The Democratic Party is a political party in the United States.

[edit] Overview

Though often associated as the "liberal" party in the United States, it has a fair amount of officials, such as Joe Lieberman, who are very conservative in many respects. In addition, the party adopts many positions that can be seen by European standards to be center-right, such as being against drug legalization. It has a substantial liberal wing among the public at large. Its main opposition comes from the conservative Republican Party. Its primary political platform is to roll over to Republican schemes and fail to provide effective leadership for a broad spectrum of increasingly disenfranchised liberal voters, including immigrants, philanthropists, scientists, consumer activists, copyright reformers, people who can't afford seven-figure bribes, and almost anyone who isn't white, male, rich, and psychotically religious.

The Democratic Party has made the mistake of failing to frame its issues in terms of its constituents' prejudices, instead offering "solutions" to "problems" that can easily be "solved" by giving powerful people money to ignore them.

The party's fortunes turned around in the 2006 and 2008 elections, giving them newfound electoral success and growth, mainly because of a group called the Club for Growth, which has proven to be a wildly successful strategy for growing the Democratic Party beyond anyone's imagination.

[edit] Party organization

The party's primary weakness (and, arguably, one of its greatest strengths) when placed in opposition to the Republican Party is that the Democratic Party is a very decentralized and disorganized group that represents an almost impossibly broad range of opinions from center-right to moderate left; it's extremely rare for the entire party to reach an agreement about anything.
