whoa[edit]

Whoa, déjà vu. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 19:31, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

I think this would be the point. Zero (talk - contributions) 19:43, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Can we add links to the games themselves, for those that come from games? Fuzzy "Cat" Potato, Jr. (talk/stalk) 19:48, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Do it - David Gerard (talk) 20:19, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
... I honestly don't know 50% of these. Please, wizened sage Gerard, teach us young'uns. Fuzzy "Cat" Potato, Jr. (talk/stalk) 20:32, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
You think I know 'em? - David Gerard (talk) 21:25, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
But you added them? Fuzzy "Cat" Potato, Jr. (talk/stalk) 21:39, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
You guys crack me up.Chrimony (talk) 23:28, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Where is QWOP?—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 19:52, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Games made since Y2K don't qualify for nostalgia. Why, back in the day, Real Gamers™ used an isometric grid and a pencil to draw 3D maps of a maze of twisty passages, all alike. Then along came Sierra, with their cutting-edge Hercules graphics, planting Easter eggs mocking players of "text adventures." Kids these days don't know how good they've got it. Alec Sanderson (talk) 20:13, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
QWOP is the true gamer challenge though.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 22:05, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

What is this about[edit]

Can't access reddit, and I don't get if this is serious, mockery of a common behavior, or mockery of a common behavior that wraps back around to seriousness. Also, config.sys was awesome. Ikanreed (talk) 19:58, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

It's in funspace for a reason. Zero (talk - contributions) 20:07, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I just want to know what spawned it, since I can't follow the link. Ikanreed (talk) 20:15, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Here's a picture that kicks it off. Reddit Text: Gators in the Wild: RationalWiki. Gator: "That a bunch of women play Angry Birds doesn't make them gamers." RW: "Unless you've crashed a Cobra Mk III into the back of a Coriolis space station and completed Oh No! More Lemmings, you're not a real gamer and your opinion doesn't matter anyway." Zero (talk - contributions) 20:18, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Gamergaters don't think the wimmenz can be real gamers, they just play casual games. Gators often argue this with people who've been gaming since before the gator in question was a contraception failure. So we goin' old skool - David Gerard (talk) 20:19, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Okay, that clarifies things a lot. Now I can contribute without feeling the risk that I'm missing the point. Thanks, everybody. Ikanreed (talk) 20:34, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
It's about a strawman thread on Reddit where they take one line out of context and ignore the rest of the argument that shows why the word 'gamer' as games enthusiast is an important distinction. Also some argument-by-authority about how the people I'm arguing with are older gamers than I am (and even that is assumed based on nothing but ignorance, since I already mentioned loving Sierra games as a kid.) Chrimony (talk) 23:38, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Quiet please, the adults are having fun - David Gerard (talk) 23:50, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

If you don't understand this[edit]

... you have a RealLife (TM). 82.44.143.26 (talk) 15:10, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Can we add this in? FuzzyCatTomato (talk/stalk) 15:18, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Feel free the TM added 'in the spirit of Funspace'
The one about Nethack probably covers this. It really was a hazard to degrees - David Gerard (talk) 17:57, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Should there be a mention/reworking of [2]? 82.44.143.26 (talk) 15:30, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

No - David Gerard (talk) 17:57, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Reversing the polarity[edit]

The opposite of a Real Gamer is:

  • an unreal gamer
  • a forever-novice
  • a RealLife-ist

or what? 82.44.143.26 (talk) 15:39, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

This is a parody. I don't think any of us buy into the notion that being a gamer requires any hurdle greater than "Enjoys games as a pastime" ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 16:10, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

That study in WIGO about worse gamers being GGers[edit]

Could it be integrated somehow? αδελφός ΓυζζγςατΡοτατο (talk/stalk) 20:00, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

About getting nuked by Gandhi[edit]

What if I've never gotten nuked by Gandhi because I always burn him with nuclear FIYAH(!!!) as soon as I can? Iggles (talk) 14:42, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

  • In that game? That's not being a real gamer. That's being eminently practical. Kencolt (talk) 05:59, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

Xkcd[edit]

It had to happen eventually. Christopher (talk) 12:40, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

Something about Dwarf Fortress?[edit]

That seems like the sort of "hardcore" game that would suit this page. I've never played though, so I don't know what to write. —Kazitor, pending 10:26, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

The idea is games that are not just hardcore, but decades old - David Gerard (talk) 19:01, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
Dwarf Fortress is almost 12 years old now. That's at least one decade. Certainly the ASCII graphics help. —Kazitor, pending 11:21, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
If you don't even know what Dwarf Fortress is, are you a real gamer? It's still weird to see DF right next to Tetris and a C64--2friedeggs (talk) 20:53, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
There are a number of model villages/towns and model train layouts on public display in the UK - is this something different? Anna Livia (talk) 23:13, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

Suggestion[edit]

A reference to the Real McCoy.

Could 'the hostile AI' be diverted into becoming a Real Gamer? Anna Livia (talk) 17:36, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
