"Charm offensive"[edit]

Uh, what is a charm offensive? "Fellow traveler"'s entry in the glossary refers to it as a "charm offensive" and then provides little other context. --Luigifan18 (talk) 21:17, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Anti-revisionism should not be included in this glossary[edit]

Nearly all Communists who support China, Russia, etc. reject Anti-revisionism as being "Ultra-left" and dogmatic. Further, nearly all Communists and Communist parties which identify with being Anti-revisionist understand China and Russia to be imperialist, and dislike other Communist Parties which generally fall into the Tankie grouping such as the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the Party of Communists USA, the Workers World Party etc.

Anti-revisionism is not solely characterized by its support for the leadership and legacy of Stalin, but also its rejection of revisionist trends in Marxism, which include Dengism, and the modern People's Republic of China in general. Because most CPC supporters are not Anti-revisionist, and reject Anti-revisionists, Anti-revisionism should not be included here. Wisconcom (talk) 21:35, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Is it not...rather odd to attempt to repurpose the hackneyed insult used against us for a political analysis of revisionism? Clearly, an anti-communist created this draft in the first place...not a principled communist adhering to anti-revisionism. "Tankie" is the modern-day form of "commie." It really is not worth trying to reclaim right now--April Chat? 22:16, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
The way I see it, all tankies are commies, but not all commies are tankies. Commies might just be well-intentioned but misguided or naïve. Tankies are completely batshit insane. --Luigifan18 (talk) 02:53, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Eh. It appears to mean the same thing as "communist" in many cases. If anything.. its meaning varies dramatically based on who's saying it.--April Chat? 15:04, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

We need to try to vet every single Wisconcom edit[edit]

Every single thing they post is suspect and I feel uncomfortable at how we're letting this user edit this page freely. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 06:00, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Let's try topic banning him Edward the eight (talk) 06:49, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
IDK he's going to get indef banned, and hopefully we could comb through those edits as soon as that happens. --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 06:57, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Definition.[edit]

Not everyone will be familiar with the term "Tankie". I think it needs to be clearly and - hopefully unambiguously - defined in the opening paragraph.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 16:11, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Yes, also every term needs a reference that confirms its usage before it sees the light of day. Bongolian (talk) 23:46, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

“W*stoid”[edit]

I’ve often seen this also used (albeit usually ironically) by balkaners, and members of “2[region]4you” subreddits in general. I don’t know if they do this to mock the tankies, or the alt-right (who also unironically use “Xoid” to slander groups they don’t like). Interesting, I didn’t know tankies used it too until I read this. --Goatspeed. Stalk meCircularREmail2.gifasoningSee what I've been messing around with 03:01, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

As someone who frequents leftist circles, there is a lot of overlap in lingo in online communities as phrases that RW considers to be exclusively alt-right or manosphere-centric have been disseminated to wider audiences that aren't necessarily part of the alt-right or manosphere communities. "Based" and "chad/virgin" are now just part of the lingo of the extremely online in general, and no longer really signify ideological allegiance. There is also pushback to the usage of "-oid" in non-tankie circles as it is ableist. See the "dirtbag left" for people who use phrases like "-oid" and whatnot. Carthage (talk) 03:13, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
I agree on “based”, which I’ve often seen used by comments sections in Gay YouTube to describe examples of valid allyship, resilience by interviewed gay boomers/silent-generationers who survived the AIDS pandemic/the sadly suicide-fueling environment they grew up in/etc., or the bravery of LGBTQ people in rabidly-homophobic places like Russia or to a lesser extent post-Covid Florida. Whereas it’s more notably used by allegedly sOoPeR-sTr8 14-year-old edgelords who want Ruzzia to win because a pride parade was held in their neighborhood and think a sexual demographic who routinely wear the US flag on beachwear and fill their bedrooms with similar merch are “disrespectful” of the US because their big holiday is (rather selectively) milked by Big Retail at roughly the same time of year that July 4th is --Goatspeed. "Based" wasn't even alt-right in the first place. They appropriated it from a black musician, "Lil B", who used it to mean exactly the opposite from how they used it. I think it generally remains helpful to retain entries for words that are used by these milieus, even if they aren't exclusive to them. Chillpilled (talk) 07:03, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
