26, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
I'm in favor of deleting this article for a reason similar to Wikipedia:Deny recognition: they don't deserve the notability that comes with having a RationalWiki article about them. Singling them out by having an article on them at all (stating obvious truths that any RW reader could infer anyway) would just give them the notoriety they crave. It's denying such communities publicity that makes them wither and die. - Linneris (talk) 17:40, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
By that logic, wouldn't giving the subreddit a subsection in Draft:Detransition still give notoriety? Anyways, I agree that the two drafts should be merged. A larger subreddit like /r/NoFap (with 905k members) would deserve an article (and it does have one here), but one with only 23.4k members is too small. LongStylus (talk) 21:43, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
I'm not opposed to give articles to subreddits in concept, but in practice, this subreddit isn't worth much comment beyond "concern trollish subreddit that solicits terrible advice". Maybe if you want to rant about it, make an essay about it. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 00:12, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
