User talk:Kektklik/ArchDuke
Question... Would it be okay to create some GSA-related user boxes on Cp, or would I get blocked?
- You get blocked for unauthorised templates these days, because TK has run out of good block reasons and if he doesn't keep his daily block numbers up he can't get anything else up. - π 01:41, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- That's good to know. I'll be making sure that I keep all my questionable templates in my Sandbox. Ke
klik- Unfortunately they are not above editing and deleting user space any more either. All wiki conventions have been thrown out the window. People blame TK but I always put it at the time when Andy started that talk page with the message at the top saying unsubstantial comments will be removed. The moment you break one unwritten rules, such as talkpage comments are not to be tampered with, you might as well run rough shot over them all. - π 01:52, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, *finds some personal information to remove*. Can I still count on other sysops to unblock me? Like how it was in the past? Ke
klik 02:02, 29 June 2009 (UTC)- You are kidding, right? - π 02:09, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- TerryH might be okay. Or what about the few people with block rights? Ke
klik 02:13, 29 June 2009 (UTC)- Those with block rights and nothing else should only use their blocking rights for vandalism, at least to my recollection. Aboriginal Noise What the hell is that thing? 02:16, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- And unblocking mistaken blocks.. like the ones I've received in that past. >.> Ke
klik 02:18, 29 June 2009 (UTC)- (EC)People with block rights are threatened constantly by the senior admins. If you read the rules TK put in, they may block but can't reverse a proper admins blocks. There is almost no discussion now, even in private ;), and each admin is a rouge agent who blocks without question and may not be challenged, even by other admins. Unless it is someone who TK has deemed a junior admin and he then can challenge them as much as he likes. TerryH is he even there any more? - π 02:19, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- I've seen him around. As far as unblocking mistaken blocks, I unblocked a whole slew of users in the MikeSalter incident. That was more vandalism in nature, though. Aboriginal Noise What the hell is that thing? 02:23, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

RPG Words[edit]
Though I love FFXII, be careful what words you pick up from it (especially Fran's pronunciation). What am I saying? You're a smarty, you'll figure it out. Hmm, I guess this makes this post useless then. Ah well, in for a penny. --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 00:13, 26 May 2008 (EDT)
- Anathema, the occuria speak. =-= Candlewick 00:29, 26 May 2008 (EDT)
- It's not so much the "occuria"-type words, but the "mar-KWIS" and "manufacted" type words that sounds like the almost might be real. Now, admittedly, I love made up words and mispronunciations, but in the right context, of course. And I'm not sure if you're comparing RWians to the occuria, but I don't think that's really a favorable comparison ;-) --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 01:16, 26 May 2008 (EDT)
- No, I was saying you are my "anathema" (which is not a made up word). "Marquis" is a real word too, ya know. However, "Necrohol" isn't real... which made me upset. =-= Candlewick 08:41, 26 May 2008 (EDT)
- "Marquis" is real, but typically pronounced "mar-KEE." "Necrohol" is definitely one of the more inventive used. Its etymology (necro-/death) makes it pretty clear what it's supposed to mean, that's why it sounds so convincing. Sorry, I'm a word nut - my geeking out stops now, I promise :-) --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 09:21, 26 May 2008 (EDT)

- Nope. 'Tis fine. Mar-kwis sounds cooler though. Is cooler a word? I'm guessing it is because cool is one syllable. I'm a geek. I spent my last two years in high school in Academic Quiz Bowl, Junior Varsity and Varsity--"1st Master of Random Mathematics and Science Knowledge". Contact request[edit]
I know a few of you out there are watching my page. I request that if anyone brings up a question directed at me from another talk page, that someone could post the link in this section. I will become infrequent, both here and on CP, in the next few days. The reason, I have too many nicknames to search for here... I can barely remember them all. Thank you for your cooperation. =-= Candlewick 19:40, 28 May 2008 (EDT)
- Are you getting a life? Whoo-hoo!!! By the way, no one can remember how to spell your user name in order to come here and let you know! Hence the plethora of nicknames... I'll try to remember your request, though. ħuman 19:58, 28 May 2008 (EDT)

Hi, Kettlelick - while you were away, a long discussion (now memory-holed) re: YOU happened on the WIGO page. I've reproduced it here for you to contemplate.... PFoster 13:26, 7 June 2008 (EDT)
Don't do it![edit]
- Kettlelick, a word of advice: your REALLY need to stop talking about your relationships in general, and THIS ONE in specific on online forums. Your girlfriend is family to someone that many people who come here consider to be an ideological enemy. While I'm pretty certain that the regulars here would never do anything that would embarrass you, and more importantly HER, you have no idea who else is reading this and how what you write here could come back and bite you in the ass. Read what people say about Mr. Schlafly on this site - go poking around in the edit histories for really nasty, unfounded cracks at him....do you think the people who do that sort of thing wouldn't be thrilled to use your relationship with this girl to score a cheap point? Science fail (from your CP user page)[edit]
I admit I'm not participating in the boycott :-).
Anyways, I see you're in a minor tiff with Ed. Good for you. I also notice that, on your user page, you make this argument against evolution - "God created the universe in 168 hours (including the 24 hours of rest). End of discussion. If you disagree, then you are doubting God's power."
There's a lot wrong with that argument. Namely, the question of evolution v. creation doesn't go to what God can do. At most, it goes to what God did do. From the perspective of a theistic evolutionist, God can do a lot, but that doesn't mean he has to do everything he can. God could destroy the entire Earth at any minute - but he hasn't recently. Do you doubt God's power? From a benevolent example, God could stop anything bad from happening, ever. But he doesn't. Do you doubt God's power? *I* could rob the next person I pass on the streets. But I don't. Do you doubt *my* power? God could have created the Earth in one day, or in one instant. But he didn't. Do you doubt God's power?
To frame the question as one of divine authority is to miss the point of what science is about - not theology, but empiricism. What God or Man can do doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what they do do, or did do.
I've heard this argument from Andy, so no doubt that's where you got it. But as I'm sure you can see, it's one of the worst arguments for creationism, ever.-caius (ninja) 10:25, 9 August 2008 (EDT)
- No, didn't get it from Andy. As I've said before, I rarely talk to him... anything more than a "How are you?" ... "Good" is extremely rare. I was just randomly thinking about it, maybe because of one of "The Simpsons" episodes, and blahblahblah.
- I never brought up the argument of evolution and creation... but if you insist.
- God created science. Is that enough for argument? Room for improvement is how I view evolution... only minor adaptations can be made. Insects and virii strengthen themselves against their "cures" each year. Chinese citizens might do the same due to all the pollution, but who knows.
- Whatever, is what I say. I don't like arguments, except with Ed--because I just don't like him for some odd reason. Enjoi! =.= Candlewick 22:23, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
- Kek, you're a smart dude, so I'm hoping to appeal to that side of you. "God created science," of course, presupposes God... but let's get past that for a second, and onto the main point. Sure, God created science. God created reason, granted for the sake of argument. If science & reason point against creationism... then, blind adherence to God, despite the pointers He's given you through science? The macro-evolution and micro-evolution distinction without a difference seems to be what you're hung up on, but are you willing to extrapolate the micro-changes over a long time scale, until they inevitably become macro- evolution, or do you dispute the time scale, and suggest a young earth, too, despite all evidence to the contrary?
- We don't have to argue, we can just discuss :-) -caius (ninja) 22:59, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
- I'm not one for discussion either, haha. People have more background and knowledge on the important subjects than I can ever have. I do not have enough drive to bother to look up such information either. I just go along through life learning random and somewhat useless stuff, and memorizing it for some weird reason.
- True, I agree that I am smart, but my problem is I don't do homework/research. I skim articles and see if I agree with them. I guess, in RW's pov, that reading/agreeing with CP's Young Earth article doesn't help me. =.= Candlewick 23:08, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
- I could suggest a book you'd like: Your Inner Fish, Neil Shubin, is a good start. Certainly creationism has a certain passing intellectual appeal - it resolves everything neatly, without much need for any further introspection - but that's hardly a satisfying end. Don't doubt your ability to weigh the information - all of it - and come to a conclusion just the same as thoe with "more background and knowledge." But if your knowledge only extends to CP's YEC article... you're getting the wrong stuff :-)-caius (ninja) 23:15, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Kettle of fish, it's hard, it really is. Especially when you are young and have few. And when you're old and have many, it still sucks. I'm not really sure this place is a good one to work out your personal tribulations, considering all the agendas involved. What I would say is, you don't "forget" them - they are the richness of your life. But if you are struggling with a painful personal process, turn to your "real life" friends, not a bunch of idiots like us on the internet. I don't know if I am reading too much into this (I might be), but you have a lot of time ahead of you - and discussing your difficulties in the present with your trusted (IRL) friends also adds tot he quality of those relationships as time goes by. That said, my friend, I hope your quest is answered. ħuman 00:43, 16 September 2008 (EDT)

Andy 101[edit]
So some of us are curious about Andy's classes. Now, didn't you say you were enrolling this semester? Can you fill us in? Enquiring minds want to know! DickTurpis 00:32, 18 September 2008 (EDT)
- I wanted to enroll, but there was a new rule he made up. This new rule states that college students can't even be in the parking lot... I don't know the consequences, but I would very much like to save face.
- You already know that Andy isn't the only teacher, there are also TAs. The TA position was assigned so Andy could go on a few business trips and not have to cancel class.
- Umm, I think that's it. I don't know everyone in the class, and I don't know how the class is going--I only get little updates here and there from Ke
klik 09:13, 18 September 2008 (EDT)- Andy made up a new rule? Wow, that's most unlike him. ГенгисIs the Pope a Catholic? 09:26, 18 September 2008 (EDT)
- It's because some of the "annoying students" were planning on visiting the class.. meaning no pay for Andy. He can't make exceptions, it would be unfair. Ke
klik 09:32, 18 September 2008 (EDT)- Thanks for filling us in. This is interesting. Are these TA's adults? Do you know anything about them? Based on who Andy puts in charge of CP, I'd hate to think of who he'd give a TA position to, but then again, being taught by anyone other than Andy is probably beneficial. And who are the "annoying students"? Ex-students of his, or students from the area? And this rule applies only to college students specifically, or people of that age in general? What if one of his students is getting dropped off at class by an older sibling, who happens to be in college? That seems like a strange rule. If he didn't want people in the class for free he could easily have a no audit rule; he wouldn't need to ban people from the parking lot. What are they going to do, peek through the windows in an effort to learn for free? DickTurpis 10:13, 18 September 2008 (EDT)
- cp:American History Teacher List. One or two students are swapped out for another who is a "Comatose" user.
- College-age students (specifically his former students) may not park in the lot for the sole purpose of seeing a friend or visiting the class.
- He's more about making sure there aren't any distractions from his teaching. Teachers want their students to learn, no?
- Ke
klik 10:21, 18 September 2008 (EDT)- Is that list actually the TA list? Wow. SharonS is a bit young to be teaching, no? I bet she's a decent enough student, but, well, come to think of it, she'd probably a better teacher than Andy. Pakhyongshin I really think is a parodist, and JBoley openly contradicted Andy on his Lief Ericson idiocy, and got blocked for a month, so I really doubt he's anything more than a name on a page. So is Sharon the TA, and does she actually teach the full class when Andy's away on "business"? Also, I can see how he wouldn't want distractions, but it would seem banning them from the room should do the trick. What's the harm in a friend picking meeting one of his students outside after class to go get a soda pop or go rolling skating or whatever it is his students do to stay out of trouble? Especially since that rule bars you from taking the class, and deprives him of another $250 to line his already flush pockets. And since when are any of hsi students "annoying"? I thought they were all brilliant little Christian angels. DickTurpis 10:36, 18 September 2008 (EDT)
- Well, some of those college students may have been contaminated by uncomfortable liberal facts once they got into the big wide world and Andy doesn't want them distracting his poopils with reality. After all, one of the biggest influences on youngsters is peer-group pressure, so some cocky college guy mocking the young uns - ("You don't still believe all that cretinism stuff do you, that's kid's stuff!" - probably has more effect than his nasal indoctrination. ГенгисIs the Pope a Catholic? 10:47, 18 September 2008 (EDT)
- SharonS and a "friend" taught cp:American History Lecture Two. I told you to switch one or two of the users on that list for another person (aka "friend").
- Annoying = those who didn't care about his class.
- He only bars people who aren't paying for the class--the parents are technically paying. I couldn't find a job over the summer, so I have no way to pay for the class. I'm taking 18 credits at my college, so it's not like I have time anyway.
- Ke
klik 13:45, 18 September 2008 (EDT)- Well, that makes some sense. Just as well, really. Taking Andy's class is a counterproductive enough way to get an "education", paying for it sounds almost criminal. Anyway, good to hear there are people who didn't care about his class. There is hope for the world yet. DickTurpis 13:51, 18 September 2008 (EDT)

- Thanks for filling us in.
- It's because some of the "annoying students" were planning on visiting the class.. meaning no pay for Andy. He can't make exceptions, it would be unfair. Ke
- Andy made up a new rule? Wow, that's most unlike him. ГенгисIs the Pope a Catholic? 09:26, 18 September 2008 (EDT)
