Inferno bot not working[edit]

Just letting you know, it hasn't done anything for nearly a week. Plutocow (talk) 22:36, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

Solved, bot was logged out. -- Techpriest (talk) 16:07, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
Again, the bot has been inactive for nearly a week. Plutocow (talk) 16:45, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Fixed again! Thanks for the notice. -- Techpriest (talk) 19:45, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Help on discord[edit]

I'm trying to join the discord, but I haven't got in yet. What should I do? Rational Dude (talk) 15:20, 18 May 2023 (UTC)

Ninja[edit]

How do I get ninja? Rational Dude (talk) 11:49, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

By asking someone who can give it to you. Granted (for anyone looking here - RD wants to edit categories). -- Techpriest (talk) 11:50, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Dissociative identity disorder[edit]

Ever heard of it? I'm not a doctor, but it could explain EK and Dredd. Supposedly they're siblings, but CheckUser on Wikipedia says that they're the same person, so unless they're both living in mommy's basement... 71.1.237.143 (talk) 01:02, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

They're siblings. That said, the incidents over which Dredd got banned from Wikipedia are about a decade ago now. By my estimate, yes, teenagers do live in the same household when they're not yet adults, which neither Dredd or EK would've been by then. -- Techpriest (talk) 09:55, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
They were banned in late 2017, which was almost six years ago, hardly a decade ago. I have no idea how old they are but given Dredd was allegedly a lawyer (though that's probably untrue), I assumed he was a little older than early 20s. Besides, there's more to CheckUser than just IP address alone, and you can usually tell when two people are using different devices unless it's in an institution where they have 1,000 Dell Optiplexes or Compaq Evos (I'm showing my own age with the latter because I don't think they even make the Evo anymore, lol). It really doesn't matter though, I was just making a statement. 71.1.237.143 (talk) 01:36, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Inferno bot[edit]

It hasn't been working in five days Plutocow (talk) 17:18, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Fixed, it had lost the login again. -- Techpriest (talk) 22:25, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
And it's broken again. Plutocow (talk) 18:39, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
I did a server upgrade and it lost the mwparserfromhell dependency due to a python upgrade. Should be fixed once more. -- Techpriest (talk) 17:17, 3 February 2024 (UTC)

Header quotes[edit]

How do you feel about me using quotes from fictional material on a page if it's appropriate for/relevant to the page's content in question? BJA2112 (talk) 19:40, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Depends on if they're appropriate and culturally well known. Citing the adventures of Zod season 37 episode 15 is something I'd say "no" on because nobody has seen that. Assuming it's about Adultery, I don't think the quote meets either criteria. -- Techpriest (talk) 20:36, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
I opened up a discussion on this on the Mod noticeboard. Bongolian (talk) 20:56, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Sup Tech[edit]

It’s me, how’s it going? Been a while.

I just wanted to ask if I’m allowed to appeal my category ban, I do want to fix things and I also want to add categories when they’re justified. I also want to know if I can appeal to get my sysop rights back, I know I demoted for a reason, but in my defense I never abused my powers and I never will. Please let know what your decision is. Rational Dude (talk) 18:25, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

How do I report users?[edit]

There are a couple users I would like to report for violating RationalWiki's terms of service. How can I report them? PeaRidge62 (talk) 13:00, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

@PeaRidge62 Use the moderation notice board. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 18:40, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. Have a great day! PeaRidge62 (talk) 19:58, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Category:Enablers[edit]

Time for Inferno Bot to remove this category from the 200+ pages it is on. Plutocow (talk) 18:19, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Inferno bot not archiving?[edit]

The last archive from Inferno Bot was July 12. Is it still working? Bongolian (talk) 04:43, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

Realised this too. New world (talk) 14:42, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
Should be fixed, the login expired again. -- Techpriest (talk) 14:10, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! It looks like archiving has restarted. Bongolian (talk) 02:04, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

it's a me noirio - David Gerard (talk) 09:21, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
wahoo! -- Techpriest (talk) 09:22, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

Inferno bot (yet again)[edit]

It's once again not archiving. There seriously needs to be a better solution to thus issue than waiting for you to log on. Plutocow (talk) 18:37, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

And to nobody's surprise, it's down again. Surely there has to be a way to keep it on consistently? Plutocow (talk) 22:31, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
I've changed the authentication method, it should stay logged in now. -- Techpriest (talk) 22:12, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

IA court case[edit]

https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/4/24235958/internet-archive-loses-appeal-ebook-lending

So, what happens now? Shutdown before the end of the year (yes, I've read the part where it sounds as if they're going to fight the court's decision, but...)? Arcadium Trancefer (talk) 11:27, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Dunno; I doubt they'll be forced to close their doors. It's probably not the end for the IA as a website, but definitely the end of their CDL system. Personally I'll push back against the notion that this only happened because publishers just hate libraries though. The IA crossed a line with their NEL, which provoked this broader lawsuit against CDL. Even outside of that, the Internet Archive exploits it's assumed broader immunities from the consequences of copyright law to essentially act as a warez site. This ruling attempts to reign that in by making it more clear that the broader DMCA protections only function if they're an element to their actual status as a library. That will probably provoke more lawsuits from other entities as it is my understanding that IAs compliance with the DMCA is poor and only done as a "courtesy".
Morally speaking, this is a big loss for humanity and freedom of information, but the Internet Archive chose to fight in a battleground where morality isn't what decides the law (that place would be US Congress and the US senate). So it's little surprise they lost. -- Techpriest (talk) 07:41, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
