The Manosphere thing[edit]

I was planning to copy over the Wikipedia Manosphere article that I'd been working on (as an IP editor) when it seemed like it was going to be deleted but it looks like it's sticking with the relatively critical one at the moment. I'd be happy to contribute if somebody is up for creating one though --Drowninginlimbo (talk) 22:59, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

I'm working on (slowly - real life an a real job have changed my online editing habits) Rape Culture, but if no one has attacked manosphere in the next few days, maybe I will. If in the interim you move something over, then I'll just happily add to what you've already done. It's such an ugly set of topics, that I do indeed get burned out easily. One tin soldier (talk) 23:01, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
I might look into it. I currently have a lot going on too with work and University stuff but I might look into it. I'm just glad the Wikipedia article is sticking to be honest. I'm tempted to paraphrase some of what I wrote there for now, is that against the rules? If there is a draft function or something like that I could do so over the next week or so. I get what you mean, it physically tires me out if I focus too much on these disgusting places, but I also strongly feel that they should be contested --Drowninginlimbo (talk) 23:05, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Generally, it's always been assumed, I think, that if it's your words (especially if you are paraphrasing), then sticking it up at RW is fine. Just add a sprinkle of snark, and make sure it's not neutral pov, and all is good. Or so birds have told me. One tin soldier (talk) 00:14, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. If you'd like to contribute to the work-in-progress you can here: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/User:Drowninginlimbo/Sandbox --Drowninginlimbo (talk) 02:50, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

"Not ready for prime time"[edit]

(Context)

I'm glad you've found a subject you can dig your teeth into! For future reference, when doing rough drafts, instead of adding them to the article as a hidden comment (that was clever though — I've never thought of doing that!), you can just create User:One tin soldier/sandbox and write and revise away. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 02:58, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

On the other hand, if you put it in the article as a hidden comment, other people can help you with the revising or with general copy edit as I did, so it was actually a good idea! Nullahnung (talk) 03:15, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion. I was fully prepared to write that last night, when the prescription strength cough syrup took over, and every blink got longer and longer. ;-) I don't need to take the whole document at one time, to make a template, right? I can just pull one section at a time into my sandbox? I ask cause we have quite a few of these feminist pages that need overhauls, but doing the whole thing at once is often too daunting! One tin soldier (talk) 14:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

"the focus on middle class white women's issues with rape, access to abortion, etc."[edit]

Sounds like you have something to contribute to what I did earlier in the intersectionality article. Father Vivian O'Blivion (talk) 03:21, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

I really was going to! but I'm so stoned on cold medications, I can't seem to think for more than like 10 mintues at a time. and editing shoudln't be hap hazard like comments are. But I will! One tin soldier (talk) 03:57, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
Editing mainspace while under the influence of strong drugs is tolerated, if not encouraged. Have you not met Ace? Father Vivian O'Blivion (talk) 03:59, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
In a different lifetime, yes.One tin soldier (talk) 04:17, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

This is the way the world ends[edit]

Thanks to you coming around every so often in recent changes, I have a recurring earworm that goes something like, "There won't be any trumpets blowing, come the judgment day..."

I was in my mid-forties before I recognized what mansplaining felt like from my side of it. That says that there may or may not be hope. Meanwhile, I can only visualize whirled peas, and ask how things are going.

Not with a bang, but a whimper, Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 23:08, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

I heard that song for the first time when i was 3 or 4. my parents were both sorta hippies in the sense that they didn't walk out of society, but wanted liberation, civil rights, women's rights etc. Not sure why i used it here. sorry for the worm, though! ;-) One tin soldier (talk) 01:43, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
No worries, love, I've got a rotation of about a dozen tunes that come unbidden and go when they please. Sometimes I can identify what prompts them, other times not. One recurring bit on an old cartoon show had Bullwinkle the moose chanting "eenie meenie, chili beanie, the spirits are about to speak!"
His buddy the flying squirrel would always ask, "Are they friendly spirits?"
The tuneful demons that inhabit my skull are just about all friendly ones, if a bit mindless, not really infernal diabolical meanies. Makes them easier to embrace, often by picking up a horn or a string-box and playing their tune out loud. Not sure when I first heard that song. I associate it with sitting at a repair bench, fixing toasted amplifiers and doing oil changes on record turntables, so middle twenties. I will spare you the rest of my life story ;-) just wanted to say it's nice of you to be here. Be well! Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 15:44, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
And thanks for the welcome! One tin soldier (talk) 16:53, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Misinterpretation[edit]

Sorry about my misinterpretation on David's talk page! I misread what you wrote and thought you were saying you felt as though things were slipping more towards an old boys' club. My apologies for not reading more carefully! - Grant (talk) 03:18, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

No biggie. I'm just sorta protective of the good things about RW, and the pro-women, pro-gay and especially pro trans (which is uber unusual) parts of this site matter to me. :-) One tin soldier (talk) 03:57, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Understandable! It is indeed good to see such a friendly environment on RW towards traditionally mistreated groups, and I agree that should remain that way going forward. :) - Grant (talk) 04:54, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Citation needed[edit]

I had my runins with Ace in another life time, when I was working on mansplaining, as he spent days getting offended that I would dare claim "men" do this. Citation needed. Should be easy - talkpages are never deleted or burnt. Acei9 07:59, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

You're like my husband. "taped or video proof you/I said X, or it didn't happen." I like you Ace, always have, strangely. But I'm not going to justify how i felt then, about something you said. And if that means "Then I have no reason to take anything you say as valid and will tell others not to accept your word", that's fine, i accept that is the consequence of dropping an argument. One tin soldier (talk) 14:36, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Well, how you felt doesn't mean I was saying what you think I saying. My arguments on the mansplaining page were geared towards how it was so broad as to cover anything anyone might say ever and I stand by that and the talkpage record will reflect that. But thanks for relying on discussion rather than invective. Acei9 20:55, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
