Domestic policies[edit]

What were Kruschchev's domestic policies like? What was the workplace like? How was it organized? What social programs existed under his tenure? How did he treat indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities in the USSR? Carthage (talk) 23:29, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

Yeah, this user did the same thing with Taft and Burr: make a stub and then leave it in the hopes that someone else cleans it up. Even the Marshall article was in very poor shape before I at least added some shit to the intro. It's still not great even now. This user seems to not know that drafts belong in draftspace. Carthage (talk) 00:45, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
I have suspicions I could do a better draft out of the stuff in my own head [so don't ask for refs]. I urge the pagemaker to use this as an opportunity to learn more about Khrushchev; for a start I would urge them to look into 'The Thaw', 'peaceful coexistence', 'de-Stalinisation' [esp his 'secret speech'], 'Cuban Missile Crisis' and why he was deposed in 1964. Purges[edit]

Calling Khrushchev the "Anti-Stalin" is erroneous given that he was deeply involved in Stalin's purges, which are not even mentioned here. Bongolian (talk) 06:34, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

'Someone I knew long ago' said that they had come across a story that Khrushchev claimed to have personally killed Beria in a Cabinet meeting. (This might have been based on the similar story involving Albania's Hoxha and Shehu.) Anna Livia (talk) 10:15, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
I was claiming that in reference to his policy of de-Stanization, but--yeah, you're right, not even going to deny that this page is quite slap-dash in more than a few ways. I'm editing it to make that more clear. Thank you for your feedback.--Ephrom (talk) 13:11, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
In the context of the Bolshevik Party, wouldn't the anti-Stalin be Trotsky or Bukharin? Are you also gonna cover Khrushchev's domestic policies beyond political rights? Carthage (talk) 13:15, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Yes. Bukharin was the leader of the Right OppositionWikipedia and Trotsky of the Left OppositionWikipedia. Khrushchev was almost as cruel as Stalin. GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 14:40, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
What do you think would be a better headline for the section about de-Stanlization and how he tried to distance himself from Stalin?--Ephrom (talk) 15:27, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
That was a rhetorical question. No need to condescend. Carthage (talk) 03:41, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
'De-Stalinisation'? One of the things which needs to be remembered that Old Whiskers' paranoia, vanity and massive Dunning-Kruger had really warped the USSR - from the Purges which sent to their deaths enough brain-power to give any country a general Renaissance to the fact nobody ever told him bad news or dared contradict him [part of the 'Secret Speech' gave details about how Stalin had 'backseat driven' much of WW2 to the point they very well could have lost it] which at best produced suboptimal outcomes for stuff. Khrushchev was a dedicated 'Party Man' and only knew 'Stalin methods' of getting shit done, but he has to be credited at least to not having been a megalomaniacal, bloodthirsty dictator [ie his predecessor] or a soulless careerist who didn't really seem to give much of a fuck about the increasing stagnation and corruption [ie his successor]. It's also a said state of affairs that in Soviet/Russian history, Khrushchev was perhaps one of the least repressive. KarmaPolice (talk) 01:56, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
