So, how's Portmeirion these days? Totnesmartin (talk) 14:33, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello Totnesmartin,
Assuming your reference isn't a RW hazing/in-joke that I'll learn more about in the days to come, sorry but I haven't the foggiest as to what you mean! --NotANumber (talk) 14:44, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
You know...Patrick McGoohan... number six... all that! Totnesmartin (talk) 14:48, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Aha! Insight. I've heard of the show but it's before my time. My name comes from the fact that MATLAB throws out NaN as the answer to my calculations on an annoyingly regular basis. --NotANumber (talk) 14:53, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Section edit[edit]

Please click the section edit buttons when editing talk pages - it helps to avoid edit conflicts, and the summary will be automatically filled with the section name and a link to that section, which helps when you're looking at recent changes (I see you tried inserting == Section name == into an edit summary - you can do it manually, but it's /* Section name */) -- Nx / talk 20:58, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Nx, that's much more convenient! Sorry for all the newbie mistakes; this is my first time posting anything online. To compound the problem, I never learned HTML, VB (don't laugh!), a little bit of C and a thesis in LaTeX are as far as my editing skills stretch. --NotANumber (talk) 21:12, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
No need to apologize, I'm not annoyed or anything, I just have a habit of nitpicking. -- Nx / talk 21:23, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
People say I apologise too much but at the same time I'm feeling my way into a non-lurking online existence. Also I respect and admire you guys' work and don't want to mess it up. --NotANumber (talk) 21:29, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
You can't really mess up stuff, we like to say that you can't do anything that can't be reverted quickly and painlessly. Open your mind and soon you will become a great wikimeister like Ed "I created the age template" Poor. :) -- Nx / talk 21:49, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Hee hee, that's what I try to tell my sisters and parents about computers generally! Presumably if I don't open my mind I'm a non-Bible reading, evolution-believing liberal? :P On a slightly more serious note, can I check that the protocol when seeing the edit conflict screen is to copy my changes into the top box and to but EC in brackets before them? I'm surmising this from having followed various conversations but just wanted to be sure. Thanks, NotANumber (talk) 22:04, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
There's no formal rule, you don't have to tell us you were edit conflicted, but that's the usual method (some people like to inform the person who edit conflicted them exactly how much pain it caused them by typing it in uppercase or adding a multiplier. For extra humiliation, add AARGH!!!, e.g. ECx4 AAAARGHH!!!). -- Nx / talk 22:38, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Info[edit]

Just for info, NaN You have to close the commenting out with "-->" 10:52, 27 September 2010 (UTC) SusanG Toast

Thanks for that Susan and sorry for causing you to have to clean up after me. I was editing on a phone and cursing the small screen made me forget about closing the formatting! Thanks again. --NotANumber (talk) 16:51, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Sysoppery[edit]

We're sorry, but you've been made a sysop (finally). Here's your mop. Now get to work!!! AnarchoGoon Swatting Assflys is how I earn my living 01:17, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
