Autopatrolled[edit]
Because of your edits to and time on the wiki, Autopatrolled has been added to your user rights. This lets you bypass most of the abuse filters, bypass the CAPTCHA, and edit more frequently. If you have questions, bleat ask away.
We hope you enjoy your newfound POWER — and these external tools:
- Google Scholar Button (Chrome, Firefox) searches your highlighted text in Google Scholar. Easily check academic citations!
- web.archive.org and archive.today, among other tools, can save permanent copies of webpages. Never lose a crank website or racist Tweet ever again!Bongolian (talk) 03:09, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Please answer this question honestly[edit]
Those Italian translations. Are they your own work or are they machine translated? Spud (talk) 00:17, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Spud! We are trying to introduce RW in Italy. For the time we just translate existing lemmas, sharing them on our Facebook page (and to be honest, until now we have had positive feedback). Every time we post a lemma on FB, we invite our readers to join the "RW-Italy project" hoping that they want to become editors! In the future, we will surely start to create pages from scratch! --Riga21 (talk) 15:10, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Riga21. Thank you for your efforts. The issue isn't so much whether you are creating pages from scratch, but whether or not you are using automatic translations. Automatic translations are not good because they usually have some problems, but also because there may be an issue with copyright (e.g. Google translations probably are copyrighted). It's fine to use automatic translations as an aid for your own translations but they should not be the primary source of your translations. @Spud Bongolian (talk) 16:01, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
- Yes. @Bongolian is absolutely right. Thank you for responding, Riga21 and I like your enthusiasm about RationalWiki. I want to see as many different articles here in as many different languages as possible. But I want all translations to be written by real thinking human beings who are trying their best to make the translations as natural, as readable and as good as possible. And Riga21, you still haven't answered my question. Are you using machine translations like Google Translate? Yes or no? Spud (talk) 00:20, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
- We use translation tools, but obviously we try to improve the texts as much as we can. For example, there are a lot of english common phrases that are not that easy to transpose in italian. Sorry for our mistakes ^_^". we'll try to get better our work!--Riga21 (talk) 00:45, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
- So, you're saying that the texts are mostly the result of machine translation. You just read the machine translation and change a few sentences. I'm very sorry, I just don't think that's acceptable. I want to see Italian translations here but I want more time, effort and thought from actual human beings to go into their creation. Personally, I think that all of the articles you have created will have to be deleted. But I'm going to see what other users in the Saloon Bar think first. I would advise you not to create any more articles until we reach a decision. Spud (talk) 04:22, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
- And other users agreed with me so I went ahead and deleted all of your articles. Please don't take this too badly. I hope that you will continue to spread the good word about RationalWiki among Italian speakers. And I hope that you will encourage some of them to take the time and effort to properly translate some articles here. Spud (talk) 14:50, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
