Wrong Wiki; you need to delete it from Wikimedia Commons before it will stop showing up here. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 03:32, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Why are you deleting the image description page? It's not a duplicate, the image is still hosted on Commons, the RW image description page only serves to categorize the page and add the NSFW tag for filtering. -- Nx / talk 16:55, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
That's why I'm deleting it. Are you the NSFW police? Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svg 18:25, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
Well then you could've said that instead of bullshitting and transferring the file to commons in an attempt to circumvent the filtering. And an image with a penis in it is NSFW. -- Nx / talk 18:42, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
I'll figure out how to restore the RW version once Maratrean finishes censoring the image at the Commons and washes the sand out of his vag. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svg 18:29, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Politics and libel and whatnot[edit]

I'll chat about the whole thing again - I just won't do it there. So here is better, if you're amenable.

What is it you would like me to defend? Do you mean the general trend away from our anarchic roots, or do you have something more specific in mind? When I "libel" anarchy, after all, it's not out of any particular dislike for the way things used to work (i.e. Human usually got his way because he was the loudest and most persistent) but rather a belief that it just wasn't working very well anymore. While it did a good job in general, it fell disastrously apart when applied to any specific problem. No one was right and no one was wrong, there was just whoever was willing to sit there and revert the most, shout the longest, etc. In a competition sort of way, that anarchy is great and valuable, and should always be a big element of the site (as I think it still is). But I think we passed the point where it was efficient. Things like the "Trial of Human" and the dozen associated problems that dragged on for weeks are a good example of that. The scope was unlimited, everyone got upset and personally affronted, and so on. That's why I think the addition of some brakes was a good idea - ideally, the mods can now steer and slow such controversy, or even just avoid it if necessary, and keep the whole place still rolling. The engine will and should always be the mob - but hopefully now we'll avoid our frequent fender-benders along the way.--ADtalkModerator 02:22, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

It's all platitudes, AD. Marcus may be right about you. "[I]t fell disastrously apart when applied to any specific problem" - Where? When? The specific problem that led to all of this was what Huw did that led to him being cooped. The entire question of the propriety of him decratting Blue was a toss up due to what may or may not have been a poorly drafted provision in the crat protocol. Blue immediately overreacted (because she's a self-important teenage drama queen) and here we are. That's it. From day-one I advocated addressing what specific flaws in the protocols led to Huw being lynched that people could identify. Go look. I wrote his defense brief. It's in there. Nobody bit. I feel like I'm in an alternate universe of shrieking children running around with their hands over their heads praying for cover. A few of you pushed your agenda of throwing the baby out with the bathwater and imposing what amounts to martial law at any cost and here we are with you happily giving lip service to anarchy like you're doing it any honor or you've got a fair understanding of what it even means. You aren't and you don't. I'm laughing when I read you say you believe mods are merely "steering" and "slowing" controversy when you've been quite candid with others about viewing yourself as in a leadership role, even pretending to show vulnerability in order to curry the favor of users here. It is contemptuous. I object to and will continue to object to any notion that moderators are leaders. We are not. I've invited you and anyone else to discuss the scope of our mandate with me. You declined. In the absence of your, no doubt, compelling account in favor of your approach, I will continue to believe that these people deserve more than to be steered into handing their own right to self-determination over to those in a role that was never envisioned to do what some intend. "The scope unlimited." Oh balls. A relatively small conflict over a rights issue got lathered up into a big froth by Blue and a couple of shit stirring assholes (who continue to be openly reviled by both sides yet tacitly used as pawns by yours because of their sympathetic authoritarian bent), and finally by people like you who took the bait and started viewing what would have been a week of rubbish as a life changer. Don't get me wrong. While this wasn't that big a deal in early May, it's a real big deal now. The only question is how we get back to normal. I will show you. You are on the wrong path. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svg 03:04, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
With respect, you're slightly misrepresenting Human's chicken coop case. I did not request any penalties when I presented my complaint; SuspectedReplicant was the first to propose that Human lose his bureaucrat rights. I never created the furious mob; that was the combined efforts of many longtime editors. Blaming me and only me is a bit strange.
I would also like to know how you think you know my age, unless you meant "teenage" more figuratively than literally. Blue (is useful) 03:53, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's it. We're authoritarians for wanting people to stop acting like douches.--User:Brxbrx/sig 03:44, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see!
Okay, so MarcusCicero regularly emails me to brag about whatever he is doing or to try to taunt me. And now I see that he has been emailing you as well, and forwarding you things I have said to him - because that's the only way you could have concluded that "quite candid with others about viewing yourself as in a leadership role, even pretending to show vulnerability in order to curry the favor of users here." The only person to whom I have ever said anything of that nature is him.
It occurred to me just today, when he emailed me ("Nutty got you good, huh? :)") that he had probably been doing that. I had thought it wouldn't do any harm to privately taunt him on those occasions when he reached out to me, but I can see that's not the case - he's representing my mockery as my hidden secret agenda of leadership and manipulation. I guess I have to just block his email, since he can't even be trusted so far as to not pass on private correspondence. Aaaand done. Feeding trolls is a bad habit of mine, but I'm working on it.
So anyway, let me try to de-poison you: I have never feigned anything. When I have used any sort of tactics, they have been fairly forthright. For example, I often try to use levity and self-mockery, and jocular personal references, to try to defuse a building argument or soften a rhetorical blow. Like in my reply to you on the debate page recently, I mocked my own tendency towards grandiosity by doing that <INSERT METAPHOR> thing - because I know I'm kind of a douche who grasps at metaphors and platitudes sometimes. It humanizes the discussion, and I think it maybe helps things stay a little more grounded. So to some extent, I guess I am guilty of feigning stuff - although not to any nasty degree, since I really do like most people on RW, you included, and really do know that I can be a pedantic prick sometimes. My admission of those things might be useful to ameliorating vitriol, but it's also completely true.
When MC was emailing me, he was engaging in the fairly common trolling tactic of pretending that he had won, and showing contempt for my impassioned words calling for order and bemoaning how I was being treated. And so I wrote him back, recasting the debate entirely, to mock him with his total loss, instead. And while I'm not concerned if you think I am wrong on a broader level about how RW should be run - we have our differences and we are discussing them - I am concerned if you think that what I told him was representative of the truth. Let me take this opportunity to personally and directly assure you: I have never feigned emotions or espoused a vision of the moderator role or future of RW that I didn't personally believe. What I have publicly said is what I privately believe - not what I have mocked a troll with! You and I have exchanged email as well, and you have known me on RW for a while - I like to think you can consider everything, and see that I am truly in earnest. In sum: I might be wrong, but I'm not being deceitful. It is very important to me that you know that.
So anyway, back to the topic...
I agree with your recounting of the "Trial of Human" situation, but the point is that it spun out of control, and someone overreacted, and there was nobody who could step in and curtail it. It never should have gotten so far and consumed us all in drama. Your defense brief was ignored and things snowballed. And that wasn't good, and it wasn't necessary.
I agree that moderators aren't leaders because of their status. Instead, moderators have tended to be highly visible and vocal people even before their role, and it's only in that capacity that they are leaders. You are a leader, my friend, not because you're a moderator, but because you're a longtime Rationalwikian who is clever, analytic, and outspoken. And just so that doesn't seem like sucking up, I will add that you're also way too abrasive, inclined to personal attacks, and relentless. Look at your recent commentary on the voting standards thing for an example of leadership.
I would never say that the role of moderators or their scope was unlimited. My condensation and slight rearrangement of the "role of the mods" deal at ATIM is how I see the mods. Our scope is most importantly limited in time - mods shouldn't be making any permanent decisions on anything but the most minor matters. Beyond that, it's just stepping in on rare occasions to curtail serious building conflict, and bootstrapping rules where required (i.e. deciding on voting standards, until such a time as we hopefully vote site-wide on some uniform standards).
I'm sorry you think I'm just playing lip-service to anarchy. I had thought I had demonstrated otherwise. For example, I tried to get as much possible input from the mob at all points before setting up a vote on talk pages - getting commentary on an essay, asking about standards, asking for comments on the vote, etc. And I tried to make that vote as even-handed as possible, which is why my favored option got zero votes. For serious, I believe what I say.--ADtalkModerator 03:46, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Pi's random thoughts[edit]

If I could have one rule for this wiki it would be: anybody with the spare time to edit RationalWiki shouldn't be editing RationalWiki, only people with better things to do should be allowed to log in. This came to my mind after I logged in one Monday morning and sore a couple of users had been on a weekend long drama binge. FFS I am pretty sure it is Friday night were most you folk live, go out to a bar or something. - π Moderator 04:02, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm a year too young to go in a bar, and I'm exhausted from clinic anyways. I don't think that rule would work very well anyways, because everybody here, the "chill-the-fuck-outers" included, spend a lot of time neck deep in drama.--User:Brxbrx/sig 04:14, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Does peach describe the color or what you add to the Tesco grape juice before you ferment it in a plastic bucket? I must admit I've never had Peach Chablis. I assume you're not talking about a very dry Burgundy Chardonnay with subtle dirt overtones. These wines are more yellow/green than peach and contain only Burgundy Chardonnay grapes, so I am horrified that you're probably asking about fruit wine. It's not supermarket grape juice stuff, I stopped making that because tehmizzus doesn't like it. This is from a proper kit, £1 a bottle. There isn't much of a peach taste to it, it's more the colour. Was it the boge carto (the black one) or the clearo you tried? The boge are still my favorites at the moment. Puffing on one as I type :) CrundyTalk nerdy to me 14:28, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
The black one. I have a syringe from when I had to feed my cat while he was dying so filling the clear one is fine, but it's still unsettling to see a volume of brown liquid that I'm about to smoke sloshing around. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svg 14:32, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
