“”Q: Isn’t the Korean 4B movement virulently transphobic and homophobic?
A: Typical male question. |
—The Onion [1] |
The 4B movement is a transphobic[2][3][4] online movement originating around 2017 on Twitter,[5] and from the South Korean website WOMAD.[6]
Women in the US on social media sites are taking an interest in its tenets following Trump's 2024 election victory,[2] hopefully due to a lack of awareness of the less trans-friendly aspects of the original. Hopefully.
Tenets[edit]
Their belief system follows 4 basic tenets, each one starting with bi (Korean: 비, English: no), hence 4 bis Bs,:
- No dating men (Korean: 비연애; biyeonae)
- No marrying men (Korean: 비혼; bihon)
- No sex with men (Korean: 비섹스; bisekseu)
- No giving birth (Korean: 비출산; bichulsan)[7]
They exclude trans women from their movement,[2][3][4] but not married women (who have broken at least one tenant, and possibly all of them), which just goes to show you that transphobia makes perfect sense.
