Hi, Herbert, we've got a relative of yours here already: Hamster. ToastToastand marmite 06:00, 3 December 2008 (EST)

BTW, we usually reply on the same page, avoids pinggggg pongingggg. (we all watch recent changes so your replyll be seen) ToastToastand marmite 06:05, 3 December 2008 (EST)

Ah, ok. When does this 15 second block go away? (are you sure it's only 15 seconds?) --Herbert the Hamster 06:13, 3 December 2008 (EST)

Sorry, I've NO IDEA, shouldn't be long. (It's our anti-vandal thing - not that we get many vandals) The guy who knows is probably still in his bed in Canada. ToastToastand marmite 06:18, 3 December 2008 (EST)
You is no longer a Wandal. ToastToastand marmite 02:17, 4 December 2008 (EST)

Thank you. But I am still confused, could you explain a little of what is going on in respect of the things I questioned on my user page? Thanks.--Herbert the Hamster 02:22, 4 December 2008 (EST)

(edit clash)
For some reason we seem to have some sort of a predeliction for stars - that's why Epsilon Eridani was OK. We're not an encyclopaedia - and yes, you do have to guess the rules, even though there aren't any. Ask Javascap on his talk page. ToastToastand marmite 02:25, 4 December 2008 (EST)
I see you already did ask Javascap. He's right but was probably a little hasty. ToastToastand marmite 02:41, 4 December 2008 (EST)
I'm still unsure about the article selection system. Why are oxygen carbon and Hydrogen allowed but not "carbon dioxide" and "chlorophyll"? --Herbert the Hamster 03:38, 4 December 2008 (EST)
I'll recreate them all & see what happens. ToastToastand marmite 03:59, 4 December 2008 (EST)
I'm not saying that they were all within what Rationalwiki calls its mission. "Zebra", for example, certainly looks a bit doubtful. I'm only asking for clarification of the policy. But thanks anyway.--Herbert the Hamster 04:10, 4 December 2008 (EST)
Do what you can to try to bring them in, chlorophyll for example is found in the chloroplast of a cell and is a good example of evolution. I have added a CP joke to hamster so it will immediately be more acceptable. - User 04:13, 4 December 2008 (EST)
(edit conflict)I just left a note on the chlorophyll talk page about a possible redirect. It's not a policy, but I'd prefer adding to the articles we've already got (unless there's some obvious gap) rather than create new stubs. However as I said this isn't policy, just my taste. Feel free to put the opposite case. (for instance, could there be food woo stuff about chlorophyll? Totnesmartin 04:18, 4 December 2008 (EST)
Thanks to those who deleted those articles. Now that I understand the "mission" a bit better things are clearer. Though the line doesn't always seem to be black and white. (Partly because it seems there may be a case for keeping both "black" and "white".)--Herbert the Hamster 04:37, 4 December 2008 (EST)

My apology.[edit]

Rather than simply replying on my talk, I am posting this apology on your talk page. I overreacted to the articles you made, and I should have been more welcoming, and helpful, than I was. You did make some usable articles I did not think of, such as, say, Chlorophyll and Plant that fit in very nicely. Again, I sincerly apologise for my incorrect actions, and sincerly hope you accept it. I further apologise for for logging out at an inopportune time, completly failing to follow up with my actions. I hope you have no feelings of resentment, and if so, I further apologise for them. Warm regards, ĴαʊΆʃÇä₰ whats up?

Thank you very much for such a fulsome apology which I accept without reservations. What had really surprised me was that nobody had dropped in here to explain why I was being vandal braked, reverted and blocked by various people in addition to yourself. I had intend to post some questions on other sysops pages too, but after I saw your message referencing the Newcomers' Guide and had some communication from Toast it seemed unnecessary. Thank you again for responding so warmly.--Herbert the Hamster 16:56, 4 December 2008 (EST)
I blocked you just for fun, for which I'm not sorry. I didn't understand why your articles were being vaporised though. Smyth 17:13, 4 December 2008 (EST)
Perhaps it might be a good idea to tell new people that "fun" blocks exist before applying them? Otherwise confusion could arise.--Herbert the Hamster 17:57, 4 December 2008 (EST)

My only complaint...[edit]

Some of the articles you created were not very accurate. Please, if you write about sciencey stuff, get it right if you're only going to write one or two sentences. Thank you, ħumanUser talk:Human 05:15, 6 December 2008 (EST)

Yes, I get that now. But it would have been nice if people had explained that up front.--Herbert the Hamster 05:17, 6 December 2008 (EST)
Looks to me like you were "welcomed" 3 days ago. That template includes links, I think, that should have made things clear. There's also the "main page", which describes our "mission". See, when I visit a new wiki, I always check out their "main page" to see what they are all about. So quit your bitchin'. You didn't pay attention, you just started clicking, and writing, without reading about where you were. It's called "lurking", it's what all decent netizens do on new sites until they get what's going on. So don't expect us to apologize for the fact that you can't read instructions, or observe basic internet etiquette. That said, Welcome to the Dollhouse! ħumanUser talk:Human 05:26, 6 December 2008 (EST)
Yuour welcome template goes to RationalWiki:Community Standards - which does not seem to cover the issues; and to RationalWiki:Contents which is enormous. I created one article which was edited by other authors - I waited a while and then created some more. In short order I was reverted, blocked and put in the vandal bin. I would have thought that somebody could have mentioned something when carrying out these actions. But if that's the RW policy with newbies then so be it. I have never asked for an apology. I also see other authors ignoring your guidelines without apparent consequence.--Herbert the Hamster 06:39, 6 December 2008 (EST)

*sigh*[edit]

And Javascap sat on a chair in Herbert's castle, and wondered where Herbert had gone to. As he looked around, he could not help but wonder if it was his harsh welcome that had anything to do with Herbert leaving. Recognising that there is nothing else he could do, Javascap walks up to Herbert's wheel, and scrapes off the accumulating rust, places some fresh oil on, and leaves.
