Thank You--TimS 09:17, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Could you give me a hint to fix my signature? Thanks. Pete PalMD 09:56, 22 May 2007 (CDT)
Hi, just wanted to drop by and say thanks again for having me. Flippin 12:22, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Templates for essay layouts?

Trent do you want to establish a format for the debunking of claims? For instance:

Claim: Evolution is unfalsifiable.
Counters:
Sources:
Publications:

Do you also want some generic articles for background information? For example an article explaining how Cl- can cause a cascade reaction with ozone to be used for debunking claims about global warming? If so then should we have a generic format for the layout of these pages?

--TimS 10:50, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

URL stuff

Not sure if this falls into your area, but the main page lists you as the guy to poke about extensions and mods. Could we get the shorter URLs back? So we can go to http://www.rationalwiki.com/Main_Page instead of http://www.rationalwiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page and such? I only got here late because my "Recent Changes" bookmark kept giving me 404s (I later noticed the announcement on the CPColumn blog, so I tried just the domain and went "Ohhhh"). --Sid 17:57, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Re: Instant Messaging

Yep, I use IRC, which allows personal messages of two descriptions, I use Jabber, I use AIM, I use Yahoo, and I might use others, but I forget. Why? --Linus M. 18:11, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Sure. --Linus(Plot evil tech) 18:19, 22 May 2007 (CDT)
Trent, I want this project to work very badly. I can't wait to help. Until then, off to write for law journals. "Godspeed" :-P. Oh, can I be a sysop, once we reach 10,000 articles?-AmesG 19:18, 22 May 2007 (CDT)
Thanks dude! As soon as my journal's done, you know where I'll be. Well, I'll probably be at work. But after that. Well, you get the point.-AmesG 19:55, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Essays

Sorry about the "no namespaces" thing... noted, though, and thanks for the awesome work. You're keeping the pages, though, right? I do have backups just in case.-AmesG 19:36, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

extensions?

I don't know what they would be, among the things I am used to, in order to ask for them :( But if something I'm used to isn't here, I'll whine at you, k? I'm emailing you my AIM, want to talk about the namespace thing you asked for help on. Actually, I'd prefer phone, I'll send that too. humanbe in 20:07, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

User Recruitment

How can we accomplish this? We need many, many more users, and we should encourage CP sysops to come over and play. But how should we get out the word, and get them interested? Okay, though, seriously, I'm going to go work now.-AmesG 20:12, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

I have thought more about it, and I think we do need an immediate goal to have more "non-CP" editors than "ex-CP" editors - to help us get new directions rolling, clear our heads, etc. I think Ice should even add a section under the CP quotes on the topic. humanbe in 12:49, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

Ideas

I'm tired and drawing a blank on the museum thing you mentioned. With a little prodding as to what they are looking for, I might be able to come up with something. Perhaps Kelseigh could come up with some nice graphic contributions as well.--PalMD-Talk 21:39, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Main Page

I revamped the main page, now it looks more like a main page and less like an exercise in fractal geometry. Let me know if there is anything more that you would want on it. Also i have a place for a little paragraph about Rationawiki but was too lazy to write it so if you could do that it would be much appreciated. -Icewedge 23:37, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Hey Ice, nice job. I reduced that "important stuff" header a bit, k? Can you make the two columns equal width? (we need some more dumb CP quotes - how about ranging wider, like the flatearthers at backbrownback blogs?). There's already some blurb about RW at RationalWiki, maybe it could be condensed for that paragraph you're looking for? humanbe in 23:51, 22 May 2007 (CDT)
Thanks for the kind words human :). I wish we still had the list of dumb CP stuff from RationalWiki 1.0 I tried to find more hideously erroneous CP quotes for the main page but I couldn't find any that would be blatantly obvious to every one. -Icewedge 00:07, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
I see you are looking for some of the old “believe it or not stuff”. I can’t remember if the stuff below was on or not but it’s all worthwhile. I would add it myself but I don’t know how to do that inter-wiki stuff. (I’m sure it’s easy, but I’m not up to it.)

Everything pd diasporas is good – especially the animals moved by volcanoes. http://www.conservapedia.com/Post-Diluvian_Diasporas The sloth and the famous kangaroo debate of course. http://www.conservapedia.com/Sloth http://www.conservapedia.com/Kangaroo The kangaroo debate now has more prominence on the marsupial page though. http://www.conservapedia.com/Marsupials North Pole wasn’t there, but should have been. racist propaganda sewer

Do you have evidence to support this claim?

You guys need to grow up and go back to your racist propaganda sewer and leave the rest of us to write a real encyclopedia. Tmtoulouse 19:47, 17 May 2007 (UTC) [1]
Which part, the racist part, the propaganda part or the sewer part? Tmtoulouse 12:19, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
The "racist" part. Thank you. RobS 12:50, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Not really, though you guys haver your moments, like the current debate about the mass genocide of native Americans being a "good" thing. But it was mostly invective on my part. Apologies if it overly offended. Tmtoulouse 13:08, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Would you consider then, amending your statement at Wikipedia to reflect clarify your view? After all, your own personal credibility is at issue here. RobS 13:12, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
The whole exchange was off topic and silly, and doesn't belong on Wikipedia at all. If it was in the article thats one thing, but talk page? Tmtoulouse 13:13, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Talk pages are accesible to search engines. I noticed another editor on that same page alleged racist sites were blocked from his place of work, so he would access CP later that evening at home. RobS 13:17, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
I removed the whole exchange, it didn't belong there anyway. I am only somewhat sympathetic because as you can see the whole thing started with accusations being leveled at me. I think it best if it just gets nuked. Tmtoulouse 13:18, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Thank you, your actions are much appreciated, and I have relayed this gesture to other members of the CP Sysop group. RobS 13:30, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

namespace pagemoving

I did most of them last night, leaving conservapedia but adding a link to the namespace at the end. I think I may have left andrew Schlafly, too. But the main thing I ran into was [[Essay:_Examples_of_Bias_in_Conservapedia]], which is in the main space. Probably saved while you were working? Does it need to be moved, deleted, and then moved back to get it where it belongs? humanbe in 12:49, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

What happened to TK?

Did he just split? I wrote him a welcome message on his page, he posted on RobS' t-page then vanished. He isn't banned, but I'm not clear on what happened. Of course, I have no "standing" in a third party affair, but I was curious. Flippin;-) 14:34, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

Thanks, I was just curious, not accusing. I thought he blanked his page and wanted to know if I should make another sock and invite him back :) Flippin;-) 14:38, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

Human talks to you here

(Accidental deletion?) My welcome to user TK keeps getting vanished, and it seems to be each time you comment on the section above. Is there a bug, or a reason? You know how to reachme if you want to answer privately. By the way, what's up with his "demands" to be made a sysop? Wow... humanbe in 16:18, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

(was an accidental software glitch - Human)

I renamed the heading of this for longer use. Re: RobS' works, is the "essay" template ready yet (the one that says this is the work and project of one person?) I guess I could go look... humanbe in 19:37, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

Yes, thanks for yet another personal attack that was promised, under your rules, wouldn't happen. At least even at CP people are not treated like that. So, you all have no room to bitch and moan about that place. --TK/MyTalk 10:55, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

You can, of course, archive it as vandalism and proudly display a "this page has been vandalized X times" box. Looks like you get to start at at least 2. Editorial input

By the way, Template:RationalWiki_MainPage/NoticeBoard could really use some work on that "clean slate" welcome thing. Using an analogy as a guideline is not necessarily "good rule writing". Also, conceptually, it's a bit outdated - I don't think we're going to see another flood of CP users with "past issues" with editors here. Hey, it's RW2's four week birthday tonight! humanbe in 22:08, 18 June 2007 (CDT)

Thanks! humanbe in 22:24, 20 June 2007 (CDT)

maybe trouble

Check user:vandal contribs. They redirected Persecution complex to asssfly's user page - at CP! Correction. They redirected it to user:TK, here. AmesG redirected it to assfly. I didn't realize off-site redirects worked. Anyway, keep an eye on them, they are running around having fun, maybe a bit too much fun... This place is getting weird, I think I need pizza... humanbe in 22:24, 20 June 2007 (CDT)

Behe

All I can say is, wow. Have you seen the article lately? All I did was format it and start a few short answers, and now virtually every rebuttal is longer, and of course better, than his babble. Nice work! What next, chief? humanbe in 14:57, 21 June 2007 (CDT)

Yep been watching it! I am trying to put together a [[Category:Pseudoscience | Pseudoscience]] portal to place on the front page, and then I will work on getting some additional ideas. Tmtoulouse 14:59, 21 June 2007 (CDT)

edit reversion

I reverted your edit of TK's discussion page because it removed my response to his demand for an apology. I tried to put everything back together, and I'm fairly certain I did. If not - my bust. --Huey gunna getcha 16:29, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

Archived vandalism template

The following is a record of vandalism on the page User:Tmtoulouse
It in no way reflects the views of RationalWiki and is included only for archival purposes.

Purpose

Add this to any pages that contain vandalism archived in accordance with RationalWiki guidelines. To use add this to a page put {{Archivedvandalsim}} at the top. This template automatically assumes it is being put on a subpage of the page it is referring to, if not use it as such {{Archivedvandalsim|(pagename)}}

Ok heres a stab at the template. Is it OK or does it excel in worthlesness? -Icewedge 21:05, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
It's cool, I'd prefer a lighter background, but NBD. By the way, I put a vandalism page as sub page of the talk page, so it wouldn't be in the mainspace, which I think would be correct form? Can your your autolink be made to work like that? And, PS, can you put an autolink to "talk" on the essay template? Je suis too ignorant, and U B smart. And skilzed. humanbe in 22:17, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Wait! Did you want to use the mispelled version? Or was that just a big misteak? Because I deleted the redirected, mispelled version... humanbe in 22:19, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

hissy fit

LOL. I suppose you could call it that. But that was only part of it. HGHeartOfGold talk 01:33, 24 May 2007 (CDT)

Doppelgangers

I've just been writing up some particularly devious vandalism when I found this. I didn't spot it at the time, but now I'm suspicious. It wasn't you who came up with the cunning plan of dropping down the letters slightly, was it? You seem to know more than you let on ... ;) --Wikinterpreterwoo!

Thanks for the block. I still dont know whats so good about being blocked though. But it was kind of fun.Bohdan 21:01, 24 May 2007 (CDT)

Statistics page count

Would it be possible to change which namespaces are included in the pagecount in Special:Statistics? It looks to me like it's only including mainspace pages, but in the RW case it would make more sense to include Essay, Debate and Conservapedia, I think. --jtltalk 00:01, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

Excellent question, I will check mediawiki and see. If you find an answer let me know, or linus know, or both of us know :). Tmtoulouse 00:03, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Good question, but, who cares? I have zero edits, woohoo, I pwned this site! Can we start saying "this site has over 50 mostly irrelevant and obtuse rants"? On the front page? humanbe in 00:17, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
We should just delete those articles spaces. You can still leave the prefixes but making more than one space for your primary articles and essays does not really make much sense. -ĬŴΣĐĝё 00:26, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
You know, ole Titanic buttsexxxer has a point there. humanbe in 00:35, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
It allows people to more easily restrict searches to what they want, like see just debate articles, or just essays....Tmtoulouse 00:37, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
So do categories? Especially if linked from the front page. humanbe in 00:55, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Lets say I wanted to search for evolution but only in the essays, namespace lets me do that, or lets say I want to read about bias but avoid any articles on CP, namespace lets me do that. Categories do not. Tmtoulouse 00:58, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

comment/question

This place is fun! Is your name derived from the region of France?Bohdan 01:03, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

In a round about way it is, it is my last name actually, and I got because one set of my relatives came to the United States from Toulouse, France. Tmtoulouse 01:05, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
I knew it. I actually suspected it back in the good old days when you were still at CP, but you were gone before I could ask.Bohdan 01:07, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Gone but not forgotten. I hope my legacy lives on at CP :). But hey you got to ban my last sock so it all worked out. Oh, and shhhh, about my sock, I use him to edit on here when I just want to write content and not worry about admin stuff. Tmtoulouse 01:10, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Didn't I already explain to your sock or you or someone that it was nothing personal? It was my first day! I was a rookie. I was unsure! I was just following the rules. I even went to the alerts page and questioned my own actions[2]. It is the rule though "block socks". I am sorry it had to be you.Bohdan 01:16, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Bohdan, relax, I know! I am not upset in the least, if I wasn't expecting a ban I wouldn't have put on my user page that "I am a sock of Tmtoulouse." Really, no one has any hard feelings towards you. Tmtoulouse 01:18, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Thats good. I will be honest, it hasn't been the same at CP without all you. I might not have talked with you much, but I was always watching the conversations. It is getting a little boring now.Bohdan 01:22, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
That's the nicest thing I've read all night. I miss us, too. But this is more fun! humanbe in 01:47, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Andy never believed me when I told him that they he needed us more than we needed him. Wiki's are a community based project, they function at their peak when there is an active and vibrant community free to engage in interactions with each other with out looming threats. Things like the Conservapedia:90/10 Rule stifle this atmosphere, and so does blocking all your critics. Tmtoulouse 01:25, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
Will you block me for about 8 hours? That would be my second!Bohdan 01:54, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

Question

I've come across a number of technical errors when I tried accessing RW pages: sometimes pages won't load, or I get an error when I go to RW: pages not loading could be caused by my own internet connection, but I never get those error messages for other websites, so my question is: is RW approaching its (bandwidth) limit? MiddleMan

I am aware of the time out issues, we are collecting some data on it and will pass it on to tech support and see if its a bandwidth issue or something else. If its bandwidth not much we can do about it. Tmtoulouse 11:08, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

Do you know if it's possible to add hebrew characters to the greek, cyrilic, etc we have?--PalMD-Talk 11:05, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

I don't, mediawiki.com might have the answer, or Linus or Jtl might as well. Tmtoulouse 11:08, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

It is on his site

but yeah, thought about that right after I saved. Sorry. Flippin;-)

Someone, please, listen to me and make the world right again!

  • Why does everyone here refuse to follow their own rules? Why don't you accede to my reasonable demands? Why are you all so confused about how to follow rules? Make me a sysop! Bet you thought this was someone else. humanbe in 22:22, 1 June 2007 (CDT)

Sorry...

...for misunderstanding the site's emphasis on free speech. In my opinion, though, where free speech implicates respect and breeds violence, I don't think that speech deserves protection. I should have at least waited, and I hope you'll forgive me.-AmesG 07:46, 7 June 2007 (CDT)

I don't think you committed any transgressions bad enough to require forgiveness ;) But keep inmind what happened. Around 17:08, this user created themselves. They were instantly greeted by a mocking chorus of "I'm a Jew" from several users and at leat one goat. They went around the site, adding some racist vandalism and questionable articles. By 18:45 all their "Lulz" had been repaired and they stopped editing. We now have a decent article-in-progress on racism (that they started as a racist stub). No violence was bred or promulgated, except by implication. Heck, I almost banned TK on sight when he signed up, since I considered it an offensive user name at the time!
Anyway, as you pointed out when you did the ban, it could be undone. You acted in a way that you thought was good for the site, as we all did, in various ways.
The odds are that this was just someone who has discovered that if they are going to make graffiti, Nazi stuff gets far more attention than swear words. Keep in mind that on this site we have a user box that might be offensive to 300 million people, declaiming the importance of freedom of speech. humanbe in 11:01, 7 June 2007 (CDT)

Self-block

I don't think your self-block is necessary; the user you blocked had been warned amply, and there seems to be consensus that the behavior was block-worthy; see RationalWiki talk:Community Standards. --jtltalk 17:44, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
