Candace Owens vs. Ben Shapiro[edit]

— Unsigned, by: LuodiWang / talk / contribs

  1. It's still idiotic internet drama.
  2. On talk pages, please sign your comments using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the sign button: SigButt.png on the toolbar above the edit panel. You can also indent successive talk page comments using one more colon (:) for each line. Thank you. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 20:57, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
  1. We added the feud between Candace Owens and Tomi Lahren. Why not the feud between Owens and Shapiro? It seems like a double standard to add the feud with Tomi ::#Lahren but not the one with Ben Shapiro.
  2. If you think this is internet drama (which it is) why don't you delete the section about Tomi Lahren? User:LuodiWang/sig 17:08, 31 May 2018 (ET)
  1. "we" didn't add anything since you hadn't registered an account yet.
  2. You still aren't signing your comments properly, all you did was copy/paste my sig and the sign template, poorly I might add.
  3. While I do not necessarily agree with the Owens/Laren section existing I did note that it didn't read like a Facebook post between gossiping teenagers. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 21:26, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
  1. We need to update our page on Candace Owens.
  2. It's way too short so far and all I did was add new information. LuodiWang (talk) 17:46, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Three things, One: you're still blatantly copy/pasting the sign template and my user signature. Two: the article isn't a one sentance stub in danger of deletion, Owens just isn't as prolific in her insanity as her current employer Alex Jones. Three: defending a very poorly written entry with "Well the article is short, so..." isn't really helping your case. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 21:43, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
  1. Understood. Thank you for your time.

Substance vs drama[edit]

@LeftyGreenMario I've noticed this page has begun resemble a rather poorly formatted (just look at the refs and several non-refed links) list of Twitter drama. Where is the documentation of actual events, such as when she accused the Washington Post of smearing her in an article that everyone involved (including her) admitted didn't exist? ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 00:23, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Yes, @GrammarCommie, the references are awful looking. Unfortunately this is not so unusual for non-brainstarred articles. The "greatest hits" section is TLDR as far as I'm concerned: it should be weeded & organized better. Who cares that she was arrested (that reference links to an awful video, FFS + TLDR)? A person can get arrested for jaywalking in the US by a racist cop, believe it or not. Bongolian (talk) 03:54, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
@Bongolian That would more or less be my point, the article in its current state is just throwing mud, not stating facts or debunking nonsense. And again, Owens has plenty of nonsense to debunk, but almost none of it is mentioned in this article. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 03:59, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
I do agree about the article. I don't know how I didn't notice the ping earlier. I would've asked for the "greatest hits" section to be written in prose format. The arresting part is irrelevant unless it's related to her political activities (like she's arrested for harassing her political opponents). Anyhow, is there a rewrite template we can put to that page?
P.S. "ITS current state". Edit: Thank you. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 21:12, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
I have corrected the typos. In addition to re-writing the "greatest hits" section I would also recommend expanding on the section concerning her backround, since the rather complex and tragic story has a bit more to it than the two dismissive sentences let on. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 21:20, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
It seems that Bongolian has added the "needs goat" template. I'm not sure what that's all about, and it looks like clown garb with bright neon blue and red, so my offended aesthetic sense in me told me, remove it. I also agree with that her victim of racism in high school needs to be discussed. I think those "biggest hits" need to show her actual words, with the needed context of course rather than a simple interpretation. Show, don't tell. Like about the welfare thing, her own words make very little sense, so we don't need to really impose our own bloggy commentary. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 21:28, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Encyclopedia Dramatica has already made an article about Candace Owens. Aside from the outright bigotry in the article, it mentions several facts that we never discussed about her. For starters, do any of you know who Tree of Logic is? I don’t think we’ve discussed her on this page, or even this entire website. LuodiWang (talk) 21:57, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Model the article after ED?!?! Fuck no!!! ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 22:05, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
I’m not saying that we should. All I’m saying is that it’s completely embarrassing that ED is outdoing us in terms of writing about who Candace Owens is. LuodiWang (talk) 22:15, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
ED is notorious for outright lying, as well as having a significant overlap with the types of people that form GamerGate's troll army. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 22:23, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Oh ok. Still, Candace’s biography should still be more than a few sentences. LuodiWang (talk) 22:25, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────@LeftyGreenMario I've just finished expanding the section concerning the SocialAutopsy Twitter shitstorm if you'd like to have a look and give me some feedback. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 18:06, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Looks good to me! LuodiWang (talk) 21:23, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
@GrammarCommie I think it's fine, the writing is good and I learned a bit more about her. Good work. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 04:46, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Misrepresentations[edit]

One edit by @LuodiWang seems to misrepresent Candace Owens's views.

  • Edit: "She thinks that victims of sexual assault aren't 'real rape victims.'"
  • The actual tweet: "Biggest problem with the #metoo movement is that it turned sexual assault into a trend and simultaneously drowned out the voices of real rape victims— who deserve to be heard."

It's misleading to interpret it that way. Owens seems to be criticizing how the #MeToo movement is just "trendy" and distracts from the "real" issue. In fact, the next point ("She thinks the #MeToo movement cheapens female survivors of rape.") more accurately characterizes that statement, though it's still not ideal. I'm really concerned about the possibility of other misrepresentations like that. Yes, Owens is kind of conkers, but let's go after her actual arguments, not this. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 22:16, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

I agree, which means we'll need to A)lock the article and B) compare the bullet points and tweets one by one. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 22:22, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for correcting me, comrades! Since we're going to be editing the page, I suggest that we start by adding citations. For example, when did she ever say that she thought that "black-on-black crime is a myth"? From my point of view, Owens has not only been saying the opposite of that, but she has also been justifying police brutality with "the black genocide that goes on in Chicago at the hands of other blacks" (her words, not mine). https://twitter.com/realcandaceo/status/1004411332022525955?lang=en LuodiWang (talk) 01:15, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
You seem correct here. She appears to be deflecting from the real issue of racist police brutality to focus on black-on-black crime, and even then, I'm skeptical of that because racists often get mixed up between crime committing rates and getting punished rates. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 18:09, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. It would be great if you could add it to the page. LuodiWang (talk) 18:38, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
I can't right now for the time being, so just letting you know. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 21:36, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
Oh, ok. LuodiWang (talk) 23:51, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Stance on welfare[edit]

According to Candace, Democrats are hypocrites for being worried for kids in literal concentration camps because they... support welfare benefits for single mothers? It makes just as much sense in context.https://twitter.com/RealCandaceO/status/1008343903777558529 Anyways, Candace doesn't seem to mind the fact that the largest Republican-friendly corporations receive FAR more welfare than single mothers. LuodiWang (talk) 16:47, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
It sounds more like she doesn't like undocumented immigrants by using the snarl word "illegals" (how much I hate that word), but it's weird she's conflating single motherhood to that. Overall, her tweet doesn't make sense to me. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 18:13, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
We should add it to her "greatest hits" section. In addition, the section about her feud with Ben Shapiro needs RWification. LuodiWang (talk) 18:38, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
I think that section should probably be split into more standard "what kinds of political views she has" sort of thing, in prose. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 20:28, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Identity politics[edit]

When called out for her hypocrisy on Twitter, Candace Owens reacted by claiming she was being attacked for her race. https://twitter.com/RealCandaceO/status/1008789785685712897 https://twitter.com/RealCandaceO/status/1008798050431717377 https://twitter.com/RealCandaceO/status/1008801733718544386 LuodiWang (talk) 23:55, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

BUT OBAMA!![edit]

Candace Owens blames Barack Obama for the fact that Trump is literally holding kids in cages. Seriously. https://twitter.com/RealCandaceO/status/1008827090635034625 LuodiWang (talk) 23:55, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Sort of. It's more accurate to say that she's deflecting by saying "but Obama was anti-immigrant zero-tolerance first" kind of thing. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 00:03, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Transphobia[edit]

Listing her as alt-Right[edit]

Why is she beeing listed as alt-right in the introduction? While she seems to be a full blown wingnut, non of her points seem to fall outside the bounds of traditional far right nuttery and into the alt-rights openly race based white nationalism. This seems to just muddy the water on what that term means further.

That's what I was thinking. I don't think that she should be in the alt-right section. Probably alt-lite at least? TheEOE (talk) 19:20, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
No, she's definitely alt-right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S2TZOdXAtQ LuodiWang (talk) 20:01, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

No. No, that is definitly alt-lite, bordering on straight up normal conservatism. Saying that racism is not really a big issue and should be ignored might be wrong, but it is a far cry from the alt-rights fixation on race and crys for eugenics or segregated ethnostates. In a way i would argue it is the opposite. Seriously, if you think THAT is what the alt right looks like you really, desperatly, need to get perspective.— Unsigned, by: Inuken / talk / contribs

@LuodiWang I don't think making remarks about the European immigration crisis and view Muslims negatively automatically makes you alt-right TheEOE (talk) 21:27, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
I'm guessing that you've never heard of the Eurabia conspiracy theory before. You should take a look at RationalWiki's page on it. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Eurabia LuodiWang (talk) 15:11, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
I have, but I wouldn't categorize anyone who believes in it as "alt-right". Just believing in a ridiculous conspiracy theory fueled by over-paranoia. TheEOE (talk) 18:34, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
A ridiculous, bizarrely racist conspiracy theory that happens to coincide heavily with being a genocidal fuck? I don't even understand the technicality you're trying to carve out here. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 18:49, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I know that Eurabia is incredibly stupid, but I'm saying that anyone that's dumb enough to believe is not automatically alt-right. To say that is kind of a non-sequitur. TheEOE (talk) 19:33, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Is this alt-right enough for you? https://www.reddit.com/r/ToiletPaperUSA/comments/95685s/candace_owens_becomes_a_fullblown_neonazi/ LuodiWang (talk) 23:11, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
@LuodiWang Beware of confirmation bias. I don't know a lot about Owens but I looked up those tweets. The first screenshot leaves out the part that says she swapped out the word "white" for "black" in statements by Sarah Jeong. The tweet in the second screenshot has been deleted but appears to be the same thing (compare Owens' tweet to these tweets by Jeong).
(Edit) The tweet in the second screenshot was archived and has the same disclaimer. CowHouse (talk) 01:40, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
@LuodiWang Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was her trying to parrot and mock Sarah Jeong for her recent controversial tweets. TheEOE (talk) 03:00, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
@TheEOE Whoops, my bad! I didn't know about the context behind the tweets. Nevertheless, I still think she's alt-right, given the fact that she's pro-Gamergate. LuodiWang (talk) 19:48, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Tree of Logic?[edit]

Okay I am historically an enemy of Rational Wiki so I have no real right to tell you how to do things. We both don't like each other, though for what its worth (which is nothing) I have grown to respect a lot of Rational Wiki's content about right wing A-holes like Stefan Molyneaux and Ayn Rand and General Pinochet, even if I still dislike the butt kissing of Anita Sarkeesian and Rebecca Watson.

Still I feel that this article misses out one of the worst things about Candace, that she isn't left or right. She is a self serving bullshitter and a liar who goes where the money is. Tree of Logic's videos for instance which I'll post a link to here, as well as videos by April Reigne show how she really doesn't care about anything she says.

I'm amazed that Tree of Logic's expose of her wasn't mentioned AT ALL. Is it just because Rational Wiki doesn't like Tree as she is right wing? IMO it doesn't matter who says it. Tree's videos take her apart.

See here.

Twitter feuds[edit]

I'm thinking about nuking the two sections documenting Twitter feuds. I fail to see why they matter to the overall article. Got a problem with that view? bring it here. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 20:22, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

@GrammarCommie It turns out that Candace Owens might be suffering from serious and untreated mental illnesses. https://bernardmedia.org/2018/08/13/candace-owens-lives-rent-free-in-3500-apartment-claims-toxic-mold-infestation-caused-her-illness-sues-landlord-legal-documents-show/ LuodiWang (talk) 16:04, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
@LuodiWang And this is relevant to the Twitter equivalent of a shouting match how exactly?? Really, you need to understand that this isn't some tabloid site where we dig up someone's porn videos and post them on the web for "the lulz". No, we are trying to be the wiki equivalent of the major fact checking sites. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 01:02, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
@GrammarCommie I think it’s important that we incorporate Bernard Media’s article about Candace into her RationalWiki page because it outlines her hypocrisy on rent-free housing. It also reveals that Candace might be suffering from cognitive disfunction, which would explain her unhinged rants. LuodiWang (talk) 15:30, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
@LuodiWang Again, how does that relate to whether or not her Twitter feuds are worth documenting? Actually answer the damn question. How is it relevant? Why should we document her Twitter feuds? If you can't defend them, then they get the axe. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 17:26, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
@GrammarCommie We've documented other people's Twitter drama before. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Laura_Loomer#Twitter_drama LuodiWang (talk) 19:18, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

@LuodiWang I'm a little bit uncomfortable accusing someone of suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness. We should try to avoid indulging in armchair psychology. RoninMacbeth (talk) 15:47, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
@Ikanreed Are you stating that you agree with my edits or that you disagree? Or that you think I should have cut more content? Your last post makes it a little hard to tell sorry. (I'm also still waking up and processing coffee so that might also be part of my confusion.) ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 17:44, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
@RoninMacbeth Okay, but Candace Owens herself is claiming to have “suffered emotional distress” and “suffered pain and loss of enjoyment”, so we should at least acknowledge the possibility that she might be suffering from serious and untreated mental illnesses, especially considering that she was exposed to toxic mold, which can in fact cause intensive cognitive disfunction. https://bernardmedia.org/2018/08/13/candace-owens-lives-rent-free-in-3500-apartment-claims-toxic-mold-infestation-caused-her-illness-sues-landlord-legal-documents-show/ We should also take note of how Candace Owens refused to pay her rent, despite the fact that she is opposed to socialism. Furthermore, we should also talk about the likely possibility that Candace Owens will be fired from TPUSA for politicizing a murder victim. https://bernardmedia.org/2018/08/24/candace-owens-doubles-down-on-politicizing-murder-victim-likely-to-be-fired-from-tpusa/ LuodiWang (talk) 20:14, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I'd rather we tread very cautiously when it comes to mental problems, even if the claims to have them. Still, I don't believe her as I think she, a pathological liar, using it as an excuse to shirk responsibility for the crap she's said (she doesn't seem like she's sorry for her unhinged rants) as well as marginalizing those who do have those problems. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 20:24, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
@LeftyGreenMario There's also the fact that @LuodiWang tends to use poor sourcing and arguments in their edits. (see above when they tried to use the mold story to justify keeping the Twitter feud sections.) ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 22:52, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

Not a fan of the huge bullet list[edit]

It needs to be put into prose format. Or, the article should be organized by viewpoint and we have each "greatest hit" be relocated to those sections. But either way, I don't want list format, reminds me way too much of Conservaoedia's love for bullet points. We should add a section that talks about her feud with Ted Lieu: https://twitter.com/cspan/status/1115674439843291136 https://twitter.com/cspan/status/1115674485699616769 LuodiWang (talk) 00:08, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

No sign of Holocaust denial[edit]

Whoever linked Owens' second quote (on the top of the main page) to Holocaust denial must have a second-grade level of reading comprehension. -_- Owens only claimed that Hitler was a national socialist and that he was a globalist (by her standards). Even if her statement is silly, it's not really Holocaust denial. If this harmless comment has made you butthurt, please prove to me how butthurt you are by deleting it and blocking me. Then, go cry in your bedroom. Tigerlord (talk) 02:58, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

@Tigerlord I'll address your two points inversely, mainly because I can and I want to. Firstly, that quote, which I assume is from Owens, is quite childish and simplistic. It is, in essence "If I am causing you pain, satisfy my perverse desire to see you in pain or be banished from my sight." What an arrogant and simplistic worldview. Secondly, the quote is her defending German Nationalism during the early twentieth century, while leaving out a few key details such as the holocaust. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 03:22, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
ComradeGC, that's not really Holocaust denial, is it? That's more like cherrypicking examples to support her argument. Admittedly, cherrypicking is still pretty bad, but conflating it with Holocaust denial is downright silly. Tigerlord (talk) 00:43, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
@Tigerlord Yes and no. It's denial in that it tries to wipe away the Holocaust along with Germany's other sins. It's not specifically Holocaust denial in that it doesn't specifically mention the Holocaust per se. Again, in the quote she's lying by omitting or downplaying the crimes of Nazi Germany, which infamously include the Holocaust. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 00:53, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
@GrammarCommie I very much disagree with you regarding that statement. As someone who is Jewish, I can confirm that what Candace was doing is in no way denying the Holocaust, but simply not including it in her discussion, as while it was a horrible event, it was not relevant in the discussion of whether Candace thought that Nationalism was a bad term or not. Ethan Parmet (talk) 21:47, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
At most charitable, she's unwittingly engaged in softcore Holocaust denial. I find it really hard otherwise to grant benefit of doubt to a record grifter, but I think it's not good look at all that Hitler's goals are first and best known by the Holocaust. To call it "well, Hitler wanted to make everyone German" (which is a horrific downplay of a fascist no matter how you interpret that) is just borderline flirting with that subject. I don't see how that's not relevant, nationalism (undoubtedly white nationalism) certainly fueled the motives of killing millions of people to promote white supremacy. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 23:34, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Coronavirus pandemic[edit]

There has got to be a section (or at least additions to the bullet points) on her reckless coronavirus response. Even Wikipedia has done a better job. She has mocked coronavirus victims in the U.S. and has said that the pandemic is just a liberal "doomsday cult" (see this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/01/us/politics/hannity-limbaugh-trump-coronavirus.html).

Truly tragic and anti-science reaction from this right-wing troll. — Unsigned, by: 69.158.129.99 / talk 12:23, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Here is more updates Candace Owens was called out in a COVID-19 rumor and this was when she was denied a COVID-19 test in a clinic. But Owens went batshit crazy in her rants.2601:640:C681:C260:286C:FD6E:9DD6:8AD3 (talk) 00:04, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
That story ^^^^ made this Unit fall about laughing; after years of denying that racism was a significant problem Owens then played the “Is it coz I is black?” card. To which world+dog responded “No, it’s because you’re a [“foolish person” – The Invigilator]”. Mr Larrington (talk) 12:40, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
