Excellent out first WikiBot! - Icewedge 02:28, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
RW is finally hit puberty! tmtoulouse beleaguer 02:29, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
hahahaha. Can you change its edit comment from "test" to "pwned" or sumthin? humanbe in 02:36, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
It appears to be done, I assume it won't have much work to do anymore. A one time moment to shine. But ACD is now fun site wide. tmtoulouse beleaguer 02:59, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

ACD Bot - do yo do what I think you do?[edit]

Is your objective in life to turn all fun:refs to Fun:refs?

If so I have a Complaint against you. A quick check reveals a number of articles which still have red links to fun:sumthing. Among them are the following:

I have not fixed these in case you which to examine yourself for problems.--Bob's your uncle 06:53, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

And now "WTF" I see that our two top red links are fun:PI and fun:water. With fun:French and ACD Polar Bear coming in at 14 and 15. Again I won't touch them so that you can have a look at them.--Bob's your uncle 08:02, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Although I see that now some "fun:"'s (such as fun:Polar Bear) are being converted manually to "fun:"'s even as we watch.--Bob's your uncle 10:31, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Finger stuck on apostrophe? SJGsjg 10:37, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Quotation marks and apostrophes are slightly different my dear. Those who who live by pedantry shall die by pedantry. --Bob's your uncle 10:44, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Yes, but (she said pedantically) you don't need an apostrophe in (plural) ACDs - illiterate Spaniard - if you do it means "owned by ACD". So there! [known as "greengrocer's apostrophe" (as in "apple's £1.40/kg)] SJGsjg 10:55, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

I disagree. It is quite acceptable to put apostrophes to indicate plurals after initials. Please read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronym_and_initialism. So there. Death by pedantry indeed. --Bob's your uncle 11:19, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Liberal references cut no ice with me! The apostrophe protection society disagrees. [1] SJGsjg 11:28, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Furthermore Michael Swan's "Practical English Usage" ISBN 0 19 431197 x agrees with me that after capitalized acronyms an apostrophe "s" may be used. So there. --Bob's your uncle 11:37, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
ACD isn't an acronym, it's just a set of initials! & Fun isn't even an abbreviation. Wriggle out of that!!1!!1!11 SJGsjg 11:43, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Too easy!! Here is a definition of acronym from teh web:
  • An abbreviation of the first letters of a phrase or the long name of an organization that forms a word or conveys a message. In electronic communication or online documents, acronyms are used as writing shorthand or a method to communicate humor. Examples include IMHO (in my humble opinion), F2F (face-to-face), and WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). See http://www.marshall.edu/isp/ct107/emoticons.html for an online reference to frequently-used acronyms.

www.csus.edu/uccs/training/online/glossary.htm:

Furthermore

  • FUN is a well known acronym for: For Ur KNowledge.

--Bob's your uncle 11:59, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

"forms a word or conveys a message" ? SJGsjg 12:17, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Like IMHO and ACD. --Bob's your uncle 12:24, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Wriggle, wriggle, wriggle. SJGsjg 12:35, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
I have shown that: (1) It is quite acceptable to put apostrophes to indicate plurals after capitalized acronyms and (2) that the two items I used were acronyms. Your response is "Wriggle, wriggle, wriggle." Where can I go from here?--Bob's your uncle 12:48, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Just don't do it, it looks ugly & I don't like it. Please? SJGsjg 12:58, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Well I've given you two sources which say it's acceptable. Here's a third one from the Oxford Dictionary. Apostrophe .... sometimes used with "s" to form the plural of a letter a figure or an abbreviation. eg. ...."all the MP's". I'm really sorry you don't like it, but even using the most proscriptive version of grammar imaginable (something which I'm not that keen on anyway) it is acceptable. --Bob's your uncle 13:31, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Sorry the bot took me too literally I guess....wow our first bot and its a literalist. Anyway....I talked it over with him and I think he understands now, lets see if he figures it out. tmtoulouse beleaguer 11:09, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Kindly stop interrupting our rubbish with relevance!!¿±!¿ SJGsjg 11:34, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Looks like he's doing something.--Bob's your uncle 11:40, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
There were a couple glitches, it was 4am my time when I created him, but now I can say it is good. tmtoulouse beleaguer 11:46, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
4 am is a bad time to be cutting code. Was there beer involved?--Bob's your uncle 12:01, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
No beer, I haven't had any beer since RW went down on Monday or Tuesday or whenever it was. But protracted loss of sleep seems to create about the same thing as a few pints. tmtoulouse beleaguer 12:03, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Pints? Do you drink pints in the US? I thought that was a British pleasure?--Bob's your uncle 12:12, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
I am ex-pat now living in Canada, and Canada partakes in pints. tmtoulouse beleaguer 12:13, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Such power shouldn't be in the hands of one man. (It should be in the hands of one woman.) Index? SJGsjg 11:56, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
He's slow but persistent isn't he?--Bob's your uncle 12:00, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
He is slow on purpose, I don't think anyone would be too happy about the site slowing down to a crawl for users so the bot can index the site quickly.....but he is faster than a human and doesn't get bored.....yet..... tmtoulouse beleaguer 12:02, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Busy chap, isn't he? I had no idea there were ACD links in those articles.--Bob's your uncle 12:14, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
He will ferret them out where so ever they hide....it is his raison d'être. The existential angst in store for him when he is done though.... tmtoulouse beleaguer 12:16, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

<--Where's the piano bar? Does he take requests? Does he take American change?CЯacke® 12:22, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

I've checked some of his edits and they look good. The only known cure for existential angst is beer isn't it?--Bob's your uncle 12:23, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
He accepts denominations of $50 and $100 bills, he does not give change. I am not sure we want to get ACDBot drunk...he has potential to do some impressive pwnage. tmtoulouse beleaguer 12:25, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Dude, Mr. Bot didn't write his own user page. His castle has been violated! VirileSterileblah, blah, blah 12:32, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
He gave his permission tmtoulouse beleaguer 12:33, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
May I block him when he's finished? Genghis Khant 13:05, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
After all his hard work? Bring him in, get him to do a bunch of stuff no one else wants to do then block him? You must be channeling TK. tmtoulouse beleaguer 13:09, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
He(?) just wandalized an Archive page where "ACD" wasn't even a link. I think we've let him get away with too much already.

In a little bit he will write a message on my talk page returning an error code.......once that is done feel free to take your revenge. tmtoulouse beleaguer 15:26, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

hide bot edits[edit]

doesn't work on my watchlist? Or on recent changes. humanbe in 15:24, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Cause his edits are not counted as bot edits cause I never got around to setting that up, I figured "minor" would be enough to hide them. tmtoulouse beleaguer 15:26, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
I like to keep an eye on minors, just in case they's wandals. Can you set up the hide bot edits thing so it works as expected? Thankies... humanbe in 15:35, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
