Condensed-matter physics[edit]
Hello! That was a nice edit. (I do not think of that subject often, admittedly, because I have no intentions of specializing in it. I prefer gravitational and nuclear physics.) You are right. It is the largest and most active branch of physics today. But condensed-matter physics goes back to the twentieth century, if I am not mistaken. If you have time, please write some more about it. In fact, most of the theory of the Standard Model (quantum chromodynamics, Higgs mechanism, electroweak theory, Gell-Mann's work, etc.) was done in the 60's and 70's. The Standard Model is a relativistic quantum field theory after all. On the experimental side, most of the particles predicted by the Standard Model were also discovered in the twentieth century. - I originally grouped them under the banner of Quantum Mechanics. Gravitation goes back to Newton, so I left it in the section of Mechanics and Optics and then Special and General Relativity.
