China apologetics are people who defend China's atrocities such as the Uyghur genocide, its censorship, its exploitation of countries abroad, as well as its socioeconomic system. It usually can be compared to Stalin apologetics and Putin apologetics (Because China is alignment with Russia). The apologetics usually trend towards conspiratorial reasoning and hold that any and all criticism of China is nothing more than "State Department propaganda".
Most China apologetics claim to adhere to some degree of Marxist ideology, but the Capitalist nature of the post-Deng Xiaoping Chinese economy and state inevitably results in this Marxism being distorted to justify the actions of the Chinese government. Because of the often glaring ideological discrepancies between pro-China and anti-China communists, the communists who support Chinese economic and political policies are often pejoratively referred to as "Dengists".
Beliefs[edit]
Uyghur genocide denial[edit]
Most China apologetics defend the ongoing genocide of Uyghur populations, often denying it entirely. Dengists claim that the concentration camps in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region are actually "vocational education and training centers" rather than repressive organs of containment for the benefit of the colonizing ethnic Han populations.
Development of the "productive forces"[edit]
China apologetics will excuse any and all anti-worker actions by the Chinese Communist Party, even police repression, as being necessary to reach the full stage of socialism.
Multipolarity[edit]
Because many China apologists are also fanatical Russia supporters, apologists often view Chinese and Russian imperialism as being "anti-imperialism"[note 1] and think that they are supporting their wars of conquest, a quasi-utopian state of multipolarity will be established in which there is no dominant world power.[note 2][1]
The "primary stage of socialism"[edit]
Dengists believe that China's massive stock markets, billionaires, and overseas imperialism can be virtually waved away by claiming they are in the "initial" and "primary stage of socialism" in which private ownership of the means of production is perfectly acceptable so long as they promise to be fully socialist in the fashion of the USSR by 2050.[note 3] China apologists compare China's "primary stage of socialism" with the Soviet Union's New Economic Policy.[note 4][3]
Apologist organizations[edit]
Friends of Socialist China[edit]
FSC is a pseudo-Marxist media organization based in London that promotes Chinese propaganda with the stated aim of "spreading understanding" of "Chinese Socialism".[4]
Wumao[edit]
Also known as the 50 Cent Army, the wumao are professional trolls that exist to drown out dissent in the Chinese netspace.[5]
World Anti-Imperialist Platform[edit]
The "World Anti-Imperialist Platform" is a pseudo-anti-imperialist collection of over a dozen nominally left-wing organizations and parties across the globe united in their belief that Russia and China are anti-imperialist.[6] The WAP's members include the TERF and anti-LGBTQ+ Communist Party of Great Britain, Caleb Maupin's Center for Political Innovation cult, and the "MAGA communist" American Communist Party.[7]
