Santorum[edit]

The BBC told me Rick Santorum had dropped out. Has he changed his mind? If Rick is out references to him in the article should be cut. Proxima Centauri (talk) 19:22, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Indeed, erasing history is often a good practice. Тyrannis 19:24, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Gawd you're an idiot PC. You make me actually like this Ty creep. Sorry Ty ;) ħumanUser talk:Human 04:02, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Increase Priority[edit]

...Given that he's gonna be the guy who's going to be making up stuff and changing positions in order to win the presidency. I think this one needs to be front-page-able. -- Seth Peck (talk) 20:54, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I would very much agree. Blue (pester) 21:11, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Can we stop prox/INJ from editing it for a while? ТyrannisAn iron, but caring, fist 21:29, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Only if it's a good article. We aren't a news feed, after all. ħumanUser talk:Human 06:10, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Everything above the TOC is a disorganized incoherent mess. How did this even get "bronze"? ħumanUser talk:Human 06:12, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Can you improve teh article User:Inhuman??? Proxima Centauri (talk) 09:14, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Can you improve teh article Would be Tyrant??? Proxima Centauri (talk) 09:14, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

We could if you would stop screwing it up. ТyrannisAn iron, but caring, fist 11:59, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Lol. Maybe I could, and maybe Ty could, but in the meantime slapping a medal on it does not make it better. To increase priority, increase quality. Which means, PC, stay the fuck away from it. ħumanUser talk:Human 03:59, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Back to Seth, the OP, while it is quite possible we could have a Gold quality article on this second-rate politician, I doubt it can be done, especially considering he is in the news almost every day now. Our Gold articles (front page material) tend to be stable and very-well written. An article on a guy who might just become a two-footnote trivia question is probably not going to reach that level of quality. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:02, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Romney turned a $1.5 Billion deficit into a $700 million surplus[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governorship_of_Mitt_Romney 24.189.254.24 (talk) 03:08, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Surely you can do better than that to support your point. ħumanUser talk:Human 03:35, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Obama turned a $450 Billion deficit into a $1.3 Trillion deficit. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 04:03, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

It seems someone forgot Obama's addition of Iraq War costs into the official budget. Plus, it appears Mitt wasn't an enemy of taxation. Osaka Sun (talk) 04:10, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I think you mean George W. Bush. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Mitt Romney wasted a lot of effort flailing around trying to reform the hackery out of state government and left nothing behind but rearranged deck chairs, then took his last two years off. Romneycare works fine, yes, but its time was due and I'm sure Shannon O'Brien or Robert Reich would have done something similar in around the same timeframe, give or take a year. In other words, the only accomplishment of value the man can point to is the one that will hurt him the most with the GOP base. Regarding Obama and deficits, well, you try rebuilding the economy without borrowing a metric kilofuckton of money when tax rates are depressed below what's reasonable and see how that works. EVDebs (talk) 04:18, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

How can you say the economy is improving??? The unemployment rate increased from 8.0% to 8.2% 24.189.254.24 (talk) 04:21, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Under obama some 3.5 million private sector jobs were created. if the Republicans in most states and the feds hadn't pushed for such austerity measures (that generally meant laying public sector employees off) and not rehiring it would be a much different story. issues are complex. you, little BON, are not.Green mowse.pngGodotWhy is being ignorant something to be proud of? 04:23, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Blaming the government for unemployment rates at all is an oversimplification; blaming one person within the government for it, now, that is pure bullshit. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:25, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Romney balanced his budget. Obama did not. The fiscal issues are most important. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 04:38, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Romney was in Mass, a state with an annual budget that is miniscule compared to the US budget. (Defense alone surpasses most state budgets in their entirety). Romeny was gov during a comparatively strong time financially. And he wasn't facing a republican party that said "no" simply for the sake of the word no, at times. Romney cannot even keep his story straight about what he *did* and did not do for the people. Green mowse.pngGodotWhy is being ignorant something to be proud of? 04:42, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Only one president in the last 40 years has balanced the budget: Bill Clinton. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:43, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm not American, but as an outsider, it seems Obama cannot be fairly compared to any president on economic issues. Unless I'm mistaken, no president has ever commenced his term with two expensive wars, a massive economic private sector bailout and a large recession on his hands. The general attitude here in Australia is that Obama has done very well on the economic front, we expected America to lurch into oblivion and so far it hasn't. Voxhumana (talk) 04:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Quite so. That is why pinkos call him Wall Street's rent-boy and wingnuts call him a socialist. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:55, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Clinton did not balance the budget.Fdof (talk) 07:26, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Obama used Keynesian economics to save the economy in 2009. It worked out well at first but now the gross federal debt is too large. It is 103% of the GDP. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 04:53, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

It was higher at the end of World War II. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:55, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes. FDR was the biggest spending president of all time. He took a $22.54 Billion national debt in 1933 and turned it into a $260.12 Billion national debt in 1945. It took 30 years to pay off the debt he created. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 04:59, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Um, yeah, and he thus laid the foundation for the US to become the dominant economy of the 20th century. Without the trade infrastructure (eg the highway network) he built, the US would not have had anywhere near the economic growth it had through the 50s and 60s. Government debt is a good thing when it underwrites a growth asset, as in FDR's case. Bad debt is a problem. You seem to have this simplistic view that "all debt is bad". It isn't, otherwise no-one would get mortgages on houses or borrow money to build factories. Voxhumana (talk) 05:05, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Gopvernment debt is very bad when is surpasses 100% of GDP. This has only happened in the USA under two president. FDR and Obama. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 05:15, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Indeed, he should have been more frugal fighting World War II. ТyrannisPlead 05:17, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
"Government debt is very bad when is surpasses 100% of GDP". Um, says who? That seems to be an arbitrary number, rather than one based on any economic logic. Why not 95% or 18% or 200%? Also in the other case where this >100% happened, the result was very good for America (much to the envy of every other country, such as Australia where I live). Voxhumana (talk) 05:22, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Public debt is a giant Ponzi scheme, of course, but as long as the debtor has a license to print the money with which to pay the creditor, there is a way out. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:30, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
It's not a Ponzi scheme, as a Ponzi scheme involves real capital, you're just lying about where the capital originally came from. Government debt (and especially intergovernmental debt) relies more on a wink and a nod, and a collective agreement to not think it all through too hard. Voxhumana (talk) 05:56, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

In my opinion, more money should be spent on the military. During the Cold War military spending was 7-10% of GDP. Now it is only 4-5% of GDP. To pay for this military buildup, social programs like Medicare and Food Stamps need to be cut. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 05:36, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Enough of this, you've crossed into obvious parodist territory. ТyrannisPlead 05:37, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

I wish this was a joke but it is not. China plans to build 3-5 aircraft carriers by 2025. There is going to be an arms race with China and the US must be ready. 24.189.254.24 (talk) 05:57, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Cool. Go and get yourself elected, and then you can fix everything. Voxhumana (talk) 05:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Speculation[edit]

Several sources say Romney has always been unpredictable. Is the reason for this because those who try to predict only ask where he can advance his career/make a difference? Perhaps they should ask where he has a chance to bully someone/people or at least defeat someone. This is far too speculative to put into the article but when Mitt's next move becomes clear I will ask myself, "Will anyone be defeated and suffer as a result of this whatever it is? Proxima Centauri (talk) 07:24, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Someone sign Proxima up as a Fox News contributor, because that's one of the shallowest, least thoughtful speculations I've ever read. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 07:53, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
errrr, Proxima...uhhh..what the hell? Senseless gibberish fit only in response to the moaning tones a fornicating elephant seal would make it it could speak English. Acei9 07:55, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Centrist?[edit]

The category defines "centrist" as someone who espouses "centrist/moderate/Third Way" ideas. Where do you see Romney doing this. You mentioned his flip-flops, but if anything, he flip-flopped from "severely conservative" to "plain old conservative," and even that is stretching it. Just like New York City; Just like Jericho. 15:23, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Well there was Romneycare... SophieWilder 15:31, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Which he divorced himself from. If we were in a time machine and writing this article about Governor Romney, I could maybe see it. But presidential candidate Romney, the guy who's speaking at CPAC? No way. Just like New York City; Just like Jericho. 15:32, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
If Romney is a centrist, then what does that make Obama? --Seth Peck (talk) 16:27, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
