- Welcome Teresita! I remember you - I had just joined CP right before you and TK had a disagreement and he was all rude to you in IRC and didn't want to apologize when Andy told him to - I was sorry to see you leave CP, I didn't know then that I would eventually leave too. Anyway - welcome! It's nice to see more females here (are we up to 4 now?) lol -- Refugeetalk page 14:25, 14 August 2007 (CDT)

Mop + Bucket + Checklist[edit]
I am sorry, I didn't mean to sound hostile. What I was trying to say is that you are now a Bureaucrat, which means... well... if you can figure that out, tell me. Have a good day, and bridgespeed! ĵ₳¥ášÇ♠ʘ curating magmas!
- Okay, sorry I took it wrong. You labeled the thing "Oh dear" and said something about a mop and bucket replacing my mop and bucket, as if someone needed to clean after me, and then I saw something about getting a demotion. A comedy of errors. Teresita 00:36, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
Guantanamo Bay / Concentration Camp[edit]
Is it really worth giving up on Rationalwiki over this? Why not discuss it further and agree to some kind of compromise, as other editors are suggesting? I just went to put the image on the Guantanamo Bay entry instead, only to fimd that you'd deleted it. Frankly I think you are being quite unreasonable about this. Threatening to leave is no way to persuade people to your point of view. weaseLOId~ 17:25, 28 September 2008 (EDT)

- Who's impersonating Aschlafly?
- Kels! How could you?! I thought we were lovers!

Okay, let me just get this out and then you can hate or ignore me or whatever you want. I didn't post that up to vandalize or make you remember traumatic events or whatever. I was just doing the standard lighthearted banter that goes on all over the site on a regular basis, in response to someone's Intercom message encouraging us to show you that you weren't unwanted. I don't hate you for anything, I'm not your enemy, but I do feel a bit put out to be immediately accused of "shitting" on your talk page. Hope that clears things up a little. --Kels 22:20, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
Welcome[edit]
Hi Teresita, I think people get excited to see an old face and forget that you are probably almost as unfamiliar with all the many subtleties and changes to RW as a brand new user. Please take a look at RationalWiki:Newcomers at your leisure, I have gone ahead and promoted you back up to a regular user. If at anytime you decide you want and are ready for another round of demotions contact anyone and it will be arranged. Glad to have you aboard. tmtoulouse 19:47, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- Thank you. Under no circumstances will I ask for any powers associated with sysop or bureaucrat in the future, and indeed I did not ask for them recently. I have made enemies through my blundering and I cannot forgive myself for doing that. Teresita 19:49, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- No problem, it is at your discretion certainly, we are very "loose" around here with admin powers, we like to give them to everyone as a way of emphasizing the fact that "sysops" are not "better users" or "more important." The criteria for sysopship has been loosely defined as "mostly harmless" and is handed out to all for the asking. How that is perceived at large and by the users affected varies. We will certainly respect your wishes on this, however they may fall. Anyway, not to belabor any of this, I am going to go back to poking around in my corners :). tmtoulouse 19:54, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- I don't think you've made enemies, Teresita, we don't hold grudges or remember slights, most of which are caused through misunderstanding. The talk page thing: we regard all talk pages as community property. If you ferret around, you'll find occasions where long (30kb!) discussions have gone on on someone's talk page with no input from the titular owner. So we like to preserve these for posterity. We're small enough that "Recent changes" or a "Watchlist" can keep us in touch with what's going on, so you'll often find third parties sticking their noses in to conversations too. - Everything was going great, I was having a good time, then I looked at the log and saw this block:
- 16:37, 26 September 2008 SusanG (Talk | contribs) blocked Teresita (Talk | contribs) with an expiry time of 271 sec. ( about 4½ minutes) (account creation disabled) (Practise your janitorial duties)
- No explanation, no nothing. All the air went out of my balloon, and I realized I was being fucked with. Then the Gitmo thing happened. So now all I'm going to do is keep my head down and write articles, and I'm sure as hell ain't in a friendly mood anymore. Teresita 21:32, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- Wait, you got blocked for e minutes, and it mattered to you??? Hell, I get blocked all the time... ħuman 01:07, 29 September 2008 (EDT)
- Really sorry about that, I'd just sysopped you & it's the standard sysop's welcome - gives them practice unblocking. I assumed you'd been lurking around a long time & would know what I was talking about. I'm really, really sorry. ContribsTalk 21:41, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- Friendly blocks are pretty much standard operating procedure around here. Kinda like noogies in highschool. That's why we like it--I can even block the damn wiki's owner for the sheer joy of it. PFoster 21:35, 28 September 2008 (EDT)

Ah, landscaping. All slowly coming to a halt while I desperately try to install a new hot water system and new heating system while the "lows" hover around 45 F. Anyway, you barely turned back up... who pissed you off, I'll get them killed. Oh, wait, no, we don't do that. - There's a brief respite, a sort of early Indian Summer up here in Seattle, but I hurried up and got everything done, so the sun is there only to taunt me. Meanwhile I poured my ego into this place, if one can be said to be "in" a website. One gets immersed. Teresita 21:55, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, fall is fun. The ground is soft, there's that last mowing to do, and move all the summer shit inside off the parking lot in anticipation of snow (well, here, anyway). But anyway, why did you get so pissed over at Gitmo, the article? We all have places where we don't "get our way", and mostly we just "move on".org, as they say. ħuman 23:55, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- The sequence of events was like this: 1) I was happily cruising along all weekend, writing some serious articles and some jokey ones. 2) I realized after the fact that I got a block, and a message to practice mopping something up, which I didn't understand, but I thought it something about me making a mess. 3) As a wry joke, I posted an image of a compound in Guantanamo Bay for the Concentration camp article. 4) Someone reverted the article to remove the image. I reverted it back, because that is something I expect from Conservapedia, just like the earlier block. I said if the image goes, I will go also. 5) They called my bluff, so I proceeded to wind up my affairs on RatWiki. 6) After thinking about things for a bit, I decided not to go. I deleted the original image, and I lined out all my language about "taking my ball and going home" on the Concentration camp talk page, and then I started to delete the references to the affair on my own talk page. 7) My talk page was reverted by two or three different people every time I attempted to clean it up. This by itself completely outweighed any hassle with the block or the image. At the time I did not know I had no control over my own talk page. I settled for archiving it and starting this fresh one, and of course some people I don't even know decided to come in and scratch on it like a bathroom wall. Teresita 00:11, 29 September 2008 (EDT)
- Gotcha. I came late to this. I saw the "strikeouts" you mentioned, your explanation clears that up. I hope you now understand what happened was mostly just a joyful "welcome back", and the common practice now of sysoping (demoting, handing a mop and bucket to) anyone we trust even slightly. ħuman 00:30, 29 September 2008 (EDT)

So....[edit]
I'm not here to argue about the Gitmo thing--as Susan said, we tend to be pretty good about sweeping stuff under the rug, although, that being said, I wish you'd taken the time to argue with me a little bit. But I can only assume that your reticence to do so--and your obvious commitment to the relationship between Gitmo and the idea of the concentration camp that you wanted to draw out--came from some strong beliefs...I respect that immensely, even if I disagree with you on the specifics in this case. You do excellent work around here; I'm really glad you've decided to stay. PFoster 20:30, 28 September 2008 (EDT)

- I went to your "mission" statement, and it says we don't write articles about Paris unless it has to do with rationality or its lack. My article about Linux has to do with the suppression of an operating system by monopoly power without regard to its merits, but apparently you don't think that is part of our mission, and I won't belabor the point. Unfortunately I'm not a sysop so I can't even delete the article. Teresita 14:25, 29 September 2008 (EDT)
- I wouldn't worry too much, Teresita. This isn't CP. Add what YOU think is valuable to users, you are part of the community. I've never seen a (real) page removed once it's written, even if it has nothing what so ever to do with anything "rationalwiki" claims as "goals", because this really is a wiki in a true sense that you are an editor of a community and have as much say in what you want. :-) I don't see anyone trying to haze you, and it's bad that communication has failed in such a way you feel picked on. I know i can be pretty much "rush in and change what I don't like", and people will either let it go if they don't care, or say "hey, don't do that" and revert it, if they do. I try not to take it personally either way. --En attendant Godot"«I don't think in any language. I think in images. V.Nabokov» 15:00, 29 September 2008 (EDT)
- Thank you for taking the time to put your thoughts here. It's a little bit like the difference between pain and pleasure. The same nerve signals which the brain interprets as exquisite pleasure during lovemaking will be interpreted as excruciating pain during a sexual assault. It all has to do with the attitude one has when one undergoes the experience, and if for some reason love switches over to an assault, even renewed gestures of love will be interpreted as violence for a long time.
