Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad, better known as Mullah Krekar (1956–), is an Iraqi-born Kurdish Sunni cleric and the former head of Muslim terrorist group Ansar al-Islam (see Abu Musab al-Zarqawi).[1]
Krekar came to Norway with his family in 1991 as a quota refugee and has since been imprisoned for making threats against public officials. Although he was supposed to be extradited to Iraq, the order was suspended because the likelihood of torture is high there.
In July 2019, Krekar was sentenced to 12 years in prison by an Italian court for planning terror attacks. Italian prosecutors maintained Krekar led a terror group called Rawti Shax, with ties to ISIS.[2]
