WDYM?[edit]

That Ayn Rand is generally accepted as being a technically worse writer than Orwell - as in her objective 'skills of storytelling' were at best, mediocre. Her settings are not that believable [even after doing the 'willing suspension of disbelief'], the plots fairly ramshackle and boring, her characterisation fairly flat, she is overly turgid, swathes of her longer works are her basically lecturing the reader on what she believes is right and she either was ignorant or deliberately disdainful towards the 'tricks of the trade' novelists use to make the thing 'flow' better.

This is different from 'subjectively' bad - when you don't like the plot etc of the book. For example, I would say The Great Gatsby is technically beautiful, but the story itself leaves me cold. KarmaPolice (talk) 17:05, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

I thought the word "technically" implied that you had to do some semantics to get to that conclusion when it's pretty clear to most people reading the wiki that Atlas Shrugged isn't a good book. Oh well. --R3Ked (talk) 19:14, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
