User talk:Human/sysopnom

From RationalWiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This page is an experiment. It is a place for people to discuss potential demotion to sysop of regular editors.

If three sysops agree (and none disagree) with a nomination for demotion of an editor, I will do it.

Sysop nominations and discussion should end up, summarized, here.

To start a discussion, create a new section with the editor's user name as the topic, and state your case. Thanks!

Spica[edit]

How about demoting Spica to sysop? He's been involved a long time. He looks capable and loyal. Proxima Centauri 15:19, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

I may not be very pronounced here but checking his contributions he is only active around once every five days. Lyra (ميصتنسثه) 15:33, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
All the better. We needs sysops who, you know, have a life.PFoster 15:37, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
I thought that phrase stopped having any meaning after you, you know, crossed the 40-ish threshold. But why send someone who has a life to do the job of someone who doesn't? Lyra (ميصتنسثه) 15:42, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

I personally see no reason for that, it's not like it costs us money/resources/content/anything at all to have sysops. Pinto's5150 Talk 18:03, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
Why not start a new turdblossom page where we can discuss that, RA? humanUser talk:Human 19:09, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

I've got nothing against Spica, and would have no objection if he'd volunteered for janitor duties himself (herself?) but I am not completely comfortable with the proposal being made by someone with the user name of another star. Jollyfish.gifGenghismarauding 18:20, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
I'll second the nomination if it helps. Lyra (qed) 18:23, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
Isn't there a stigma associated with asking for demotion yourself? --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 18:25, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
Well another bloody astronomical user name would really get me suspicious. There have been several instances of people being demoted just by asking for it (and a few high profile ones who haven't). I'm not voting against, Spica but I'm not comfortable with the process. Jollyfish.gifGenghismarauding 18:56, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Consensus report[edit]

(This section is just for me, the power-mad admin - human)
So far, I see five current, active sysops voting "for" and no real dissent - certainly no "no" votes or serious reasons not to. Per the one obvious condition I listed at the top of the page, I will be demoting the little hiver bastid shortly. I'd wait another 24-48 hours for more comment, but I think it would be speshul to have it happen on the anniversary of the NotKB. Feel free to continue commenting and if the tides shift badly for the glowing gas bag I can always take back his mop and bucket. humanUser talk:Human 19:07, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Thank You![edit]

Thank you, everyone! My Sysopric was completely unexpected! I'd like to thank my parents, my backroom team (you know who you are!), my lawyers and all the Hivers in the Federation for their support! Seriously, RPG/Hiver hat off for a moment, this was unexpected and I am appreciative. With regards to having two RW users with astronomical names - yeah, I can see it looks *well dodgy* but I can assure you that ProxCent and Spica are NOT one and the same person. I don't maintain any sox-orz on RW (cos I have no need to) and always sign in here as Spica. Spica the Hiver If you tolerate this, then your children will be next... 16:17, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

Others[edit]

We have quite a few serious editors here who have never been sysopped. Since we have a much closer-knit community than WP or CP, it's my opinion that a sysop here should be anyone who's been accepted amongst the community. Also, there should be more synonyms for the word community :(
Anyway, I hereby nominate the following:

  • Editor at CP
  • Bob M
  • PoorEd
  • Eira
  • Kektkliktkckstick (to lure him to the dark side!)

Those are just off the top of my head, so I've probably missed a couple. What do you/everyone think? <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Hysterical and useless 14:20, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

Bob M already is a sysop. humanUser talk:Human 14:44, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

He wasn't for a while when he was away - so when you joined, for example, he wasn't, I think. humanUser talk:Human 14:58, 17 May 2008 (EDT)
What about the others? They all have pretty signatures and miles of edit history. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Hysterical and useless 14:59, 17 May 2008 (EDT)
Editor at CP is a Sysop now. No pretty signature though. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 06:10, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Eira[edit]

I know it's rather fresh from Spica's demotion, but I'd like to second 85 25 121 81's recommendation and put her on the table, literally and figuratively. Lyra § talk 22:31, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

User:Triple X[edit]

I wish to nominate User:Triple X for demotion to sysop. Why? Because apparently around here, newbies who mostly vandalize can get demoted to sysop almost immediately while serious long-time contributors are made to feel as if their contributions are not wanted and never considered for anything which might make them feel more a part of the community. Triple X seems to fit the bill perfectly for what you want in a sysop.

He is also far more rational than about 90% of the users here, who seem to be more interested in left-progressive fundamentalism than in anything rational. PapaThermodyne 14:12, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

PapaThermodyne, it would help if you had a history of positive edits here before nominating another new user for sysop. Otherwise it just looks like you are a sock of the editor you are nominating. We have a liberal policy here to demoting sysops, however, it does help to have some sort of mission track record rather a series of junk computing articles. Jollyfish.gifGenghismarauding 15:05, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

It is also to be noted that 3 million votes for and one against would not in any way assure sysophood, especially for someone who had demonstrated their lack of sympathy with the site. SusanG  ContribsTalk 22:54, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

            • Speaking of which I have been doing a lot of back study on the Burgess Shale fossils, I am working on trying to get the ROM to let me into their collection. I have become particularly enamored with wp:Anomalocaris and wp:Hallucigenia because they present wonderful little stories for how true science works. If you look at early renditions of the Cambrian explosion you will see some primitive jelly fish floating around. It turns out that those jelly fish were actually constructed from fossils of Anomalcaris' mouth. Hallucigenia is an equally interesting tale, but will have to await my attempt at actually writing an article about. tmtoulouse provoke 02:32, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Secret Squirrel (self-nom)[edit]

This is a test. This is only a test. Want to see if this is for real or not:

"Er, have we ever once denied sysop status to an established user that asked for it? tmtoulouse" "We do have a requirement for being a sysops and that is that a user is known to be "mostly harmless." If they can not meet that most basic of criteria than I have no problem not demoting them. tmtoulouse"

Somehow I suspect this is just more self-righteous hypocrisy and bullshit but maybe I'm wrong. We'll see how this vote goes. Have at it. Secret Squirrel 09:35, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

You have it wrong. The one and only requirement was that the user must not ask for sysopship him/herself. That would exclude you. The only exception is yours truly, based on a technicality (it wasn't a direct request). On the other hand, rules are made to be broken... I'm just a fake Editor at CP. I took this username as I know how valued and considered CP users are here. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 10:09, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
