Eric Raymond[edit]

Eric Raymond is a fucking nutter. Citing him to make Wikipedia look bad makes you look bad. Hipocrite (talk) 16:51, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

That change you just made to your userpage won't save, some nerd is messing around with the server. This means you're sort of allowed to vandalize (as long as it isn't mainspace). Christopher (talk) 17:38, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

I understand. I didn't intend to save this anyway, just to test (file/gallery/captioning).--ʘ ౪ ʘ °°° 17:47, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
Unrelatedly, you are temporarily (due to the server thingy) demoted to the lowly rank of sysop, here is your guide. Christopher (talk) 17:51, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
Finally! My career is set for take-off :-) --ʘ ౪ ʘ °°° 18:00, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Copying from Wikipedia[edit]

Rainbow trout transparent.png Whack!
You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Somebody just wants to let you know you did something silly.

Please don't copypaste from Wikipedia. Yes, our licenses are compatible, but it's still in poor form and is against the rules here. Plutocow (talk) 18:41, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

@Cosmikdebris and @Plutocow regarding Frank Miller deletion - I mean, I know what the so-called "copy vio" means and why it's important, and why it's imperative to avoid taking content from others - I said in my edit-summary that I used en.wiki lede to jump-start the article - but gosh, those few sentences were literally the driest biographical information. I would be surprised to see that if you decided to (re)create the same article, that you would be able to avoid those few sentences or write them in a significantly different way or form:

Frank Miller (born January 27, 1957) is an American comic book writer, penciller and inker, screenwriter, film director and producer known for his comic book stories and graphic novels such as Daredevil, for which he created the character Elektra, Daredevil: Born Again, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, Sin City, and 300.
Miller is noted for bringing film noir and manga influences to his comic art creations, he said: he "was attempting to do a hybrid." Miller has received every major comic book industry award, and in 2015 he was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame. Miller's feature film work includes writing the scripts for the 1990s science fiction films RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, sharing directing duties with Robert Rodriguez on Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, producing the film 300, and directing the big screen adaptation of The Spirit. Sin City earned a Palme d'Or nomination.

I would understand the reaction if some good chunk of that en.wiki article was literally lifted word to word from it, but I didn't expect this..--ʘ ౪ ʘ °°° 19:08, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

The CS was amended in 2022 to disallow copying from other wikis. If you could rewrite that in your own words, preferably with a SPOV, then it would be fine, but don't just copypaste it. Plutocow (talk) 19:12, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
No, look, I am fully aware what your guy's concern is, but this txt in above box isn't copy/paste - there are few very small modifications but modifications, nonetheless. However, beyond that, and after choosing what info to convey in such short starting paragraph, I simply can't see how something dry like this could be rewritten in another way. Just look at it sentence by sentence. You can only choose to discard some bits, leaving something out, or change sequence in wording, join or divide sentences (there is, however, only one short line that I missed to change, "sharing directing duties with Robert Rodriguez", which can be rewritten into "co-directing with Rodrigez"), I can't see much else that can be done - you can compare few sentences from above with those on en.wiki.--ʘ ౪ ʘ °°° 19:56, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Not all of this information is necessary for a RW article, however. RW articles should focus on the missional aspects, not listing every single comic he wrote or reward he won. Plutocow (talk) 20:16, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

Rewritten[edit]

Most famously he produced controversial film 300.

Hey, @Plutocow, I apologize for fleeing so suddenly yesterday, I had some stuff to do - what do you think is this sufficiently rewritten and is it relevant enough to start an article in the first place - I could eventually expend it sometime in the future, but for now it would remain a "stub" - if not, it doesn't matter, it's not a big deal. Thanks.--ʘ ౪ ʘ °°° 19:08, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
