Career[edit]

Politics[edit]

Despite being a member of the Republican Party for most of his career, Root became a member of the Libertarian Party in 2007 and remained part of the party for 5 years. During the 2008 Presidential Election, he sought the Libertarian Party's nomination for President of the United States, but lost out to Bob Barr, whom he endorsed afterwards. Barr proceeded to choose Root as his nominee for Vice President.

In 2010, Root ran for the position of chair of the Libertarian National Committee. He was defeated by Mark Hinkle by a vote of 228–281 in the third round. He subsequently succeeded in being elected to the Libertarian National Committee as an at-large member. He was again elected as an at-large member in 2012, earning the support of the party's presidential nominee, Gary Johnson.

Root resigned from all of his positions within the Libertarian Party in September 2012 and returned to the Republican Party. He endorsed Mitt Romney in the 2012 Presidential Election, incorrectly predicting that Romney would win the election.

Root was chosen in 2016 by Tea Party Express to present a Tea Party response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address.

In 2016, Root announced his intention to run for the United States Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Harry Reid. However, he ultimately did not run. He voiced his support for Donald Trump in the 2016 election and was opening speaker for Trump's kick-off rally in Las Vegas during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Other[edit]

He was a co-creator, producer and co-host of King of Vegas on Spike TV, as well as a producer for the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures.

Root has also authored several books. These include The Ultimate Obama Survival Guide, The Murder of the Middle Class, The Zen of Gambling, The Joy of Failure!, and quite a few others.

He currently hosts WAR Now: The Wayne Allyn Root Show, which is syndicated nationally by USA Radio Network and is broadcast by Newsmax TV.

Political stances[edit]

Root has identified as a fiscal conservative at times, and at other times a Libertarian Republican. He supports smaller government, reduced spending, reduced entitlements, reduced bureaucracy, dramatically lower taxes, and greater personal freedom for all individuals. In the area of education, he supports more parental control, more emphasis on school choice (moving education to the state and local level), and increased competition through vouchers. He is also a strong supporter of gun rights.
