Archives for this talk page: , (new)

There are 14 pages marked as duplicates:

Please use this page to highlight any examples you find of duplicate articles or other pages which you believe should be merged. Create a new section for each case, linking to the articles concerned.

Please also put the template {{dup|x}} at the top of each of the duplicate articles, replacing "x" with the name of the article which should be merged into. Doing so shows that the articles have been identified as duplicates and gives a link to here, where editors can discuss merging the articles.

If you have a comment or objection regarding any of the proposed merges below, please add your comment and sign your name with ~~~~.

If a decision is made to merge the articles, please look through both articles and ensure that you copy or incorporate any relevant content from both into the final version. The title that ends up not being used can then be replaced with a redirect to the other. The {{dup}} template should be removed from both articles.

If a decision is made not to merge the articles, the {{dup}} template should be removed from both pages.

Finished discussions should be archived periodically.

Merge Holy water with Baptism[edit]

Baptism is just the use of holy water, so it’s confusing to have two separate articles. Allgoodusernamesweretaken (talk) 04:27, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

I'd support a reverse merge, as Baptism is the shorter article. Andrew5 (talk) 14:27, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
I would oppose merging. Baptism should cover the ritual and holy water should be about other beliefs and folklore related to holy water as well as how unsanitary it is. No merge. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 00:43, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Merge CBD with Cannabis[edit]

HamburgerPlate Spinning-Burger.gif (talkstalk) 04:07, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

@CheeseburgerFace We actually have a subsection on it in the main Cannabis article. You think we can easily fit that CBD article into the already-large Cannabinoids subsection? --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png 🎄LeftyGreenMario!🎄(Mod) 03:08, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
Merge!—ClickerClock (talk) 10:52, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
CBD doesn't really fit in the Cannabis article. Each entry in the Cannabinoids section is arranged into a short claims and research findings bullet list. The CBD article doesn't compress well into the bullet list format. I vote goat on this. Cosmikdebris (talk) 00:36, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
Gotta support at least a redirect. Easy way to remove a stub, and article unlikely to be able to improve. Andrew5 (talk) 15:35, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Waterboarding and Torture[edit]

The section "Does it work?" of the waterboarding article is more general info that belongs under torture. —Kazitor, pending 12:16, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Merge!—ClickerClock (talk) 10:52, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
I'm kinda iffy about this one. Sure they are related, but I still can't see an easy merge. Andrew5 (talk) 22:50, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

Merge CANZUK with White Commonwealth[edit]

These are basically the same idea for the same 4 countries. Bongolian (talk) 00:14, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Seconded. ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 00:16, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
IMHO, it better to fork from it, as it is a version of the White Commonwealth, eg "see more: CANZUK". However, I wrote out a more substantive article and it is more information about it, there is quite a bit of stuff to put on. which I would put on in due course. As an academic once said, "It is old wine in new bottles". Euromec (talk) 04:11, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
I agree with Euromec, there is a lot of information on CANZUK. Perhaps some of the more benign information from its Wikipedia page could be copied over to the article here? Continuing on Euromec's analogy, old wine in new bottles is, to many, new wine. Dihydromonoxide (talk) 14:26, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm fine with either suggestion. However, I don't think it should be kept. Neither page has a brainstar, merging would possibly improve quality. Andrew5 (talk) 23:41, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I think there is consensus to merge, but I won't do so as I have voted. Andrew5 (talk) 02:38, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

Police brutality and Draft:Race and police brutality in the United States[edit]

These articles are very similar. Kevs Ping! 06:40, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

one's still a draft, shouldn't merging be done post draft?Vorarchivist (talk) 16:02, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi! Sorry that I'm pretty late to this. If I remember correctly, an article on racism and police brutality in the US was on the to-do list as an article to write, which is why I started a new draft. I'm still working and chugging along (though I'm having trouble functioning and getting things done), but if it still isn't sufficiently unique after more development, I don't mind merging. Quantumgeek333 (talk) 03:11, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Strong oppose It's an acceptable context fork, and it's still a draft. it would bloat them. Andrew5 (talk) 19:28, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Periodic table” and “List of elements in the periodic table[edit]

𝗦𝗾𝗿𝘁-𝟭 talk stalk 12:31, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

  • Support, because both articles need work, but can you please add links next time? This is annoying.Andrew5 (talk) 16:47, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Merge Inedia into Fasting[edit]

Inedia is a stub, and Fasting#Inedia also has low content. Even if merged, it would not bloat the articles. As such I am proposing a merge. Andrew5 (talk) 20:29, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Merge Genetic drift, Gene flow and Allele into DNA[edit]

The first 3 are tiny stubs, better contained in this article.Andrew5 (talk) 16:48, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Just do it 2600:4040:475E:F600:B19D:E7A:74B5:81E8 (talk) 02:30, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
This isn't an easy merge, some input would be nice. Entries on this page go for years so 7 months isn't that long. Andrew5 (talk) 23:08, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
  • No. The first 3 do not belong in the last one. DNA is just the chemical. The first two pertain to population genetics, which is closer to evolution and the genome. The third pertains to the genome. Any merging of these should not take place unless there is someone willing to do it who is competent enough not to screw it up. Bongolian (talk) 23:43, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
I think another point can be made that genetics can also be applied to hypothetical biochemistries and whatnot. Any self-replicating process or mechanism will eventually develop errors in the code (think "mutations"). The rules and principles of genetics would presumably still apply regardless of the underlying medium. Vee (talk) 00:52, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

Merge small government, laissez-faire and Minarchism[edit]

While these concepts are slightly different, I don't think we need articles for all of them. Maybe we should redirect them all to free market. GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 20:24, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

I dunno, you can argue some strains of anarcho-communism and general libertarian socialism are left-wing minarchism. Vee (talk) 01:01, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Merge Draft:Free Software with Free and open-source software[edit]

Several things listed in Draft:Free Software are already covered in some extent in Free and open-source software such as the Four Freedoms and difference between free software and open source. Topics like Copyleft vs permissive licenses can be merged. Valeria22 (talk) 00:28, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Merge Hbdchick with Notable racialists[edit]

Hbdchick is a random twitter-reposter and former blogger who just barely warrants a dedicated article here. The entire Hbdchick article can easily be compressed into a single paragraph and merged into Racialism#Notable_racialists, leaving only a redirect. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 16:16, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Analysis of the Lenski Paper into Richard Lenski[edit]

Both articles are relatively short, and Analysis of the Lenski Paper is almost completely unsourced--2600:4040:475E:F600:81C5:25DA:2CA2:FF8B (talk) 17:45, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
