Sympathy for the truck driver[edit]

Umm yeah... he wound up involuntarily (I sure hope) being the instrument by which someone's life was taken; I'd feel pretty shitty if I were he. WalkerWalkerWalker 19:57, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Concern Troll Bullshit ahead!

"8chan (or infinitechan) is a message board in the style of various imageboards such as 4chan, launched in 2013. The site claims to remove content only when it violates United States federal law, justifying this policy as the exercise of free speech. When it was launched, it gained prominence among Gamergate supporters in August 2014 when their fondness for doxxing got too much even for 4chan to put up with."

I am just wondering, why the passive aggressive jab at gamergate? This is just a barefaced lie more or less. — Unsigned, by: 86.187.166.58 / talk

The dust is settled, Gamergate is a complete laughingstock (though with many victims). I don't see the controversy? Is there some technicality that's missing? --It's-a me, Lgm sigpic.png LeftyGreenMario! 19:28, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Rename to 8kun?[edit]

At the moment 8kun redirects to 8chan. It could perhaps be more useful to flip the redirect around. 8kun slightly overtakes 8chan in coverage on Google search if you're the type to care about SEO. Opening this up as an avenue for discussion, vote following for a flip in like 24 hours or if discussion goes nowhere. gooood question. Which is searched for more? - David Gerard (talk) 13:42, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Here's the google trends stats. They seem to be mostly competing in the past 12 months for which one is more popular. A few interesting things to note:
  • 8chans "related queries" are almost all exclusively related to Qanon shit. Makes sense since it's just about the only thing the site is known for in the past year.
  • On the other hand, 8kuns "related queries" show a slight more degree of diversity, with uh fetish material being a common related query for the site.
  • Statistically, 8kun is somewhat more searched for more often than 8chan at a glance (compare the "search interest" map results for two countries).
Reading from this, I would personally say that 8kun is at least at present somewhat more popular, on account of QAnon. Jim Watkins burying the 8chan name also means that I don't think the site is gonna twist in name anytime soon (which on a personal level kinda irritates me since 8kun is a corruption of the etymology behind the naming of these imageboards but I digress). Paragraph 4[edit]

Could 'Until recently' have an actual date (even 'half decade') for clarity. Anna Livia (talk) 17:18, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

I really dislike when people use the term "recently" on a wiki, then never come back in six months and remove it. I've changed the opening sentence to this paragraph removing the word. —cosmikdebris talk stalk 17:28, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia usually adds a 'query - when?' ('Early/mid/late 2010s' etc would
Have changed the start of the last paragraph ('embers of life' sentence for those looking somewhat in the future) for the same reason. Anna Livia (talk) 17:48, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
