Bible-based marriage is between one man and his sister and the help… Goodness me, Lord, the help? Doing the help?? I don't even speak to mine!
—America's Best Christian explaining Biblical marriage[1]

Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian is a satirical character portrayed by Canadian comedian Deven GreenWikipedia's W.svg and conceived by Andrew Bradley.[2] Especially since her YouTube debut in 2008,[3] she has become quite influential on the internet, and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback.[4] As well as her YouTube channel, Bowers has featured in her own TV show, Betty Bowers: America's Best Christian, which ran from 2008 to 2013 and featured Green as Bowers, as well as her husband Joel Bryant as Jesus.[5] She is also an important member of the Landover Baptist Church and its most reliable financial supporter.[6]

Bowers is a haughty, prim, conservative American church lady who lampoons and deconstructs many aspects of Christianity as practised in modern America. Her mannerisms, exaggerated diction and withering admonishments have been quite a turn-on for some of her fans, who have expressed a desire for her to "punish" them.[7]

Her video, "Betty Bowers Explains Traditional Marriage to Everyone Else", skewers the phrase "traditional marriage" through Bible-drawn examples of incest, polygamy, child brides, rapist marriages, etc.[1][7] Other targets of her satire include (but are not limited to) Sarah Palin,[3] the GOP,[8] religious anti-abortion arguments,[9] the War on Christmas,[10] the Westboro Baptist Church,[11] The United States as a Christian nation,[12] Vladimir Putin,[13] prayer,[14] religious freedom,[15] Donald Trump,[16][17] guns and the NRA,[18][19] patriotism[20][21] and political snarl words.[22] She also made a comedic remix of two homophobes having hilarious breakdowns over same-sex marriage.[23]

Many of Betty's opinions and pieces of advice were published in the form of a book, What Would Jesus Betty Do?, in 2002.[24] In an interview, Bowers explains that the book "picks up where the two previous testaments that the Lord scribbled left off — only mine, of course, in a radical departure from the Lord's literary efforts, actually makes sense, tries to be consistent and has a central character who wears expensive shoes."[25]
