Hi[edit]

How are things? Still not back in the house I suppose?--Bob_M (talk) 11:03, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

DONT GO THERE!! Not yet in house - entire ground floor still floorboardless, plasterless & electricityless. Multiplicity of additional disasters - publisher requires full rewrite (500pp) - was relying on cash, car broken, cat in catspital (out again actually). Otherwise life's peachy. How's Spain? Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 12:19, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Sorry to hear about your (continuing) problems. Been raining a lot over the past couple of weeks - though I suppose "a lot" is a somewhat relative phrase. Should start work next week, but I'm feeling a tad poorly. :-( Still I could get back to creating articles here. :-) There are a couple I want to get done but can't find the energy as I know they'll be controversial. Expand the one about our mutual friend that made a stub for - for example. --Bob_M (talk) 12:25, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

You never told us[edit]

you're a shaman. Understandably, you're probably embarrassed about it. ThunderkatzHo! 12:29, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

NO!! NO!! NOT ME! I DENY ANY CONNECTION - CALL ME HARRIET or AGATHA OR ANYTHING BUT SHAIMAN!! -honest, (breaks down in tears and beats head on table) Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 12:47, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Although I do play a mean bodhran.Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 12:59, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Oh come on. We know it's you. This is from your website:
She has always felt deeply connected to this magical land and aims to raise awareness of our own native British spirituality & rich shamanic traditions, reflected in her songs, chants and lectures. As a trained shamanic practitioner and healer she also writes, lectures and facilitates workshops in addition to working on a one-to-one basis within contemporary British shamanism, offering shamanic healing, soul retrieval & journeying tuition as well as Celtic medicine wheel teachings. Deeply moved by the spirit of the drum and its connection with the land, Susan uses frame drums, voice & percussion in her shamanic work as well as writing songs & chants and recording & performing regularly with Scott.
Go on. Admit it's you. .-) --Bob_M (talk) 13:14, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Alright (sobs in defeat), you got me bang to rights guv. I'm also better looking than I thought (& younger), my personal faery (sic) quotient is 7,000 & I'm a Kernow celt. How can you ever forgive me? Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 13:20, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

[you wanna see me performing with Scotty? Send $50 for my personal webaddress] Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 13:26, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Actually I've been thinking of taking up this stuff myself and I see from your site that: "Susan is sometimes available ... for healing sessions and ongoing private shamanic sessions / tuition in British shamanic traditions & shamanic journeying techniques." I'm particularly interested in "shamanic journeying techniques" and I was wondering if you could pop over to Spain to give me a few pointers. Presumably you'll be able to come in your spirit form so that should save a few bob on the airfare. What special preparations should I make to care for your spiritual form while you're here?--Bob_M (talk) 13:30, 31 August 2007 (CDT)
She can come in spirit form but the tools needed for the journey can not. tmtoulouse frustrate 13:32, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

A suitable body to inhabit, of course. Preferably about 18 23 & rather fit. - ps get not your hopes up Bob - you'd be much too old for me.

As to equipment I'l provide my own. Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 13:39, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Do I need to chant some holy incantation to guide your (possibly mushroom-powered) form to my location? Burnish some magnetic pyramids perhaps? Rub some vibrating crystals? Anoint myself with woad and dance in the moonlight? (I must admit that the last is my favorite - but I'm a bit concerned about the neighbors.) As to age - hey being some magic shaman de-aging juice!--Bob_M (talk) 13:46, 31 August 2007 (CDT)
What we do is: you find twin 23 year old virgins & sacrifice one to Wotan by allowing a goat to have its way with her. The other one should be ritually raised to a height of seventeen ells above a faery ring by power of the mind I shall meanwhile get totally pissed on Ardbeg and wake up in the 2nd virgin's body. We can then chant (is that a euphemism?) for all you like. 193.113.235.168 14:11, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Oops sorry - must've timed out or summat. Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 14:15, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Thinks°°°°(mus pik difrent psoodonim necks tyme) Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 14:21, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Getting hold of twin twenty five year-olds is a piece of cake. The big goat - OK, suppose I have to get Satan to bless it first I suppose, but I should be able to contact him somehow over the net, he's probably on Facebook or something. No, the problem is the virgin twins bit. That is a problem. You're now winding me up are you?--Bob_M (talk) 14:56, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

No-one would expect 25 y.o. virgins - I said 23 y.o. And I'll need you to send me the Ardbeg first of course. You'd better send @ least 3 bottles so that we can practice. You know the address from the web site. If not 2 x 23 y.o. virgins then 4 x 26 y.o. semi-virgins'll do, but there'll be logistics problems. Mistletoe waved over a full size picture of Olivia Newton John will facilitate transfer. Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 15:44, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Strangely enough there is a lot of mistletoe around here, so that's not a problem. I'll have to sharpen my golden sickle though. Sadly I'll need to pick this up tomorrow as my night is up. :-)--Bob_M (talk) 15:48, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Homeopathy challenge article[edit]

Hello Susan. There has been a bit of a debate about renaming the "Disproving" articles and the challenge article on homeopathy. In the past you mentioned that the title of the homeopathy article could be improved and I thought you might want to contribute at Talk:Disproving Creationism. Thanks.--Bob_M (talk) 05:00, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

demotion[edit]

I would like to use my awesome powerz to demote you to janitor sysop. I have learned to trust your edits and opinion, even if we don't always agree. You display good "wiki" style in your work, and have made tremendous contributions to this site (I love your "help" files!) If you don't want the extra buttons (delete, block), just say so I will not ruin your reputation by making you "one of us". If you think you can handle the powerz and use them mostly for good (blocking bohdan) and not for evil (blocking me), just say so. Thank you, humanbe in 21:50, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

Has bobm been demoted? If not then no thanx. If he has then I'm Over the moon. Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 22:00, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

I have no idea what you just said, but that's why we lurve you! 22:11, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

Ha! Having checked I see that it was just a circular letter. Do you work for Reader's Digest, am I in line for a £2,000,000 prize if I respond in tje affirmative? Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 22:08, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

Yes, but first I need you to give me your bank account information including your pin number so I can put the money in your account. tmtoulouse frustrate 22:09, 1 September 2007 (CDT)
Piss off! Oops. But you haven't answered the question... humanbe in 22:13, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

Not 'til bobm's been demoted - he's much more deserving than me. But yes, of course I'd like demotion. Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 22:22, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

Thanks for your kind words Susan - though I can't say I agree with them. For example your work on the Help files was a great improvement to the site. Anyway I'm sure this mutual appreciation society will be making others feel ill, so I'll just say congratulations on your demotion. --Bob_M (talk) 04:28, 2 September 2007 (CDT)

Thanks Bob, I'm sorry if I embarrassed you but, if you remember back to when I 1st logged on (as RojerB) I did say that I was going to haunt you - because you'd been my 1st welcomer. (Is that sentence long enough?) Seriously your reasoned articles and edits always impress me with their incitefulness & demonstration of rational thought. You, unlike me, think before opening your mouth. (Well - hitting keyboard.)

Anyway I think that RW could benefit from sysops who are more likely to be awake in our morning ready to defend! Do Brits outnumber Yanks yet?

Congrats to you also. (It's rather like being invited into the 'gang hut' in the woods innit?) Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 07:21, 2 September 2007 (CDT)

I'm seeing acclamation on both points, and will follow through "tomorrow" (which never knows!) humanbe in 22:50, 1 September 2007 (CDT)
Thanks for demotion H. - unhapply I think it's possible that my contributory efforts have run their course - I'm not very hot on metaphysical stuff - if it ain't hard science I'm out of my depth and I've little or no patience with idiots. Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 07:21, 2 September 2007 (CDT)

I was wondering the same thing.--BobDo you agree? 14:35, 2 September 2007 (CDT)
The exclamation mark is a "non-patrolled edit." Any edit thats made to an article thats not by an admin gets marked with one of those until an admin reads the edit and "marks as patrolled." For bigger projects its a way of distributing vandalism fighting efforts since you do not have sysops visiting the same edit. We do not really do much with it, Ames likes to mark stuff as patrolled and a few others do sometimes as well. You may mark as patrolled, or not as you see fit. tmtoulouse frustrate 14:45, 2 September 2007 (CDT)
For comparison, on WoWWiki (see, I told you) mostly we pretty much ignore patrolling stuff cause vandalism is pretty low and cause it's boring :P (we require registration and most vandals get long bans due to us being fed up with the immaturity of certain players) Kirkburn 16:39, 2 September 2007 (CDT)
We have sysopsed a few of our resident vandals...we like the funny the stuff...unfunny can net a block though. tmtoulouse frustrate 17:06, 2 September 2007 (CDT)

SJIHAS / Gauss[edit]

Yup, caught me. Now merging my talk page. SJIHAS was just too weird. (In my own mind, I pronounced it "s-GEE-hoss".) When choosing that name in the first place, I put about 3 seconds of thought into what to type into the box on the signup page. Gauss 12:22, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

I'd always thought that there was some Jihad connection. As Newton's gone I think Gauss is an excellent name! Susan Jayne Garlicktalk 12:29, 4 September 2007 (CDT)

New users[edit]

Yes, it takes patience. And as time goes by and there is more to the site, it's harder for them to join and write a magnum opus on a pet topic. As far as our biblical expert... my only concern, ok, there's two, one is the editing "style" (hit and run, then wikilawyer), two is the absence of interest in any other article as far as I can tell. That worries me. But we'll get him more involved if he wants to be. As with Tuna Boy, who turned around and started writing and editing quite happily, it seems. Even with me bitching at his talk page about too many caps, etc.! Hope you are high and dry and in your home again! Flood stories, indeed. humanbe in 19:49, 7 September 2007 (CDT)

I don't know if you would want me to create an account[edit]

I noticed that you have sent me a welcome message, (which also told me that I should create an account), although I don't think you would want me to. I'm a creationist, conservative Christian, or any stereotype that atheists might see as stupid, ignorant, insane etc... I only came here to read certain articles of interest. If I ever see any typos or grammatical mistakes though, I correct them.

We welcome all views here - even specially those that are agin us. You don't have to register but ... Why not? sg 22:09, 8 September 2007 (CDT)
Just because you disagree with us doesn't mean we don't want you. We love having people to argue with (assuming they're not purposefully trolling, and you already seem too nice a person to troll), especially since our past resident creationist had no better argument than "Hitler believed in evolution, so it must be false". And plenty of people here are theists of some sort. All that matters for joining is if you're a decent person. ThunderkatzHo! 22:13, 8 September 2007 (CDT)
Oh yes, it probably helps if you've got a sense of homour. sg 22:19, 8 September 2007 (CDT)

Stereotypes that we see as stupid, ignorant and insane? Well... We see stupid, ignorant, insane people as being stupid ignorant and insane... No offence, of course. Welcome. - All Hail Tuna 09:09, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

"And plenty of people here are theists of some sort."

Oh, for some reason I thought this was an atheist wiki. The Pascal's Wager article made me think that it was.

99.246.49.104 12:21, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

Good God no! Some of the editors here get right up my atheist back passage but I respect their right to exist and to fight their corner even though I think they're mad. sg 12:26, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

Pascal's Wager? Even a neutral Wiki would have to mention that it was a useless argument... While RW seems to be fairly atheistic, this could also be due to the fact that one of RW's main goals is to refute, etc, Conservapedia, and what is Conservapedia's main bias other than Conservatism? ;) - All Hail Tuna 04:39, 10 September 2007 (CDT)

Music[edit]

Well, thought i'd been clever! But no¿ seems you gotta be demoted so far that you can play with the innerworkings of the wiki. Can we have a new Namespace : Music? There's a lot of new editors (Allhailtuna, jazzman etc) wot are interested in it & would happily play in such a playground. It'd keep them out of the rest of us's hair but not boot them off the site. (& I do like music too) sg 08:46, 9 September 2007 (CDT) [1]

Oh come on, you think I would really keep out of your hair? I'm too much of a professional lice. - All Hail Tuna 09:07, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
Would you like a music namespace? (you do wot I get told off for - apparently we're sposed to indent with colons - 1 more for each reply 'til it goeth of the ej of teh screen or sumfink. I fink its boring but some people get quite stroppy about it)sg 09:23, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
Wait, you can edit namespaces? Wot brout tha' abou'? Locke User is Vandal/sysop Always Watching...... 13:38, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

Beurueruerrocrats or lower can (i fink) - there's a link to media wiki above that tells u how.Yu gotta dig into t'workins & get you hands dirrrrty. sg 13:46, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

Ah, ok, I saw the mess someone made by "pretending" there is a music namespace for bad religion. So we want a Music: namespace? First I must ask, what's wrong with ACD? I ask because at least ACD has a main page link (under amusement). And ACD is not condemnation - it's where everything that is not "mission compatible" goes. And to be fair, the few musicalitions who are in Main: (lennon, mccartney, waits) in spite of there never being any complaints, should also end up in the same place.
Recipe? .. 14:27, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
Created because we had 20 or so recipes in the mainspace. Is the point that we create new namespaces for every kind of topic that should end up in ACD? In fact, your mention makes me think we should move the recipes to ACD and delete the extra namespace. Except that would be a lot of work... As far as music, we have what, one article that is more than a humorous stub on a band or musician? humanbe in 14:35, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

de-colon-ised

We've 2 recent editors 'allhailtuna' & 'Jazzman' who've written fairly serious articles about music/musicians & I was just trying to be nice to them (such a change from godbothering creationist fascists). If you don't like it - knock it in the head. .. 14:45, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

Yes, It's good to be welcoming. But suppose we had games players who wanted to write WOW articles? Or gardeners who were keen on gardening articles? Would we create new namespaces for then too? So I'm not with you on this one I'm afraid Susan. :-( --Bobbing up and down 15:24, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
I'm happy whatever, as I said 'twas only a thought. : -) .. 15:29, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
OK, so I checked their contribs. Jazzman831 copied over his CP article on the blues; Tuna wrote Bad Religion and the Greg Gaffin thing. That does not exactly constitute a landslide. Anyway, here'z my thoughts.
  • They belong in ACD
  • So do our other musician articles
  • So do the recipes
  • "Recipe:" should be removed
  • ACD should be renamed to make more sense, like "Amuse" or "Amusement"
  • Lastly, having read the Greg Gaffin section at BR, it looks to me like he actually deserves a mainspace article - not so much for being the singer, but for his book (do we have an ISBN link yet?), he's a professor, and apparently a "rationalist" of some level of note.
Anyway, moving these things to ACD is easy. Simple cleanup. Playing with namespaces requires server-side attention, meaning pretty much Trent has to do it, and he's swamped with early semester work right now. When things lighten up for him I'll see about renaming "ACD" so it sounds like less of an insult to have one's opus (opii?) moved there, and perhaps moving the recipes to that space as well. humanbe in 15:37, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
Thought something like that when I read greg grafin (?). All sounds ok to me. .. 15:46, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, I didn't mean to cause this much trouble. Ehhhhhh it was never fully explained to me the purpose to this wiki, and I just thought noone had gotten around to certain topics yet. When you have an article on goat, alien abduction, and ghosts, it's hard to tell what should and should not be written about. JazzMan 15:47, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
Let's do it then. I'll take on Bad Religion/Greg Gaffin. Anyone can work on the other musicians (watch out for the links to fix!). Also, I think all the silly articles on US States that mostly I wrote should be in ACD as well. A lot of work there, that I should probably start. Too bad there isn't an automatic way to fix in-links when moving an article... PS, Jazzman, there are links from the main page to what we are "trying" to do here. If an article in the main space seems to "not fit", feel free to bring it up on its talk page. Oh, and "Goat" is our mascot. humanbe in 15:50, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

(de colon ising) Typical man! Read the instructions? Nar, I don't need em. :-) .. 15:52, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

I actually did read them! I guess I just missed the important ones... I took a what I read/skimmed from the Community Guidlines (which reference, but don't define, the "goals of the project") and combined that with the articles I actually saw and then made an educated guess. Guess I need more education :) JazzMan 16:08, 9 September 2007 (CDT) back to lurking/talk pages for me...
No need to run and hide. The standards/guidelines are more about how we wish to comport ourselves. Then, from the main page:
Our purpose includes the following:
1. Analyzing and refuting the anti-science movement, ideas and people.
2. Analyzing and refuting the full range of crank ideas.
3. Explorations of authoritarianism and fundamentalism.

And there's a link to what is an RW article and the help files. These try to flesh out what we are trying to do, although as a mob of anarchists, we all tend to break the "rules" as often as we can. We then just rein each other in a bit when we go too far... humanbe in 16:50, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

Wow, I saw the "purpose" but I completely missed the "what is a rational wiki article" link. That actually clears a lot up, thanks. I will still probably lurk for a little longer (not that I was very out of lurkdom to begin with) until I find an area with which I feel familiar enough to add my expertise. JazzMan 18:32, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
I don't mind ACD, really, if you create a Music category, then it would be unfair if you didn't make a Gaming one, etc. So yeah, I guess that it's not necessary. It's Conservapedia making a failed attempt to be a complete Encyclopedia, not RW... o.O - All Hail Tuna 04:32, 10 September 2007 (CDT)

minimalist sig[edit]

OK, I see you've gone almost as far as possible. 'ow about just linking single spaces with four <small> tags around them? I liked the "S to the power of G" one. humanbe in 16:59, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

to RW 2.1!!! humanbe in 13:25, 11 September 2007 (MDT)

Fink mine was the last word on 2.0! SJGsjg 13:51, 11 September 2007 (MDT)

I may have you pwned there, SG... http://74.220.207.146/~rationa4/index.php?title=Science_fiction&curid=6292&diff=55124&oldid=55003 was at 17:32. I edited Science fiction and Survivalism after your last main page edit. Not that it matters, since the site histories are contiguous. There's just a, er, "gap" from 17:32 on 10th to 02:40 on 11th. RobS should report on it!!! humanbe in 14:08, 11 September 2007 (MDT)
Ah, but your edits were sooooo trivial, compared to my words of wisdom. SJGsjg 14:14, 11 September 2007 (MDT)

CONTIGUOUS? big words cut no ice with me young man! SJGsjg 17:11, 11 September 2007 (MDT)

Big words doubleplusungood, promotes ownlife. Locke User is Vandal/sysop Always Watching...... 17:17, 11 September 2007 (MDT)

Clean up[edit]

I see you've made edits to my user page and archive. I'm sure they are legitimate, but what exactly are you doing? I'm not complaining- just wondering.--Bob's your uncle 10:57, 12 September 2007 (MDT)

The apostrophe in Don't feed the troll wasn't reading right & it was showing up as a red link. SJGsjg 11:05, 12 September 2007 (MDT)

Ah, OK. Thanks. :-) --Bob's your uncle 11:13, 12 September 2007 (MDT)
I( don't want to sound ungrateful for fixing whatever is wrong with my trolls - possibly the punctuation on my Spanish keyboard has done something strange - but your comments are a tad cryptic. Is there anything I can (or should) be doing?--Bob's your uncle 12:02, 12 September 2007 (MDT)

Nar! 'sjust that you seem to have used a different apostrophe (slanted) & rw 2.1 don't realise it's the same as ('). (and there's two CAPS in Don't feed the Troll to link it) Nearly done now. SJGsjg 12:09, 12 September 2007 (MDT)
