"Post Board Minutes on the Saloon or Other Visible Page"[edit]
I have a plan to write up a fancy new site for the RMF, after all this crap I have to take care of in the present is finally resolved. Whether that will make the site used more is still up to the actual board members writing stuff, but who knows. I am definitely interested in helping the RMF move away from being constrained to wiki software and implementing some other tools. —Kazitor 23:18, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- That's all well and good, but even after that I hope posting minutes here will be a good idea. Until we get other online communities together, the Wiki will be where all voters and members come from. I do like the idea of another site, though. What would we write about there? RoninMacbeth (talk) 23:32, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- Apologies if I was unclear, I meant giving the existing site a complete makeover (WordPress? yuck). If done properly, the wiki could possibly pull updates from there. I think integrating things together would be really good; in the end it would be nice if someone could have a single user account which lets them do actual wiki stuff here, do WIGOs with a non-wiki interface elsewhere, etc. and have all this stuff collected on one site. —Kazitor 23:42, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- clicks on link* Fuck, that's old. I also did wonder if we should expand content a bit. I mean, RussianalWiki is dead, EvoWiki is gone, the blogs are Odin knows where, and we'll, that leaves RationalWiki. That's it. I was kind of tossing an idea around. Maybe (please don't laugh)... RatCast? A Rational Podcast? RoninMacbeth (talk) 23:49, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- It appears our intentions align nicely :) Not surprised you weren't aware of the site, perhaps with a redo it would be worth promoting more. Podcast could use a different name, but if there are people willing to do it (and enough content to justify it) then it's a fine idea. A good example of content that, despite being possible, does not suit the wiki format. —Kazitor 23:57, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi[edit]
Not to get in some stupid edit-war with you, but I think my last edit was justified. However, if you feel that strongly, I won't revert. Thanks. - Notaliberalnosrs (talk) 18:23, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Alright. I don't feel strongly, but why do you feel your edit was justified? RoninMacbeth (talk) 18:28, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

- @Notaliberalnosrs Murder is sort of a universal no-no, in that it doesn't really change between cultures all that much. In addition the comment is in response to several forms of Biblical literalism, which claim that murder is wrong because God says so in the Ten Commandments (Except it doesn't actually say that, but then again Fundies aren't really known for their reading skills), and that morality can only come from God. (Why is it always God with the big G? Why not god with a little g, or Cthulhu?) ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 00:03, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- Actually kinda my point. I believe the original comment had to do with no 10 commandments. You just actually filled in the blanks there lol. - Notaliberalnosrs (talk) 00:45, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Notaliberalnosrs"I believe the original comment had to do with no 10 commandments." Are trying to say that the original comment didn't involve referencing "the Ten Commandments"? Or that it did but it referenced the specific Ten? ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 02:59, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not 100% what we're fighting about at this point lol. If my opinion on some 2,500 thousand year old book was wrong, I'm going to touch gloves and tap out ;) - Notaliberalnosrs (talk) 04:43, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

- I'm pretty sure murder would've been a clear no-no since the days of Cain and Abel. That God handed out 10 commandments at one point doesn't mean everything before that point was a blank slate. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 19:40, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

Being less confrontational(cont)[edit]
Maybe. My experience says no. That if you start giving benefit of the doubt once intellectual dishonesty rears its head, you get dragged into a mire of weeds where you find yourself arguing a pedantic counterpoint on a minor supporting point on your tenth reply to the person. And your main point has still not been addressed along the way. And if you go "Can you please address -the main point-" you get a pedantic argument about some sentence you say in that post. It's an experience I've replicated enough that feel cutting through the bullshit and making it an actual fight goes better. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 19:21, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- That's a nice summary of most Internet arguments. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 19:24, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Ikanreed Which raises another question; what exactly is the main point of yours and Nerd's argument, and how is he being intellectually dishonest about it? RoninMacbeth (talk) 19:25, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- Which argument? The one where they hat-muted people who said John McCain is someone we're better off without because it was offensive, then immediately accused me of not tolerating anything offensive? The one where they edit warred John McCain's article without discussing any of it on the talk page? The one where they edit warred the misandry article to make it seem like feminists want to kill all men, and only engaged in the talk page where they only talked about my tone in rejecting the dumbass change? - It's a little weird. For Coop cases, you post on RationalWiki:Chicken coop, not RationalWiki talk:Chicken coop. Yeah, it's confusing, don't question it. RoninMacbeth (talk) 17:38, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- Perhaps giving the page a joke name wasn't such a great idea after all... Avida Dollarsher again 17:41, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- No, the bad idea was more the inconsistency with disciplinary project pages. I suspect that Lankaster's confusion arises from the fact that ATIM uses the talkpage for discussion, while the Coop uses the Project page.

Look, ariel wants to not see "blue language"[edit]
It's for his own good, Ronin.
He needs to be spared seeing "fucking" on talk pages. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 18:17, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- No, he doesn't. If Ariel wants to be prudish, let him. RoninMacbeth (talk) 18:23, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- What? No. He needs to be protected. He's too delicate and precious to continue be on this wiki. It's not safe for him. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 18:27, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- Do you really believe that? RoninMacbeth (talk) 18:29, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

- That's what I thought. Think of it like this: is it possible that blocking him will make anything better? Or is it just anger at what you see as intransigence with no way to solve it? RoninMacbeth (talk) 18:35, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- I mean, honestly, it was a "fun" way to solve an insincere complaint. But the second block was anger at that absolute fucker calling any other person in the history of the world a sophist. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 18:40, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- Would you mind explaining to me what it is, exactly, you two are arguing about on Laci Green? Before I just write it off as yet another theater in the Grand Ariel vs. Ikanreed Pissing Contest? I'd really rather solve the problem, if it would just get the two of you to stop for even a second. RoninMacbeth (talk) 18:42, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- Contentwise, it was literally just the word "some" to make "dislikes liberals" into "dislikes some liberals". He wanted to add pointless ambiguity. I supplied the citation in the talk page to show that "dislikes liberals" is a position she's explicitly 100% backed, with one of her many alt-right buddies. The rest of it was him arguing about arguing. And general shittiness. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 19:04, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- ...Wow. Here I was expecting something like the Linda Sarsour thing between Lankaster and James. But this... I mean, on the one hand, I'm inclined to agree with you on the content for now. But on the other...wow. You and Ariel have REALLY lost perspective on this.
- Still waiting for Ariel to state his case, BTW. RoninMacbeth (talk) 19:11, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

RoninMacbeth: My comments of today are meant to respond to the discourteous and overblown criticism of ikanreed. I don't care that much about the fucking edit. It was his hostility I was reponding to. Were I to complain about blue language it would refer only to ikanreed's attacks on newer users. I don't give a fuck what he says about me. I am telling him what I really think of him because he seems to want to know: when it comes to ethics, he is a fucking ethical nightmare. He doesn't have to apologize to me for any rotten, fucking nasty shit he has spouted. To get along with me, he just has to stop being a total asshole to new users. Reversion[edit]
I saw you started the vote for your proposal ignoring the issue I raise about it. Could you please take it under your consideration? -Lankaster (talk) 15:23, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Well, for starters, the whole point of this is that JEC can't just revert without a really, REALLY good reason. If he does, further steps will be taken against him.
- Second, I don't know what else you want us to do. I'm trying to curb his tendencies to edit war with this proposal, and I did not see any alternative you propose. If you think the current proposal is ineffective, then please make a proposal of your own. RoninMacbeth (talk) 15:33, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- "the whole point of this is that JEC can't just revert without a really, REALLY good reason. If he does, further steps will be taken against him." Good, then I think it's the right solution. I didn't understand you meant it. Could you just make it explicit? Maybe writing it just after the subsection "RoninMacbeth's Proposal"? -Lankaster (talk) 15:47, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, sure. RoninMacbeth (talk) 15:53, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- I saw that you only copied what you had already written. Still, I meant making explicit the part about reversion, because I'm afraid that a reversion per se would not be considered edit warring, and so it would not be under the umbrella of your proposal. Of course you don't have to make it personal to James, same rules apply to me. Can you add something like: "In particular, nobody can't just revert without a really, REALLY good reason. If he does, further steps will be taken against him"? -Lankaster (talk) 16:20, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Let me get to a computer. I've been editing mobile. RoninMacbeth (talk) 16:22, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Actually, isn't it kind of already specific? The edit-warring part already basically covers your objections. Or is there something else? RoninMacbeth (talk) 16:39, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- "Actually, isn't it kind of already specific?" If one user makes an edit, then a second user makes a reversion, is that edit warring? I think many would say "no". They would say it's edit warring if the first user then revert the reversion. For this reason I wanted to make explicit that also reversions must be justified... -Lankaster (talk) 17:00, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- I think this should do well as a definition. RoninMacbeth (talk) 17:02, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- I read and I still think that without making explicit that reversion must be done with good reasons there is no improvement, actually it can make things worse for me: I make an edit, James reverts it with a motivation like "XYZ of all people", I cannot revert the reversion (otherwise I will be accused of edit warring) and I have to call moderators to get and approval of my edit. James gets no sanction (he was not edit warring) and he made editing more difficult. I think only adding something like: "In particular, nobody can't just revert without a really, REALLY good reason. If he does, further steps will be taken against him" will solve this situation. -Lankaster (talk) 17:12, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- If that happens, I will interfere. RoninMacbeth (talk) 17:21, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Target[edit]
Unfortunately, as you can see, James doesn't want to come to any kind of agreement. I want also to point out that, as an evidence of his hostility, he just came to the talk page of Rationalization only to be against me, without giving any constructive contribute (I'm not going to answer to him on Rationalization, to avoid further discussions). I'm afraid that I'm bothering you, coming again on this problem, but I sincerely don't see a way in which I can continue to write on RW if this situation is not settled down and he keeps attacking me. -Lankaster (talk) 09:12, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
- You won the coop case and I haven't edit warred with you since then. What exactly is your problem? I'm not playing into whatever game you started on Spud's talk page to try and make me look like an asshole when the change I made on the Farage page was approved, and I'm not going to mince words with you either about a change you proposed on the rationalization page when you gave no reason for it. Gaming, D&D , and Divinity 2[edit]
So I know you're somewhat of a fan of D&D, but I was wondering if you were into video games, and if so if you were interested in the Divinity series, more specifically Divinity 2. Can you say if you are? ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 02:48, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
- @GrammarCommie: I did not know about the Divinity series, but I've recently gotten back into video games since I figured out how to install Linux alongside Chrome OS. I mostly play Crusader Kings 2 right now, but I'll probably try out Fallout 2 at some point. Do you recommend Divinity? RoninMacbeth (talk) 02:54, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
- I've heard lots of good things about the Divinity 2, don't know much about the series as a whole though. I can say as a turn-based RPG that's caught my interest and is likely to be bought by me the moment it goes on sale again. As for a review, I can't say much for certain since I haven't played it yet but it seems to be based heavily off table-top RPGs, wherein it's true value seems to come out in multiplayer with a full party. And I love that concept, I really do. So... Tentatively recommend it? But on sale on steam or GOG if you're not 100% sure ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 03:11, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
- Just updating this thread a bit, I got Divinity 2 today since it was 35% off on Steam. I still need to install it but I thought I'd let you know. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 03:45, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

- Praise be indeed, I just started today and I'm already in love. It even has it's own GM/narrator! ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 05:04, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
- Damn, I didn't get it yet. I did get Darkest Dungeon, though, and I heartily recommend it. RoninMacbeth (talk) 05:16, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
- Damn, I completely forgot about Darkest Dungeon. And now I don't have enough in my wallet to get it. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 13:13, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
- Bumping this thread a bit here to confirm whether you have a Steam account and if so would you be willing to contact me there to coordinate RPG games such a Divinity 2 and Darkest Dungeon. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 21:03, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Doublethink/Tabula Rasa[edit]
Hey! Given recent events I think it might be wise to promote @Doublethink especially in light of the fact that he's now using a new account which does not have ops. He seems like a nice young chap but I think he was demoted prematurely. --MtDBogan 20:39, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

He made a completely inappropriate edit filter[edit]
To add swear words to an abuse filter, without consulting anyone? It's stupid prudishness, and inappropriate use of tech powers. You can't delete edit filters without directly modifying the database. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 16:54, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- Well then ask him why he made it. If you feel it's an abuse of his powers, take it to the Coop. RoninMacbeth (talk) 16:56, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- Abuse? No. Misuse? Yes. If it auto-banned, it would be abuse, I just wanted to warn him about it next time he logged in, and get him to self-unban. I'm all for effective moderation, but if extreme language moderation is automated? That's bad. That's scunthorp bad, that's tsk tsk nanny policing bad, it's not a good thing to do. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 16:59, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- Well, you seem to have it handled for now, so carry on. Try not to be too confrontational with him, though. I don't ask for that out of "nanny modding," but out of a desire to resolve this issue diplomatically. RoninMacbeth (talk) 17:03, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

- "Seven Samurai." Why do you ask? RoninMacbeth (talk) 17:25, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
- Just because I finally put 2+2 together regarding your name. I'm a big Kurosawa fan & have seen all of his films. I actually saw him in person once at a screening. My favorites are Yojimbo & The Lower Depths. Bongolian (talk) 04:45, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
- Well, I think you are right for the wrong reasons. Don't get me wrong, I like his work, but the origin of my name is that my dad, who IS a really big fan of his, used this as a game username a long time ago. Then he set up a Battle.net account in that name, and it gradually became mine. RoninMacbeth (talk) 14:23, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

- Thanks for letting me know. I'll organize subreddit elections soon.
- TBH, I was tempted to just serve out the rest of my term and not run. But I thought it was dishonest to do so, so I figured the only reasonable and honorable action was to admit I can't be a wiki mod right now, and then to resign. RoninMacbeth (talk) 16:53, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

I'm going to pose to you specifically a question I posed to everyone at the coop[edit]
Do you people think it's biden winning that's making me angry? And not statements like "Everyone who won't vote for biden is an entitled retard" or "you just want to kill people"? I've been perfectly able to engage with other users on the subject.
Of course I'm "always" angry and combative. I'll be the first to recognize that I'm fast to go to harsh words. But I want to seriously ask you if it's ever unwarranted? ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 20:28, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Sometimes? Yes. In general I don't like this level of combativeness in spaces I frequent, but I usually got along with you when it turned out that it was warranted. Like you say, genuine shitheads abound. But then there are the other times where what you're doing is more disruptive than helpful. I think we passed that point a while ago now. RoninMacbeth (talk) 20:37, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- I can't really say it's helpful, no. Wasn't really my intent either, I suppose. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 20:39, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- I've looked through the prior discussions on this talkpage about user disputes. A lot of them involve you. Nevertheless, I don't want to ban you, Ikanreed, if for no other reason than the fact that most of the time, as much as you're an insufferable asshole, you're usually right. But my patience is getting pretty thin, and I think that's true of a lot of other users as well. Do you just need a break? To step away from the site and take some time to rethink some things? RoninMacbeth (talk) 20:49, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- I already take breaks from the site from time to time. Usually no more than a week. It's far from my only hobby. In fact, most of my mainspace edits come from another of my really dull hobbies, reading scientific papers. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 01:32, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- I mean, maybe just from the Bar? It doesn't seem like the Bar is good for anyone, at this point. Even you have to admit it can get pretty bad there. RoninMacbeth (talk) 02:17, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- Not really? In the end it's just words and no one is actually affected. I guess that kind of sentiment is always the last defense of the scoundrel. But there's real shit that really matters out there, and people being offended seems so low on the priority list. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 02:20, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- "People have it worse, get over yourself" is a really poor defense. Like you say, last defense of the scoundrel. RoninMacbeth (talk) 03:05, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

- This is a non-issue, and you, Ronin, didn't answer Ikanreed's question. — Oxyaena Harass 15:23, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- The first question? Fine. My answer is this: I do think he is angry that Biden won. Fair enough, I'm also angry at that. And I think the more volatile members of the "Vote Blue" crowd do piss him off. Again, fair enough. But the fact of the matter is that I don't care why he's pissed. He's lashing out at other members of the community, engaging in a dialogue that is neither constructive nor healthy, and actively making it worse. We can discuss why Biden is a shit candidate later. Right now, I want the children to stop fucking fighting. RoninMacbeth (talk) 15:57, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- RM: Some of our users resort to angry expressions as a means of control. LGM as much as admitted that she is susceptible to this tactic. I don't think either of these two belong in the coop. I think the moderators should moderate. It's OK for me to say "you're full of shit" and for you to come back with "No, you are the one who is full o shit here." That's OK. But if it goes further, some moderator should give a warning. Three strikes shall we say? Then just kick them off the site for a day. No coop bs. But our moderators respect them more than they want to do their jobs. Both contribute a lot. It's understandable. Ariel31459 (talk) 18:47, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

YouTube[edit]
What is so concerning about YouTube? YouTube videos are watched about five billion times each day. Shouldn't divergence be controlled by some sort of statistical normalization? That is to say, on average people will watch what matches up well with their interests. There's this channel originating in southern California (Quest for Details), that posts a lot of nature walks through the rough country in that area. Mostly hunting for interesting views and rock-hounding. I like that one.Ariel31459 (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Ariel31459 Please forgive my confusion, but why are you telling me this? RoninMacbeth (talk) 16:40, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
