Talk:PewDiePie/Archive1
Who is calling the strikes and does it matter?[edit]
Just out of curiosity I checked out the growth of PewDiePie channel on YouTube from January 2017 to January 2019. It is something like 50%. It seems that, a la Trump, he could shoot someone on the streets of Gothenburg and not lose subscribers. Fame he's got, but is he mission-worthy?Ariel31459 (talk) 04:06, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
- Not completely sure if it's missional, he basically just included some dodgy imagery for deliberate shock value, and called someone the n-word. That is basically it. The massive hoo-har is based on the number of fans he has. — Dysk (contribs) 10:16, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, why do people want us to have an article about him? RoninMacbeth (talk) 15:35, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
@Ariel31459 @D @RoninMacbeth I started a vote. Nerd (talk) 19:20, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Yes, delete it[edit]
No, keep it[edit]
- Actually since this article was started PewDiePie has become a really popular figure among the alt-right, helped by the fact he is actually pretty racist and regularly uses right-wing/racist themes to popularize his content. Not to mention the fact his fans like committing mass murder. :/ — Dysk (contribs) 19:37, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Per Dysk. Sure he's just a shibbolith, and doesn't really promulgate (much) of the bullshit himself, that role as a shibbolith for, well, literal nazi, literal mass murderers, is pretty missional, at least the same way "88" or viking runes are. There's a lot of bad ways to talk about it that can go against our mission, but it's totally on mission to talk about internet personalities of note who make "gas the jews" "jokes" then have people who namecheck them while they kill jewish people. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 19:52, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- The fact that he follows PrisonPlanet on Twitter, would make this page more useful in the future if he goes down the Conspiracy trail. Tinribmancer (talk) 20:55, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
Other opinions[edit]
Twitter follows[edit]
Pewdiepie is following quite an amount of icky far right personalities:
- Ben Shapiro
- PJW (@prisonplanet)
- Steven Crowder
- Lauren Southern
- Stefan Molyneux
His non-apology about the whole death to all jews thing had him fuming about the media for a good 20 minutes, and likes to drop in right wing flavoring from (i remember him explicitly taking 'the left cant meme' stance when he reviewed the npc meme) in many of his videos.
Its a subtle nudge into the direction of far right personalities, who are happy to take in his fans who are already familiar with some of their talking points, and are happy to defend him from the evil liberal media whenever hes under flak for something he's said and done. He's a 80 million subscriber strong opening into the right wing pipeline.
In light of the recent shooting, and the whole whole "terrorist saying subscribe to pewdiepie" thing, we should expand this article somewhat to include more information. — Unsigned, by: Bigboyalex / talk / contribs
- LOL these people aren't "far right". Actually their views would be considered moderate almost anywhere in the world. It's the one-way mass immigration supporters that are thinking abnormally. 82.132.215.156 (talk) 10:05, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
- Stefan Molyneux can safely be considered far-right, Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder are a bit more nebulous, but certainly right wing. — Dysk (contribs) 11:17, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
- Lauren Southern certainly has links to the far right (being banned from the UK as an extremist), and Prison Planet is closely linked to InfoWars which is both very right-wing and very full of nonsense. So, yes, lots of far-right associates. --Annanoon (talk) 13:18, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
- Ben shapiro is "more nebulous"? In what fucking planet is he not a weirdo who builds his whole life around a far right vision of trolling? Every time one of these weirdo internet personalities is questioned, I have to wonder what on earth justifies even pretending they moderate their views. Is the overton window so far shifted that you have to actively believe in genocide(not counting some vague-but-serious suggestions to that end about Palestinians by Shapiro) to be "far right" now? ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 14:41, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

Question about the shoutout[edit]
Is the Channel Shoutout referenced here E;R?. Since they aren't a racist (certainly supports Trump though) They explained that it's just jokes or a persona in one recent video. Ollanius pius (talk) 20:18, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Generally speaking saying something was "just a joke" after people complain is just an attempt at damage control. — Dysk (contribs) 20:21, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- True, true but this seems more like a person making edgy jokes than actually racism. With the cuts, and sudden stop in audio before the actual racist thing is said. Like 14 year old edge not Hard core skinhead sort of thing. Ollanius pius (talk) 20:23, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah but that's what the kids say when the police interview them for promoting right wing terrorism. "it wasn't akctually racism, honest gov' we were just memeing, it's cool innit". — Dysk (contribs) 20:27, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- It's all fun and games until a Nazi sympathizer agrees with 90% of your ideology. -22:45, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Confusing order of quotation and sentences[edit]
I recently tried to move the two sentences "Heavy.com notes that "the reference appears to be an effort to troll the media";[30] Kjellberg probably didn't actually "plan and fund this whole operation". Kjellberg has not publicly commented on the shooting." to the end of the article because the first sentence refers to a reference by the Poway synagogue shooter to Kjellberg which, as of right now, only exists in the article in the quote which follows these two sentences, so it makes no sense to put this bit before the quote. However, my move was undone.
tl;dr: You can't say "the" reference before you've introduced the reference you're referring to. It doesn't make sense.
Because of my controversial edits to other articles and/or the Coop complaint recently raised against me, which has now closed, it could have been assumed by other users that me moving the two sentences (and failing to do it properly the first time, necessitating a second edit) was me being malicious, or misbehaving in some way. However, it was not malicious (and nor were any of my other edits to other articles, I should add). It was simply an attempt to make the article make sense. Right now, it does not make sense.
Also, I think we need some kind of warning or at least intro before dumping the reader into that massively racist quote from the shooter - I need eye-bleach after reading that quote. But right now there is no warning anyway, so moving those two sentences won't make that any worse.--Greenrd (talk) 07:54, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Greenrd I would say this is one you can work on without too much issue. Have fun. — Dysk (contribs) 09:17, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
Correction proposition[edit]
Hi, new user here. There is a sentence in the article of Pewdiepie that goes as "he certainly did used to follow ". I think it is a grammar mistake and I wish I could fix it but I do not have the necessary permissions. Is it possible to inform someone that could fix the text? — Unsigned, by: Luciagarcia8818 / talk / contribs
- Fixed. Tinribmancer (talk) 19:29, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
PewDiePie and the ADL[edit]
It appears PewDiePie was going to donate $50,000 to the Anti-Defamation League, but backed out due to backlash from his fans. I'm wondering if we should perhaps add mention of this to the article. TheRationalGamer 00:12, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
- I threw together a quick mention of it. Feel free to build on it if you can. Soviet Hologram God (talk) 01:14, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. It looks good, but the order is now off since discussion of the Christchurch massacre comes after -- I suggest moving it to right after there. CogitoNotStirred (via telepathy) (talk) 23:11, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
The Revival of PewNews[edit]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHB9yzsQGnY Felix is addressing the ADL controversy now. Do you think we should update the article? 68.0.189.224 (talk) 22:38, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Edit Conflict[edit]
@Magic Master @Zero So can someone explain why my edits keep getting reverted? VerminWiki (talk) 00:38, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- Because from you reverting edits, it looks like you're trying to whitewash Pewdiepie's antisemitism and racism allegations by editing that out of the article? Magic Master (talk) 01:47, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Magic Master No, that's not what I was trying to do. What I was trying to do was get rid of the wishy-washy shit like, "oh Felix just trivializes such issues." VerminWiki (talk) 02:59, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
