Religion template[edit]

Good idea. Thanks for that. ConcernedResident omg ponies!!! 09:43, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

I myself would have prefered a bottom-template, like the "Guide to the bible" template or the "Intelligent Design" template, as it's much easier to work with. Oh well, not my call. I just do what I can to make sure it's posted where it needs to be.IAMELIPHAS (talk) 10:32, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Do us a favour: take it easy on the Americanisations, there. There's a whole lot o' Brits & Aussies & Newzeeeeeelanders on here, ya know. Friends.gif 12:17, 19 July 2010 (UTC) SusanG Toast
Actually I believe I am only one of two Kiwis here, anyways - cheers IAMELIPHAS. You doing some good work. AceX-102 21:13, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't know any better. My spell check picked them up as errors so I thought they were. Oh well, no harm done, and I will avoid said mistake in the future. IAMELIPHAS (talk) 17:40, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Tom Woods[edit]

Check out Wiki's page on him. He's a multi-talented crank. I've been following the antics of the Rockwell-ians for years and Woods is deep in that camp -- neo-Confederate, Austrian school, hardcore goldbuggery, etc. (Angry Bear has a good takedown of his asinine Depression of 1920 paper and the man has never read Friedman and Schwartz, needless to say). I was actually unaware of the Dark Ages thing until now. Is it is as bad as his other nonsense? Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 17:24, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

You'd have to see his books (The Church and the Market, How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization, and The Church Confronts Modernity), but I would imagine yes. Granted, I haven't had the stomach to read them myself, but I do however know that Catholic State-pushers on youtube (and elsewhere) frequently site these books (especially that 2nd one) whenever you bring up the Dark Ages to them, and/or why a "Catholic State" will not lead us to a golden age. The other ones they always bring up are Rodney Starke's books. IAMELIPHAS (talk) 18:34, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Huh, it seems like there's no idea too reactionary for the Rockwell-ians (see also stoning proponent Gary North). Do you have any material/reviews on Woods' Dark Ages related stuff? I'm not really up on the Catholic State stuff, but I say that because, having read Woods' neo-Confederate negationism, it's tough to write it off as your usual racist kookery that comes from them. He actually does, I think, make a few good points, although that's buried under mountains of pseudo-scholarship and massive (or maybe selective, I should say) ignorance of case law and history, so I'm loathe to categorize him as your average "Damn Yankee!" neo-Confederate but he is definitely a crank nonetheless. I guess my point is that it's worth looking into it more to see whether or not it's just a load of PRATTs. (Also, you should check out LRC for more context on where his politics are coming from, but really do it for the lulz of crank watching. And yes, they've got everything, from Pearl Harbor conspiracy theories and AIDS denial to nature woo quackery and creationism.) Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 19:12, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately no. I've not been able to find ANY real reviews on his Dark Age/Catholicism related stuff. I've had a hard enough time finding stuff for Rodney Stark's books, and for that I've only found two. The only thing I've found for TW though are either glowing reviews from the sheeple and sites selling his books. then again my Googling skills suck. I'm guessing you'd have better luck than I would. IAMELIPHAS (talk) 19:46, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Interview with him on LRC that might be of interest. Apparently he also has a "Catholic defense of the free market." I also found this page, which links to some written debates between Woods and critics. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 23:14, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
