Thanks! The Crow (talk) 17:27, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Is that huge corvid from Dark Souls a crow or a raven[edit]

I think it's an oversized crow because the beak proportions are like a crow's, and its nasal bristles aren't extensive as they are on a raven. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png ๐ŸŽ„LeftyGreenMario!๐ŸŽ„ 21:24, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

You mean the one that carries you from the Asylum to Firelink? I think it's a crow. By looking up the differences between Crows and Ravens, I agree with your assesment on the beak and the bristles. There is also the fact that the bird flaps it's wings quite heavily, which is behavior more associated with crows (Ravens tend to soar more). Furthermore it's tail is a clean circle of feathers (source I found calls it "like a fan"), which indicates it's a crow. Ravens on the other hand have a tail that's more pronounced in it's individual feathers (giving them a pointy tail and the source calls it "like a wedge"). It would also make sense from a lore perspective to be a crow, since it's likely related to Velka, Goddess of Sin, who is heavily associated with crows. The Crow (talk) 21:41, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
The source, I'm guessing, is telling the difference between the American crowWikipedia and the common ravenWikipedia,. Finally, you can tell between a crow and a raven from the noise they make; crows caw while ravens croak. I think the crow you see in Dark Souls is based on the carrion crowWikipedia. Comparison between the birds here. Carrion crows are the common crow of Europe, and Dark Souls lore is based on medieval Europe I'm guessing. But that's how that crow should be based from, can't say for sure if the developers actually do know their crows. After all, I've heard American crows cawing in that gritty Tomb Raider reboot despite the setting taking place in some fictional island in Japan. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png ๐ŸŽ„LeftyGreenMario!๐ŸŽ„ 03:32, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, true. I don't recall the crow in Firelink making any noises though. As far as the crow they went for, it's probably a Carrion Crow, since Bloodborne has enemies that are explicitly called Carrion Crows and From tends to be pretty good in researching things for their fantasy worlds. Birdid seems like a really interesting site, I'll keep that one bookmarked! The Crow (talk) 08:40, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

You removed my test article, and it wasn't plagiarized article[edit]

Iit was going to be used as a model to explain how DRM is malware but you deleted it, I was using it to help learn the markup wiki language. Please don't remove my stuff until I'm done editing it, I will mark the page with "TEST PAGE" in the future so that you don't remove it. Mon333 (talk)

I literally found the same page on MalwareWikipedia. That's called plagiarism. If you want to experiment, use your user sandbox. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 14:24, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Your archive bot[edit]

I roled it as a bot, however I did as you may have noticed remove the sysop role from it. Generally speaking it's recommended to avoid running adminbots unless absolutely necessary for short runs that require it to have admin tools. There are various reasons for this which are explained on Wikipedia, most of which apply here too. EK (talk) 11:43, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

Alrighty, and yeah I get why on further thought. Just wasn't sure at first due to me not having a full understanding of how the bot worked at the time of writing. As long as it can edit + create pages it should be good though. Writing up docs for it now. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 11:48, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

Problem[edit]

The saloon bar has not been archived in a while.--HedvigsenSkreonk here 10:09, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

It is being archived though? User:Inferno Bot lists the archivals properly. What likely just happened is that a bunch of people created new threads lately. I know it's a high amount, but most of these are recent enough for them to not be archived. Archival is done by last signature date in a topic, not by total amount of topics. It should resolve itself. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 11:27, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Q[edit]

Can you make Inferno Bot run redirection fixes regularly? Once a day? Month?--HedvigsenSkreonk here 16:17, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

No, the task technically errors each time due to certain redirections being recursive/page locked and in some cases I have to manually intervene. Besides, redirection fixes aren't often a problem (double redirects usually only happen due to user renamed and the very occasionally poorly named page). Broken redirects are moreso a problem, but we don't get AfDs all that often. If you want it to be ran, feel free to nag me though if you think it's an issue. Your comment on User_talk:Oxyaena[edit]

Can you advise me why you felt a need to tell me to "piss off" on that page? I would politely request that you behave more civilly towards other editors in the future, that isn't acceptable. Kiko4564 (talk) 19:27, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

You've been teeming from the start to see what users you could warn or tone police, and now that you have a mop you seem justified in doing it. On the discord a few days ago, you were literally asking if Oxy was breaking her probation by being rude to you on discord and if she could get sysoprevoked (and I had to point out that we don't police wiki behavior for discord behavior). I'm sorry for not being too huge on your tone policing bullshit. Also you don't have to play the telephone game, this can easily be done on her talkpage as well, this wiki has no rules against going to people's talkpages for specific answers. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 19:31, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
OK I see, I'm sorry if you feel this way about my decision making. I appreciate that you do have valid concerns here, and that I could have handled these situations better. I will try and take your advice onboard in the future. I can see your point about me posting here rather than on Oxy's talk page, but I wanted to move the discussion off her talk page to avoid this escalating the situation into her responding, and getting funny about me continuing to post on her talk page. I felt that this was likely to happen. Kiko4564 (talk) 19:52, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

I do not know who this "Crow" you speak of is. I am Sirius. :^) Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 19:05, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Oh great tech wizard, grant me some wisdom.[edit]

Hey Sirius, sorry to bother you, but I could use some insight. Thought I'd come and bug you since you are sort of a nerd programmer and stuff.

There is a line in our Elon Musk article about Covid which has a weird sort of reference:

"The United States reported 29515 new cases on April 30th, 2020" (Data obtained from John Hopkins University)

I have a vague idea of what GitHub is, but what exactly am I looking at? Do you think this is a worthy reference, or should we find some other report for this figure? Would all our readers know what this is and I'm just being a derp (like, I'm old, but I don't think I'm that old)? - Rairyu75 (Talk) 20:36, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

Uh basically, if you've been using the JHU map to look at covid cases, they have been uploading the statistics of per day for each country to GitHub for research purposes. It allows you to search through history to find specific cases on that day per country (and for the US per state/city even). I used it as a reference as it was the cleanest way for me to get a solid figure on a specific date for any amount of cases. The link is to the diff for that day, and the files are written in CSV. The total number comes from a discord bot a friend of mine wrote to track new COVID cases each day (which uses this repo), but you should get the same amount by adding up all the covid cases for the US states. If you can find a cleaner way to get the total count, I'd love a different reference though, but the statistic should be accurate. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 22:43, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
I see (CSV is comma separated value or something, right? It rings a bell). I clicked a thingy on the site through trial and error and now the table looks much more manageable. I will poke around the web and see if I can find something, but if you say the statistics look reliable from this reputable source I'm not gonna sweat too much (it just looked a bit hard to digest on a first glance). Thanks! - Rairyu75 (Talk) 23:00, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, CSV just means the file is a comma separated table. Back when I put that in the article, GitHub didn't have fancy rendering for CSV files. Now they do, so you can update the link to use that one if you want to. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 23:03, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

My dear Sirius[edit]

It really is irrelevant if some nobody coops me. I had seen it before you informed me, and it seems Ariel had already basically shut it down. Procedure is procedure. I didn't see any indication on the coop that you saw it, and a lot of people tend to forget the notice, so I posted it. But fair enough. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 18:19, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Blocking policy[edit]

no usernames which are hard to read or distinguish - Where did you pull that fucking nonsense from? AceModerator 03:06, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

From our guide - Your username can be anything but should not be offensive (racist, homophobic, pornographic etc.). AceModerator 03:10, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Creating an account with a name that impersonates another user's, is offensive, or is ridiculously complicated/long. This is an indefinite ban on sight. Users that have confusing or potentially disruptive usernames (e.g. 3029489032489208409284, GOOOAAAAAATTTTTT!!!) should be told to change to a more appropriate username. From RW:BLOCK. Techpriest (I am Alpharius! / Pencil.png / Tux icon.png / Shield.png) 07:55, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
So nothing like no usernames which are hard to read or distinguish. There was nothing wrong with that users initial name and you made up some bullshit rule on the fly. Don't do that. AceModerator 22:07, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Look, yell at Bongolian first. Bongolian moved the users page without notifying them. I considered the name "potentially disruptive" myself due to the lack of alphanumeric characters in it, so I opted them the opportunity to pick a better name. That said, this doesn't change that the name was likely potentially disruptive (weird to use in ping templates for example).
