What happened to DeltaStar? ContribsTalk 16:03, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Toasty! DeltaStar lives on! DeltaStarSenior SysopSpeciationspeed! 16:58, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- The only thing I know about Star:delta is that it's how you wire a 3phase motor to give max torque at start up (I think that was it, but it's 40 years since I last met it)

- That's not correct, I'm afraid Sue; Star-Delta starting is used to limit the inrush current when a 3-phase motor is started. It is not used too much nowadays due to advances in power electronics making variable frequency drives cheaper. You are of course forgiven for your mistake, given that it was 40 years ago! (Incidentally, squirrel cage induction motors give maximum torque at startup by virtue of torque being a product of slip; slip is 100% at startup) For more 3-phase information, please do not hesitate to ask!
