Hi, Love the name. Wave.gif. Nice of you to join us. If you'd like to know a bit more about the site please have a look at our RationalWiki:Newcomers' guide.--Bobbing up 15:43, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
Thanks, Bob. I've been haunting the site, along with Andy's craziness, for some time now. Finally decided to stick my flipper in the water. PenguinLust 15:46, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
Cool. Any particular reason for "PenguinLust"?  :-) --Bobbing up 16:05, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
Well...since it involves underage waterfowl, I won't go into details but...actually, it just occurred to me, though I am a big fan of Bloom County. PenguinLustI hate walruses 16:09, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
Under-age waterfowl. Fish bait?--Bobbing up 16:39, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
lol - nicely done! I think you netted more on that exchange than I did. Don't go fishing for more compliments, though - I'll hook you with niceties and throw you into the deep end ;) PenguinLustI hate walruses 16:47, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
Do you think that fishy story will take me in hook line and sinker? Chat-smiley.gif (Apologies to anybody else who may be groaning at these puns.)--Bobbing up 16:57, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
Birds of a feather! :) PenguinLustI hate walruses 17:21, 21 October 2008 (EDT)

(unindent)what the hell, Ill jump in PenguinLust, those corny jokes won't fly here. SirChuckBCall the FBI 01:17, 22 October 2008 (EDT)

There's a kernel of truth to that statement. :) PenguinLustGive me herring or give me death 07:17, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
Welcome to the Dollhouse! And, yeah, here, goats of a hair, um, flock, er, toge're? ħumanUser talk:Human 04:15, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
Lol! Thanks! It's ok that you stumbled a bit. After all, you're only human... ;) PenguinLustGive me herring or give me death 07:17, 22 October 2008 (EDT)

I was going to upload a picture of the particular strip when Opus first mentions "penguin lust", but my scanner refused to cooperate. Nonetheless, welcome to RationalWiki, PenguinLust! Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 19:31, 22 October 2008 (EDT)

Many thanks! PenguinLustGive me herring or give me death 22:09, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
*reads PenguinLust's signature* I'm sorry, but we're fresh out of herring. Would you like some death, then? Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 22:14, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
Um...no....thanks, though...I brought some for myself. Would you care for some pickled herring in sour cream? PenguinLustGive me herring or give me death 06:24, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
No thanks. I rather stuff that tastes good.  : ) Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 15:36, 23 October 2008 (EDT)

It's interesting (or perhaps it's not) that "penguin" is one of the very few English words which may be derived from Welsh. I'd love to be able to derive some profound significance from this fact - but, sadly, I cannot.--Bobbing up 17:56, 23 October 2008 (EDT)

Actually, it is interesting. I'm quite interested, in an unofficial, layperson's way, in the development of languages/language families, particularly through the migration of various groups over time. PenguinLustGive me herring or give me death 08:41, 25 October 2008 (EDT)
If you want a bit more on this word: "pen" is Welsh for head and "gwyn" is Welsh for white. Hence "white head". There may be a problem here though, as I'm not convinced that most penguins have white heads.
No, they don't (at least many I've seen at aquariums don't). I looked up origin theories after your posting and noticed that there is some belief that it comes Newfoundland's "pin-wing" name for them - which seems to make sense. Trying to trace things like that are fascinating and frustrating puzzles, sometimes. PenguinLustGive me herring or give me death 09:28, 25 October 2008 (EDT)
