Redirects[edit]

Why are you creating redirects--sometimes double redirects-- from terms that aren't even linked from anywhere? TheoryOfPractice 13:34, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

The terms are for elements on the Perodic Table linked from a sandbox belonging to another user. I cannot edit the other user's page, and I wish to eliminate the redlink, therefore I am redirecting all the lesser-known elements to a catch-all page. Mega 13:39, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
Gay Bathhouse was in the periodic table? TheoryOfPractice 13:42, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
You are mistaken that nothing links the gay bathouse, etc. These terms are found at http://rationalwiki.com/wiki/Special:Wantedpages Mega 13:45, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

You're right. Gay bathhouse, # 1167 on the list, with one link to a user page/sandbox. TheoryOfPractice 13:57, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

That's my sandbox of the periodic table I was testing out. I can happily get rid of it to remove the redlinks but I thought it could come in useful if we were to expand on the chemistry sections at some point. ArmondikoVd hominem 15:48, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
I am given to understand that RatWiki does not need to duplicate the raw scientific information found in other wikis, unless the information is being suppressed in Conservapedia for some reason (ie. Vagina) Mega 18:16, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
Some people don't like it and go out of their way to tag everything as "off-mission" but so long as the information is A) vaguely relevent and B) more amusingly written (See RW:SPOV) then I'm all for it. ArmondikoVd hominem 18:25, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
I'm of the same mind, I had to take some time this morning to develop my Julius Caesar stub into something that wouldn't be immediately deleted because it got slapped with that ol' mission tag. Mega 18:27, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
I tried the chemistry pages route, it got nixed after Beryllium. Aboriginal Noise Oh, what a lovely tea party! 22:31, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

Hmmm...[edit]

Just some idle speculation on my part, but based on a pattern of de-redlinking, creating redirects, and other such technical tasks that n00bs don't generally do, I'd guess that you are a certain user who left and never came back. Well? The EmperorKneel before Zod! 18:29, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

Life's a niche, and then you die. Mega 18:32, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

Very well[edit]

Fine, RA, have your sysopship. I would give it to you myself, but I seem to remember that you decratted me. ANYONE WHO IS A BUREAUCRAT, PLEASE TO SYSOP THIS USER.

Sysop.[edit]

yeah.TheoryOfPractice 22:08, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now, I am the master! The EmperorKneel before Zod! 22:14, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
Very well, but you may have granted this dishonor based on a mistaken identity. Mega 22:18, 10 April 2009 (EDT)
I sysopped you 'cause you don't seem like a dick, not 'cause one other guy thinks you're someone else. TheoryOfPractice 22:23, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

Spelling[edit]

Some of the element redirects you're making aren't spelled correctly. 'Bohnrium', 'Proctactinium', 'Berylium', 'Ralladium'. Fall down

It doesn't matter, because what I'm doing is clicking on a red-link from the "Wanted Pages" script output and steering them to the place where Element was steered. The original spelling depends on whoever created the dead link. And my goal is to reduce the total number of red links in RatWiki Mega 00:16, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
Yeah, but that's just stupid if it's misspelled. Why not correct the spelling first, then make the redirect? Your goal is admirable, but your process might just be misguided. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:21, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
Well, at this point I think I got most of the elements, and although it's pretty much an expression of OCD to do redlink removal, my OCD does not extend to spellchecking dead links. On the other hand I have turned at least one redlink into a blue one by fixing a typo in how it was spelled. Mega 00:23, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
On the first point, making redirects from missplelled element names is just silly. If you can't check them, please leave them alone. As per your second point - a little actual effort is far better than random OCD-driven silliness. We're not here to act as an OCD whipping post. We're trying to build something. ħumanUser talk:Human 00:28, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
Okay, roger that, today I took the redlinks down from 18 hundred something to 1500. I don't wanna get in trouble. Someone else can carry on from here. Mega 00:30, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
Just use thought and keep goals in mind, rather than blindly trying to "kill red links" and you'll be fine. Sometimes, one day, all you do is kill one by writing a good article. Others, maybe you ask someone to clean up an archive or user page. Others, maybe you find a new focus for your OCD and we butt heads over that ;) ħumanUser talk:Human 01:12, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
So I've undone a few dozen of your clumsy "deredding" exercises. Some went to what we should actually have as articles, others simply required the brief intervention of though to fix "speed of [light]" to "[speed of light]". You're not really impressing me with your OCD efforts, you're just making a mess in my opinion, more than helping. Try to concentrate more when removing a link - do some work - search for it and see if there's a better link. ħumanUser talk:Human 01:56, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
Well, uh, like I said, I'm done doing the redlink removal bit. I don't mind cleaning up around here, but when I get told to piss off I don't need to be told twice. Mega 02:00, 11 April 2009 (EDT)

Mission creep[edit]

Assuming this really is a rational wiki, the truth value of an assertion has nothing to do with the person making the claim.

And who are you, oh, newly joined member who deletes redlinks without circumspection, to tell us what our mission is already?- User:Human, Talk:Visible_light, 02:26, 11 April 2009 (EDT)

I answer that:

If someone came and read our article after looking it up on wikipedia, would they come away with new information, new perspective or new thoughts they could not gain from an encyclopedia entry? If every article we have can answer that question with a yes, then we are doing our job!- From "What is a RationalWiki article?" Mega 09:39, 11 April 2009 (EDT)

Hello Human. Mega 09:57, 12 April 2009 (EDT)

This is from a 1977 album called "The New Age of Earth" by Ashra, and it actually was the very first new age album. Deep Distance Mega 22:42, 15 April 2009 (EDT)

You seem to be getting the hang of things here I think. I like that. I also enjoy that you edit copiously on ASK. I hope the multiple outlets bring you pleasure. ħumanUser talk:Human 23:33, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
Thank you Human. Mega 23:34, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
You're very welcome. I know I can be the harshest critic a times. I hope this comment ameliorates that somewhat. ħumanUser talk:Human 23:38, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
I'm a quick study. I was getting a little upset to see my big edits overturned with a mouse click, so I solved that problem by turning off my watchlist. They still get reverted but I don't know about it. Kind of like novocaine on an abscessed tooth. Then I took most of my energy over to aSK for a while. Looks like its dying though. Mega 23:48, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
Hopefully Philip will get some more YEC editors on board soon and give it some resuscitation, PJR doing CPR, as it were. Glad to know you figured out how to avoid the slings and arrows here... ħumanUser talk:Human 00:48, 19 April 2009 (EDT)
