Edge of Evolution article[edit]

Bob, I like what you did on this. My only suggestion is that it might be formatted in a similar fashion to some of jtl's side by side articles. It's not important but could give a standard look to RW refutations. God's peed Babel fishÅЯ†ђŮŖ ÐΣй†Now look here! 11:51, 21 June 2007 (CDT)

I'd love to Arthur, only problem is I didn't create the thing, I only made a few edits using the existing format there, and I'm not sure how to edit it as you suggest. (I'm a bit of a wiki dunce) :-( --Bob_M (talk) 11:59, 21 June 2007 (CDT)

Smart chap[edit]

Judging by your contributions I'm afraid that that you are a 'SC' - I've just managed to diletanterise about for years without gaining any wisdom. The real reason I'm here; found this at OED:

Welsh Wonder – Ryhfeddod Cymraeg Do you speak Cymraeg, or are you just trying to dysgu the language? What ever your needs may be, the Geiriadur Cymraeg Cyfoes is a must have. OUP publishes the Modern Welsh Dictionary (Geiriadur Cymraeg Cyfoes) this month, a dictionary for all Welsh (Cymraeg) speakers, or students trying to learn (dysgu) the language. Illustrated with examples drawn from real speech and writing, the Geiriadur Cymraeg Cyfoes is for the growing number of Welsh speakers in all walks of life, from school to the office. Human might be interested too. Nosdar! (whatever) RojerB-KtF! 07:25, 19 July 2007 (CDT)

I hope that "SC" is the "Smart Chat" in the heading and not "Silly Cxxt". If it's the first I thank you for the complement, though there are many who would disagree vehemently. If the second - well you might get more agreement.  :-) Actually my Welsh isn't that good - though perhaps marginally better than yours.  :-) "Nos da" is good night - I rather suspect you wanted to say "Pnawn Da" - Good afternoon. I don't know that Human would be that interested in Welsh, but you could ask him. I'm more interested with fighting with Spanish at the moment. Do you speak any languages apart from Yourkie? --Bob_M (talk) 08:21, 19 July 2007 (CDT)

Eh? Now you have Canadian as well! humanbe in 01:48, 21 July 2007 (CDT)
Maybe I should count Yorkshireish and Canadian as .5 of a language? And should single words count? Still that's sort of like six languages. Wow! As you can see, I am a simple soul who is easily pleased.--Bob_M (talk) 04:28, 21 July 2007 (CDT)

Your second amendment article[edit]

You are distorting very much the truth of the matter. Please do more research. HeartGoldShow me your intolerance 02:24, 29 July 2007 (CDT)

I have quote quoted the second amendment which talks about militias. You only wanted to quote part of it.--Bob_M (talk) 02:26, 29 July 2007 (CDT)
It is you who are quote mining. The first ten amendments are part of the "Bill of rights". The second amendment enumerates one right, and a rational basis for it. HeartGoldShow me your intolerance 02:44, 29 July 2007 (CDT)
To avoid confusion, perhaps we could continue of the article's talk page where we seem to be having more-or-less the same discussion.--Bob_M (talk) 03:21, 29 July 2007 (CDT)

Don't feed the Troll
Don't block for ideologic reasons please...as much as I think youre a conspiracy minded loon and a bigot, i haven't blocked you lately.User:PalMD
PalMD, I hated to do it, but nobody else seems to be monitoring the behavior. No citations to back up the POV pushing in the article. Just applying standards. It was only for a minute anyway. HeartGoldShow me your intolerance 14:14, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
Your block was for calling you a troll and not for POV pushing. Stop wriggling. you should not by a sysop.--Bob_M (talk) 14:16, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
You're right. I should have also blocked you for POV pushing, but I don't think that is frowned upon at RW. HeartGoldShow me your intolerance 14:25, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
We are NOT NPOV here. We are SPOV (skeptical point of view). We also strive to be a community with little prejudice, unless you count doubting others beliefs as prejudice. If I were to say "I dislike you for being a Christian" I should receive the sanction of the community. If I say "the idea of religion, including Christianity, is silly" I should probably not call undo scrutiny onto myself. User:PalMD
I have made a formal complaint here RationalWiki:Administrative Abuse--Bob_M (talk) 14:39, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
PalMD, where have I said that I disliked (I assume) Kels? I actually do like Kels. I assume you mean kels with regard to the prejudice stalk. Regarding skepticism, we are for scientific, well cited skepticism, not fly by the seat of your pants arguments from ignorance. HeartGoldShow me your intolerance 14:37, 31 July 2007 (CDT)

P O L I C Y ?[edit]

Bob: Is there somewhere in RW that one could make a suggestion for a policy statement? What I've got in mind is:

As wandals, trolls, etc are basically attention seekers they should never be fed. Merely knowing that they've caused a little stir will be justification enough for them to repeat. So "revert & ignore" would seem to be a good rule of thumb.

Or does this already exist? Am I just restating existing policy? Keepit under your hat! 09:29, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

Hi, we talked about this at the beginning, but it didn't make it to being a formal guideline. Today, I proposed that we look at this again. See here: RationalWiki talk:Community Standards. You might want to add your suggestion there. There is a previous one from TM in the archived page though - can you see it on your PDA?--Bob_M (talk) 09:34, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

I can view most things - unicode (non-ascii) comes through as little boxes (there's a song in there somewhere). Trouble is I can't edit files over about 28kb unfortunately RationalWiki talk:Community Standards is 34 ish. Could you copy/paste above (thanks for removing indent btw) below your trolling note?

Cheers. (it's warm but muggy here) Keepgerbils(in a cage)! 09:54, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

Ok, I've copied and pasted your note. It should help to stimulate some debate on the issue. Cheers. --Bob_M (talk) 10:01, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

Public notice[edit]

Hello, Bob M, I have seen your remarkable wandalism contributions to this site lately, and I am impressed. Please consider yourself, if you like, on the line for demotion to "sysop" (janitor). Thank you for your endless toil in "our" cause. humanbe in 21:24, 3 August 2007 (CDT)

Don't know what to say. Can't say that handing out blocks appeals to me much - but there doesn't seem to be a lot of that going on anyway. Also I make no claim to technical expertise - so I'm not sure what I'd contribute. Still if this demotion is thrust into my sweating hands I won't object.--Bob_M (talk) 03:49, 4 August 2007 (CDT)

All this caegorising, I know it's required but the way you go at it! I'll bet all your dvds/ cds are in alpha order! It must be a man thing - Martin from Totnes is at it too.

My CDs are in a right old clutter, I can't find my Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye CDs anywhere (eek!) or Richard Youngs's Advent which I only played a few weeks back :( Totnesmartin 09:39, 6 August 2007 (CDT)

Must say that I got a bit obsessed with the categorizing thing. :-) I'm giving it a break at the moment. Shame I didn't take a note of how many there were to start with. Yes, I saw that he's working on them too. Don't know if I'll get back to "real" articles or work on the red links some more. My status is unchanged. .-)--Bob_M (talk) 09:35, 6 August 2007 (CDT)

Categorizing[edit]

I must say, I am impressed overall with your efforts to organize the site! I shall try to remember the cats you used or look them up to minimize future work if I ever write another "article". Great work! humanbe in 19:23, 6 August 2007 (CDT)

Thanks - though others have been working on it as well. The list of Uncategorizedpages is down to around 60 now - from several hundred before. I think that many of the remaining ones may be candidates for deletion or ACD.--Bob_M (talk) 05:29, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

Great. Yes, we've zapped all of them. :-) I'm just having another look at the uncat pages to see what else can be sorted. I think some should be deleted or go ACD. Next thing should really be to review the cats themselves - though you and Totnesmartin seem to have started on something like that.--Bob_M (talk) 05:56, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

I want to create a push to get as thorough coverage as possible for two new categories the first is Category:Best of RationalWiki and the second is Category:Almost the best of RationalWiki. Both categories should tell you what belongs in each. If you could take some time to go through the article space and the essay space and label these with the corresponding categories it would be very helpful.
