"Hi Guys" Guy[edit]

Hi Guys. This is one of the least rational pages I've seen. You're not going to get very far if you dismiss all the information someone you disagree with on as bullshit.

I don't know about the history of the Illuminati, but what I do know is that:

-Freemasonry is an institution dominated by powerful and influential figures from different backgrounds throughout history -Top universities are known for doing weird stuff in exclusive private clubs -Universities and large cities such as London and New York are known for having private, invitation-only clubs, which tend to invite influential people as members

- The "Satanic" rituals and symbols found in Masonic lodges, books, films and popular culture are a collection of ancient myths, supernatural beings, superstitions and religious cults, often associated with the "occult": i.e. superstitious practises which are said to provide people with magic or psychic powers.

- There are some "evil" gods and spells, or "black" magicians, according to these practises, but if you're part of a fundamentalist, organised-religion type group, it's easy to dismiss ANY worship or following of deities as "evil", because they're considered blasphemous.

Hi, unsigned user. A few questions.
First, is it significant if Freemasonry has members who are powerful and influential? Anyone who has power and influence will naturally tend to dominate any organization they're a member of. If Barack Obama joins my chess club, I guarantee you we're not talking about chess as much.
Second, why is it surprising that top universities have private clubs that would like to have influential members?
Third, can you demonstrate that "satanic" or "occult" rituals, texts, or other practices have any of the power that they claim? If they do not, then so what? Same question about gods or magicians, evil or otherwise. Memesis (talk) 02:31, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

How did...[edit]

...an obscure group that formed 1776 and disappeared 1789 somehow become the center of innumerable conspiracies? The Heidelberg Kid (talk) 15:28, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

A rather good and humorous explanation. TyAnnoy 15:30, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Eh, it felt like the article oversimplified it so the author could take a shot at christian fundamentalists. Some christians did play a part, but there were much deeper forces involved and more people who felt threatened by the illuminati than just fundies. The order was active at the height of the enlightenment, as the traditional powers in europe were losing power and the counter-enlightenment was in full swing. Many rulers at the time were suspicious of Freemasonry, which attracted intellectuals with the promise of occult knowledge and secrecy. A few branches of freemasonry were politically active, but not many. When the illuminati was finally exposed, people seized on the fact as 'proof' of a Masonic take-over, even though the exposure was largely the result of the activities of a rival masonic organization, the Gold und- Rosenkreutz society (which was also politically active, but on the side of the conservatives). People freaked out and, in typical 18th century style, started writing pamphlets. Adam Weishaupt, the founder of illuminati, wrote a few pamphlets trying to correct public opinion, but it was too little too late. Shortly after, things took a regrettable turn with the French Revolution, a product of the same Enlightenment ideology that had led to the illuminati. In 1797, Augustin Abbé Barruel began publishing a lengthy exposé of the order: "Memoirs Illustrating the History of Jacobinism", published around the same time as Robison's book, presenting some well-researched evidence on the illuminati's role in the French Revolution (although his main argument is flawed, a surprising amount of his facts are correct). Both of these books made their way across the pond to America and became extremely popular. George Washington seems to have been recommend one of these books in a letter and Thomas Jefferson was deeply impressed by Weishaupt's philosophy. The illuminati never came to America (only one confirmed illuminatus, Johan Caspar Schweizer, ever visited the place), but the illuminati paranoia did. Reverend Jedidiah Morse (the "illuminate morse" from Jefferson's letter) began to preach against the illuminati, who he believed to be behind the sorry moral state of America in the 1790s. This caused a panic, which was exploited by the Federalist Party in an attempt to gain power. While the Federalists failed, the New England Illuminati Scare had a huge impact on American politics; a detailed disection of it can be found here. There have been a number of excellent academic surveys of the illuminati over the years, none of which have been translated into english. None of the original writings of the illuminati, some of which are online btw, have been translated. Some of the most important documents remain locked away in Berlin and Moscow archives. You see the problem here, right? While 'Ancient Aliens' has at least some experts working hard on debunking it, there's really nobody to stand up for the illuminati. As time goes on it just becomes more and more absurd; people start building on other conspiracy theories instead of the facts. Bill Cooper, ironically, had a great quote about building a mountain of lies out of a single truth, which is what most people do with the illuminati. ...if that makes sense Montgelas (talk) 21:30, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Reasons for claims of their intervention[edit]

Good marketing.

  • Selecting a memorable 'brand name.'
  • The Protestant publishers who used 'banned by the Vatican' as a marketing ploy (and Pope Benedict XVI is from Bavaria).
  • Persons looking for someone to blame (apart from their own incapabilities) - 'no smoke without a fire, no fire without someone starting it.'
  • Persons wanting a subject to write about looking for "group not overly written about" - there are 'rather a lot' of books about the Masons, and the Illuminati are 'summat like them, and there must be more to their disappearence than everybody involved turned to other things such as the French Revolution.
  • Dead Parrot syndrome. [1]

Any more reasons? 212.85.6.26 (talk) 15:38, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

"Secret" Society[edit]

The secret world ruling society that is so scret, that everyone knows about it and it appears in childrens televisions shows such as gargoyles and honey I shrunk the kids where they are easily defeated and thrwarted making them look like idiots. As well as 1 or 2 documentaries that appear every dayo n the history channel, it is amazing how many leaks there is for an organization that supposedly controls ALL MEDIA . . . also I am being sarcastic. 71.238.243.98 (talk) 13:36, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Ah, but have you never heard of a double bluff? (and I echo your sarcasm before Captain Obvious gets on my case again.)--Weirdstuff (talk) 13:45, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

the Eye[edit]

I gotta mention something I "love" abotu these conspiracy theoriests. Tehy claim the all seeing eye is a subliminal message (that always appears in the same occult context in cartoons) . . . but 90% of the time, it isnt even the proper symbol, its just an eyeball on a pyramid. Not an eyeball, in a triangle, above an unfinished pyramid. one owuld think the illimuninati wouldnt screw up their own symbol. 71.238.243.98 (talk) 13:42, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

This pisses me off[edit]

I haven't seen a single musician, song, video game, etc. That wasn't accused of being part of the illuminati/satanism. Apparently, Super Mario 64 is Illuminati because of some eyes in the game, and a sun painting on the castle floor. One thing that makes me angry is that J-pop, as lighthearted as it is, I searched "J-pop Illuminati", and yep, hundreds of Youtube videos about it. I just want to enjoy the Goddamn videogame/song, and these idiots have to ruin it for me.--TemplarJLS (talk) 07:10, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, it really does piss me off. Weren't those eyes enemies that you had to kill? This is like that one time I saw some chud try to associate gravity falls with the illuminati simply because the design of the main villian, bill cipher, was based on the illuminati's alleged symbol. — Unsigned, by: 2600:6c63:637f:e920:3461:7e40:31a4:138c / talk

Fake sites[edit]

Is it worth mentioning there are fake sites that claim to be the illuminati recruiting people? To be honest that's one of the most desperate attempts at "proving" they're real because they immediately cease to be secret. I was just wondering if this is worth mentioning.--TemplarJLS (talk) 10:58, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Illuminati.am[edit]

I've seen this website passed around the Internet a bit. Seems Legit.

It's mostly very basic scams. They use social media influence and a well-designed website to encourage true believers into thinking they're organized without revealing any legitimate information about their organization to the public. For that, you have to buy a book (which doesn't actually contain any evidence, just a wordy and well-put-together explanation for how the Illuminati controls the world. Hint: It's all subliminal messaging, symbolism, and the usual conspiracy theory explanations for why there's no evidence, but that you should still believe the claims anyway.) and then you show your support by buying variations of a necklace with the website's logo.

Admittedly, it's well-crafted, and it doesn't help that Facebook considers the page to be verified. What Facebook is likely verifying is that the page is officially linked to the website, but that's not the impression someone who truly believes is going to take home with them.

For what it's worth, the website seems to promote a secular, humanitarian message of hope (which is way better than the usual Satanic crap which usually gets spread around alongside the name "Illuminati"). They also seem to encourage members not to fear and to trust that the Illuminati is here to save the day. If it weren't for the fact that someone is profiting off of mental illness, I'd say this website was doing a service to the Illuminati conspiracy.

Help trying to stop believing in the Illuminati[edit]

First of all sorry for my bad english, English isn't my first language.

Hi, I'm a person who is EXTREMELY paranoid over the ILluminati, because of the Youtube videos over all of it. There are soooo many people claiming to be whistleblowers, like Ted Gunderson, andJohn Todd (And a LOT MORE), and there are just an overwhelming abount of videos on Youtube trying to expose them. I know outside my mind they don't exist, but inside my mind, in my subconcious, they do, because my mind can't get over the fact that there are so many Youtube videos of Whistleblowers, Exposing Chemtrails, Sandy Hook, 9/11/Freemasons/Illuminati Symbolism, etc. It has actually been affecting my life VERY negatively, in that I can't do ANYTHING fun, and I can't sleep at night because off it. There used to be things I REALLY enjoyed, and now, I can't.

There is this girl named tila tequila who is a er... pron star (no i dont watch it, I just found her through the videos on the right), claiming to expose the Illumianti, and everything.

Apparently, all the mainstream media are shills to the illuminati because they control them and that is why thjere are no whistleblowers taken seriously.

Not onky that but I've also seen inside freemason lodges, the bohemin grove, ect, and they looked like they were doing satanic things over there.

sorry for the long pos, but Im just VERY worried.

If they're as powerful as that, why can't they be bothered to even use youtube's hilariously-easy-to-abuse copyright reporting system to get those videos taken down? King Skeleton (talk) 10:27, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
ive actually asked a conspiracy theorist That and he said it is because if they take down the youtube videos it would be obvoius, and therefore they should keep them up, that way we would be tricked into thinking they're fake since the video's arent getting removed.--SRXpert (talk) 10:38, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
So taking down the videos would be obvious, whereas dancing around a giant owl like a bunch of prats and peeing in the woods is totally secret? The whole illuminati conspiracy theory is a classic example of ad hoc rationalisation, having the conspiracy randomly alternating between omnipotent, useless, smart and stupid just to fit the evidence. If they don't want to be discovered, they wouldn't do their silly rituals outdoors. If they don't care if they're discovered, there wouldn't be a laundry list of people they allegedly killed because they were on to them.
It's also a classic example of a deliberately unfalsifiable theory; a theory that can include everything explains nothing. If positive evidence is evidence, negative evidence is evidence (that they hid the real evidence) and no evidence is evidence (that they hid all the evidence), what's the point of even looking at the evidence? King Skeleton (talk) 11:10, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I rather believe that this is a variation of JAQing off. The OP, I mean. Scream!! (talk) 13:21, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

You're right, but who cares: taking apart bad arguments is fun. The tricky truth is this: believing in the existence of a group called "the Illuminati" doesn't really mean much. As an organization, they'd suffer all the same stupid infighting, stupid mistakes, and loss of allies that holds every other political group back from perpetual dominance. Think about the inability that the real secretive organization, the CIA, has with getting everything we know they want. And they're both extremely funded and extremely connected. Imagining some other, more private, secret super group to be somehow more powerful, and getting more unpopular, less covert objectives done easily is just silly. Ikanreed (talk) 14:08, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

The Christian Bible[edit]

Let's say the Illuminati exist. They have UNLIMITED POWER, manipulate history, who goes in office, what music we listen to, TV shows we watch, etc. And they made EVERY RELIGION except Christianity... See the problem? It debunks itself.
If they're so satanic and want us to go to hell, why didn't they modify the christian bible? To say they corrupt, manipulate, and change EVERYTHING except for the bible, that's downright Special pleading! They have EVERY capability to do so, I'm sure! They don't even need to ban it, they just fucking modify it.

Basically: We have NO WAY to know the true faith if the Illumianti exist. The Bible, the inerrant, infallible Divine Revelation designed to keep us from hell, how do we know it wasn't modified??? Basically: We're screwed.--サトセレ (talk) 04:19, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

We're only screwed if the orignal books of the bible were true, and the the Illuminati a)exist and b) edited the Bible. Or you could just drama about some conspiracy theory you can't be arsed looking into properly. SophieWilderModerator 11:01, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
That's what I'm saying. I don't believe they exist. I DO believe, though, if they did exist, and they wanted to keep people from the "true faith" (Whatever that is), then instead of going about thousands of years of staging wars, putting symbolism in media, and everything else they allegedly did, why didn't they simply change the Bible? It would save a lot of time I'm sure.--サトセレ (talk) 06:26, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

A: What problem? Of course it exists. Go watch the Documentary the Killuminati. It's your wake up call Christian Bible thumper... 1. Who said they have unlimited power? Only you did Bible 2. They have manipulated history. They destroyed everything. The dollar bill even says "In God we Trust" The problem is...Which God are they referring to in 2014? 3. No, Again, I don't see the problem. I'm debinking you now.

1. They want us to join them and give up our free agency einstein. 2. They did modify the bible...The original 1611 has been mocked and re written by every new age bible theorist. Get your facts straight Forrest Gump. 3. They did fucking modify it. You have no clue of even the God head. This is the great secret. They pushed the I AM movement and you bought into it. They own you. The Killuminati will wake your sorry ass up.

Why exactly do you guys not like YouTube for evidence?

You never know. With the sheer amount of videos there are, one is BOUND to have evidence of conspiracies.

I just never understood why you dismiss YouTube so readily that's all.— Unsigned, by: 70.210.151.191 / talk / contribs 02:52, 6 January 2015‎

Anybody can create a youtube video and say whatever they like. If you met a man in a bar who said he's been kidnapped by a yeti and had made passionate love to it - would you believe him? You would certainly have no reason to. Youtube videos have as much authority as a guy giving his opinion in a bar. He may be telling the truth - or it may be complete rubbish.--Bob"I think you'll find it's more complicated than that." 12:16, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
By the way that applies to the rest of the internet as well. The question is - has the data been published in a reputable, peer-reviewed journal?--Bob"I think you'll find it's more complicated than that." 12:19, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Of course not. If someone tried the illuminati would suppress it. Everyone knows that. Doxys Midnight Runner (talk) 13:39, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
More seriously...okay, example. There's a guy on YouTube who believes the moon is a hologram projected at 55,000 up and the real moon was stolen in the early 90s. And he believes this because his crappy video camera shows some chromatic aberration of the moon when he takes video of it. That is, the moon has a bit of a purple edge on one side because his crappy camera doesn't focus well on a bright object at high level of zoom. This is wrong is all kinds of ways. I've also seen a youtube video of a woman saying that her sprinkler making a rainbow was proof of chemicals being put into water because water only makes a rainbow when it's got chemicals on it, like gasoline. This, too, is wrong in multiple directions (but not as much as "The Moon's Been Stolen" dude)
These people have incomplete information, or misunderstand what information they do possess. It isn't evidence of a conspiracy, it's just sad, man. And if there really IS a world-running illuminati conspiracy with enough competence to steal the moon, anyone with actual evidence is going to be taken out in a hurry, and their youtube channel scrubbed. So it's a safe bet that if someone's got three hundred videos on chemtrails and hidden satanic signs and demons being in airplanes, they're not actually onto anything. --Maxus (talk) 07:26, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

The symbolism is everywhere[edit]

Please hear me out, okay?

First of all, I know you guys usually dismiss any Illumianti symbolism as being satire or mocking us, or somethign like that. understandable, considering the way some shows work.

Gravity falls for example. search for symbolism in Gravity falls, you'll get so much symbolism, that it's impossible to not think it's satire, correct?

Well that doesn't explain other TV shows, movies, Video games, etc. They're fucking everywhere! Almost literally too! I don't see how it could be satire if it's happening everywhere! Look up any tv show you like, and see what symbolism is in it.

For example, I've seen in your forums a video about the Saturn cult. Another about Loony Toons. You dismiss them as mocking. Guess what? There were TV shows that had these symbols before the Internet, Loony Tunes for example! Why would they be mocking us if we weren't loud enough for everyone to hear? Not many peopel before the internet know about the Illuminati, or even heard about it! Yet it's all there!

Back to Gravity Falls. Look beyond the more obvious symbolism that you call satire in it. If you click the Google results I gave you, you'll notice there's symbolism that is way, WAY too subtle to be satire. Not only that, but while the Vigilant Citizen's article on them was... lacking, the comments section found more subtle symbolism.

Another question, again about gravity falls. Please note I'm using Gravity falls because it's a perfect example of truth hidden as satire: Why are they putting this crap on a kid's show? Why not put the "satire" on a show where people would get the satire? I understand you guys can't help but mock us due to the more kooky ones (Search RICK THORNE on Youtube).

Plus we have no room to talk on misrepresenting satire either (Search "The Daily Sheeple")

However, why a kid's show? They most likely wouldn't get the references!

Keep in mind though, I've never gotten an answer to these questions.--Watchlok (talk) 17:24, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Placing symbols everywhere is how They keep you distracted with pointless bullshit. So I can only conclude that you are working for Them. CorruptUser (talk) 17:35, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Pointless Bullshit? why would they put them everywhere, though? Why would they go to these lengths to mock us? Better yet, if there isn't an Illuminati, why does every single company that makes said media feel the need to mock us?

I'm not only talking about Gravity Falls. Calling that Satire, I might understand the misconception. It's things that don't even try to bring attention the symbols are there. L.A. Noire has the Eye of Providence on a skyscraper in the intro. Loony Tunes alludes to 666 so much, and that was a program created before the internet was created, so we weren't vocal enough to mock.

It would be understandable if it was a handful of tv shows created when the Illuminati became a more high-profile Conspiracy. Gravity Falls fits the bill in that case.

But not only is the symbolism literally everywhere, but before the internet was created! even cartoons from the 40s! That's what makes it suspicious. Loony Tunes was created long LONG before we were known mainstream. It has symbolism. A video about that is in your forums when I looked.

I'm sorry for making this lenghty. I thought I explained myself well enough. However, in case It's me who doesn't understand what you're saying...

Placing symbols everywhere is how They keep you distracted with pointless bullshit. So I can only conclude that you are working for Them.

Please elaborate? Because it looks like you restated exactly what I am askign about.--Watchlok (talk) 17:58, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Have you ever considered the possibility that
  • you are seeing symbols that aren't intentional in the first place (if you have a sheet a graph paper you have a sheet of hundreds of overlapping swastikas! Graph paper is made by nazis!)
  • sometimes people add the symbols intentionally as an inside joke
  • you are no where near as bright as you think you are, and clinging to conspiracy theories is the easiest way your ego can make you feel "special" CorruptUser (talk) 18:08, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Fucking seriously[edit]

Gravity falls is conspiracy fiction, dummy. It's a show that takes this kinda idiotic shit and makes it entertaining through a process called "writing". The fuck is wrong with you poeple that you see idiot ideas being used in fiction and go "AHA, that's reality!". Do you think superheroes are real because of Marvel movies? Do you think time travel is real because of back to the future? Do you have any idea how far off the rails you are? ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 18:12, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

But DC make superhero movies too, so superheroes must be real. BicyclewheelModerator 20:04, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Do you think superheroes are real because of Marvel movies? Actually, I've seen alot of CT video's on YT and I can tell you that they don't think they're real, but that Marvel is some sort of evil company that is trying to push the transhumanist agenda. Why this shit is falling flat on it's face, is because they also hate Batman and throw him under the same roof. Not realising that Batman has NO superpowers AT ALL and that he is just a dude with a cape that wanted to fight crime in Gotham City after his parents were murdered in an alley by robbers...

Sheeple...[edit]

People are so dumb they'll have to be sacrificed in a ritual to satan before they believe in it. In other words when it's too late they'll wake up. They don't research and those who claim they do, they don't. They just go around talking shit. "prove the illuminati exists?" there's nothing to prove anymore. It's EVERYWHERE. Those who say it doesn't exist. Don't look into things at all. They're just that stupid. They waste their lives with all these dots, dots being: sports, games, music, education that only leads to being a puppet. The only thing important is finding truth and seeking it day after day after day for the rest of your life. The ones who seek the truth will find it, the others will remain blinded. It's insane to say the illuminati ain't real. Those people are so blind It's unbelivable. It's right infront of you everyday and you can't see it. That's a confirmation they're blind. Can't use lies to find truth with. Truth is the truth and won't go away. Lies will pull you away from truth through ridicule and violently oppossing it. Cartoons is a way to get to your kids and brainwash them early same happened with most people including me, before I woke up. Been awake for over 6 years now and I only know more and more about it everyday. Just more confirmation of it being so. It's out there all information. People need to wake up and realize the world is not what you where told that it was. This is going on and you need to snap out of the hypnotic trance. Thinking you're awake while you're actually asleep. Lack of knowledge is nothing to be proud of and the argument people say about the illuminati is ridiculus. They don't have one. They just say "this guy is nuts" and that's it. That's all they had to put on the table and give it a thumb down... it's like..how more brainwashed can one get? they DON'T EVEN THINK. They just assume they're correct. Cause they've been brainwashed by a simple technique called "repeating" If you repeat something, sooner or later people will take it as fact. While it's in reality a theory. The illuminati don't expose themselves really, but their puppets are dumb enough to sometimes. They even admit they worship the devil some of them. People need to WAKE UP, you have no argument. This is the truth. Snap out of the trance you've been kept in your entire life. — Unsigned, by: Killuminati2015 / talk / contribs 09:20, 30 July 2015‎

I may be a sheep, but I know how to use whitespace. Sheesh. Worm (talk) 09:32, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Uh. Let's see if we can summarize this mess.
  • "People are skeptical of the Illuminati's existence." Well, yeah, that's the rational position to take. Unless evidence has been presented for a claim, withholding belief makes sense.
  • "The burden of proof for their existence has been met by a preponderance of evidence." Great, then you should have no shortage of examples to cite. Only remember the rules of Evidence - mere fact (like "there's an eye with a pyramid on American money") is not sufficient. Facts are evidence if they point to one conclusion and no other. In the case of the Eye of Providence, there's several viable explanations, most of which don't require a functioning world-girding conspiracy.
  • "The truth is something that can be researched." Great, how would a typical researcher verify that somebody's random Geocities web page actually contains accurate fact, rather than just being the paranoid ravings of somebody with Internet access? I'm pretty sure that I could point to somebody's online blog that makes a claim you disagree with, so just what are the rules of research that you think will lead us to the same conclusions you've drawn? Do the claims you want us to look at withstand scrutiny?

Joe Rogan reference[edit]

Though not a skeptic (I got a bit carried away when I finally found something for that citation needed, sorry) I think that the reference is still suitable for the section.--WMS (talk) 00:47, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

"and the snakes living therein"[edit]

What does that actually mean? It's been plaguing me for months not knowing this phrase or reference.--WMS (talk) 02:22, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

It refers to the snakes that live inside the thing. I think. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 02:49, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Ah, alright. Thank you.--WMS (talk) 03:06, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Photoshopping[edit]

I've come across some photos purporting to prove The Beatles are in the Illuminati. The usual cliche 666 signs and all. Nothing special. I wouldnt have shared this here since its old news, but being the Beatles fanboy I am, I also know the promotional material for Yellow Submarine, and know some something is off. Theyre fake. Unsurprisingly too. It led to think that many, many other photos like this, ones I have simply dismissed as still frames or these people looking too much into this stuff, might be photoshopped, some surprisingly well for people that crazy. Despite the fact this is blatant propaganda, absolute bullshit, and sometimes painfully obvious, some people will fall for it, and delve into the realm of conspiracies, some too young for critical thinking, like I nearly have. I personally think an addition to this article about photo-shopping symbols and all that is warranted. I can easily do this myself tomorrow, but I want to make sure I am not the only one with this opinion before I start screwing around with uploading photos on here the first time.--Spoony (talk) 02:02, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
