Careful stubbot - don't double stub articles! What's your limit (char count that is)? SJGsjg 14:24, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
- Did it double stub something? Its set at <300 = VSA and 300-1200 = STUB. tmtoulouse nettle 16:08, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
- Not that I know - I was pre-emptively striking SJGsjg 16:18, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
- It's programmed with a headache inducing series of nested if, else if, else statements that should prevent that.....but bots are literal bastards and never obey the "spirit of the law" just the "letter of the law." tmtoulouse nettle 16:20, 17 September 2007 (EDT)

Question for the bot/creator. If an article the stubbot marked becomes an acceptable length, will stubbot remove the stub tag (and possibly VSA cat)? Or is that up to inferior humans? ThunderkatzHo! 17:02, 17 September 2007 (EDT) p.s. I for one welcome our new machine overlords.
- Okay, the bot will now remove VSA and stub from files that are bigger than the cut offs, but this is only in the main space, these will need to be removed manually if the article is instead moved to fun. tmtoulouse nettle 18:09, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
- Don't suppose you'd like to put the code somewhere we can read it? Just for interest's sake. SJGsjg 18:15, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
- Its not commented but sure. tmtoulouse nettle 18:37, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
- Here is a copy of the main source code. It is written in perl...keep in mind I am not a perl programmer, in fact I never worked with perl till 2 days ago so the structure may be a bit basic. tmtoulouse nettle 18:50, 17 September 2007 (EDT)

Comment[edit]
First of all, stubbot is doing an awesome job. However, because it adds cats to articles, many of the new articles (which were created without any cats of their own) now do not appear on the list of uncat'd pages, even though their only cat is Articles Needing Expansion/VSA. Is there a way around this? As an idea, could it check for a category, and if no category is found, give it the category of <filler category>, which would let people know that though it doesn't appear on the list, it needs a real cat. The only other way I could think of was if ANE/VSA could somehow be modified so that the uncat'd articles list ignores them when they appear. Except for that one point, awesome job. ThunderkatzHo! 15:12, 21 September 2007 (EDT) p.s. I should add that 1) this is not very important, and 2) this is probably too lengthy a comment.
- I could conceivably do a cat check and put on a "needs more categorizing" category on the article........if we really think its needed. I guess I would say that VSA articles need immediate attention through being moved, deleted, or expanded, and that recating should await those decisions. Is it worth cating a VSA article? tmtoulouse nettle 13:08, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- Good point. Like I said, it's not very important, it's just something I noticed and decided to comment on. Most of my ideas recently seem to be solutions to non-problems. Currently, I'm developing a plan of what to do if zombies ever take over... ThunderkatzHo! 21:13, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- What makes you think they haven't? Susantalk to me 21:23, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- Mock not the risk of zombies, I have fully digested and internalized several of the major works in this area. I am ever vigilant and prepared for the coming onslaught.... tmtoulouse nettle 21:37, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
Question[edit]
Why is this bot impersonating me? Locke Always Watching...... 23:17, 13 October 2007 (EDT)
A couple of comments[edit]
This bot removed a stub from an article but the editing comment said it added a stub mark/VSA category link. You might want to clarify that.
Second, you might want to show the current settings for when an article is stubbed/VSA'd on the userpage for this bot. Pear 22:03, 20 July 2008 (EDT)
- Agreed, is it based on a character count or something else? Does it run everyday? That's what it looked like from what I saw on its reports, are there other error codes it gives if something is wrong? I could watch the report page if you let me know what to look for. Stubbot might have a bug: http://rationalwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=The_Men_Who_Stare_at_Goats&curid=89049&diff=435928&oldid=435503 ħuman 04:57, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- It's case sensitive. I'd fix it but I don't know where stubbot is. -- Nx / talk 08:36, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Double Stub[edit]
Hello, It's not exactly necessary to stub an already stubbed article. Most people understand that it's a stub when they see that it is in the stub category, and if it transcludes the stub template. --Sigma 7 (talk) 19:05, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- It is not really designed to add double stubs but sometimes it happens. I haven't gone back an reworked the bot in a while, and the switch to .org killed it and I only just realized now so hasn't been doing anything for a couple months. tmtoulouse 20:14, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Cheers, I think I found the bug. tmtoulouse 20:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Why is stubbot removing WP links?[edit]
What changed with Stubbot that it's removing the WP links? Is this new policy or something? A number of them have already been reverted by sysops, etc. This doesn't even seem within the scope of what Stubbot should be doing, based on the name... --Eira OMTG!
