Geopolitika is a Norwegian alt-right self-styled online newspaper that promotes Putinist apologia and pro-Kremlin propaganda, anti-"Globalism," Islamophobia and biological racism. It claims to be inspired by The National InterestWikipedia and the realist school of international relations. It was founded in 2024 by a group of defectors/veterans from now defunct alt-right website Resett.no, led by Henrik S. Werenskiold who used to be Resett's CEO after Helge LuråsWikipedia was ousted as editor, and who also used to be a close associate of Lurås.[1] Werenskiold used to be affiliated with Lurås' "research institute," "Centre for International and Strategic Analysis," as a "research assistant/editor."[2] Curiously, Lurås' new project iNyheter has written critically about Geopolitika, highlighting its cooperation with a man, Ciwan Maksut Can, who is accused of being a Chinese spy.[3] Geopolitika admitted that Can used to write for the publication.[4] Interestingly, Can also used to be affiliated with Lurås' own "institute."[2] The self-styled newspaper is published by a limited company wholly owned by Werenskiold.[5]

Contributors[edit]

The website's main contributors are a motley crew.[6]

  • Henrik S. Werenskiold, editor, is the former CEO of alt-right website Resett
  • Einar Hammer, one of the mainstays of Resett
  • Charles Støeng, a so-called "military expert" who says he used to be a sergeant with the French Foreign Legion
  • Andre Martinsen, a particularly odd character who has used at least half a dozen different names, including seemingly made-up fantastical-sounding names such as "Andreas A. H. J. E. Martinsen av Nordenstjerne" (av Nordenstjerne=of the North Star) as of 2014 and "Andreas Zahl Martinsen de Nordenstjerne" as of 2018.[7][8] He has also called himself "Andreas Zahl Nordenstjerne."[9] He is from Mosjøen,Wikipedia a small town with 9,000 inhabitants, where his entirely ordinary family ran a garage. However, he speaks of them as if they were royalty, often highlighting their income and level of spending, which he likes—in the spirit of Bør BørsonWikipedia—to point out was well above average in Mosjøen, noting that his family has "had financial prosperity exceeding the average, including a monthly expenditure of 30,000-50,000 kroner"[10] and that he descends from the "upper class."[8] He was apparently once involved with The Capitalist PartyWikipedia a tiny libertarian fringe party, and seems to be have adopted pro-Russian/pro-Putin views when living in Russia as a student.
  • Ciwan Maksut Can, was arrested in 2024 and accused of being a Chinese spy[4]
