Slightly belated welcome[edit]
Might I suggest that you make a few non-controversial edits each week. Weigh-in on whether or not articles should be deleted and make yourself known by commenting at the Saloon Bar. That way, you'll probably be made a sysop in no time, just like almost everybody else. Then you'll be able to rollback, delete, block and protect, just like almost everybody else here. - Thank you @Spud, for your welcome and the useful tips. My areas of expertise are somewhat narrow and a little esoteric for a site like this, so I'm not sure whether my input will be particularly valid on subjects that I haven't studied, or lectured in. More importantly, without wishing to cause anyone offence, I need to see what this group is actually like before taking steps to gain some sort of community accreditation; the first comment I received was 'X is horseshit' and I think I grew out of that level of 'debate' 4 decades ago. It seems to me that all it takes is another such SysOP on a power kick to prevent an edit from getting published. Even if that's incorrect, I have never been one for 'majority rules' systems and so far (I hope I'm wrong), it looks likes the best way to get edits through is to reflect only what users already believe and to try not to offend anyone's world view. That being the case, I currently have no burning desire to be a SysOp. I just prefer a system that encourages impartial constructive debate rather than populism or bias, and despite its noble claims this site isn't really set up for that; I would clog up the Talk pages (as you've probably noticed), and ruffle feathers by not fitting in. Thanks though. Star Gazer (talk) 13:17, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
