My apologies...[edit]

My apologies for changing your comment, the edit conflict interrupted my delivery and I wasn't thinking fast enough to find a better solution than bulldozing you. In retrospect, something along the lines of "Ignore this fascist source Pippa has provided you with, everything you need to know about chavs you'll find here." It seems my impatience only served to burn a bridge.--User:Brxbrx/sig 21:23, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Aniridochrysamphorist[edit]

That's the one who doesn't believe there is a pots of gold at the end of rainbows. I created the word on pattern of a-the-ism which is Greek. An- not, iris/iridi- rainbow, chryso- gold, amphora- vase, +ist/+ism as can be guessed. A good argument against our opponents, the iridochrysamphorists, is that the rainbow has no real end: it's circular, but the ground is hidding the lower part. The most common counterargument from iridochrysamphorists is that since the rainbow is actually in our minds only, then the pots of gold should be in our minds only – and that actually that pot of gold in our minds is a symbol for our own inner power given to us by WP:Heimdallr as a gift from the gods. To this I've not invented an answer yet. Rursus dixit (yada³!) 11:05, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

testosterone[edit]

I really don't get any of this. It's like a room full of kids poking each other with a stick. when did this place become so "ban" happy, so aggressive against others, etc. And it does seem like it's a few particular players on both (all?) sides that are always in it. Were you here when all this first blew up? 1 year ago or so (whenever i left) it was fun, games, teasing... now, that same thing but it seems to be very serious. or it's just me and i have no sense of humor left.Pink mowse.pngEn attendant Godot 00:34, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

There are more people. Some of these people don't like each other, and some of those people who don't like each other harass each other.--User:Brxbrx/sig 00:53, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

And (stupid question, but it's teh interent) this is long past the "fun" harrassment, right? and not to take sides, but it seems to me like all sides are part of the problem. everyone is very umm..reactive? My first thought was "BLOCK EVERYONE, HAND OUT A SHOT OF WHISKY, SING A ROUND OF SONGS then go back to whatever you were doing. :-) it's like anything else, it seems... once it gets going, it just takes off into the stratosphere for a few moments.Pink mowse.pngEn attendant Godot 01:09, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
When you have people vandalizing each others' user pages and flaming others who are unfailingly polite, I think it's obvious who the real troublemakers are.--User:Brxbrx/sig 01:13, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Brx, if you've ever studied hatfields and macoys or whatever might be the same vein in france, you'll know that it's NEVER one sided. today, maybe someone is messing with pages - but Brx, that didn't start today. it started (well, i don't know when, and that's the point).
Neb - i debated and debated that, but I don't see any women in this. then again, there are like 6 of us total. so maybe that's the reason and not hormones. ;-) it just seems like giant pissing contests sometimes. "I can block you" "yeah, well i can troll", "yeah, well i can take away your rights" "yeah, well i can sock up and do something else". And again, sterotype, but pissing contests seem so very male. ;-)
Well, you and Blue seemed to be going at each other, and I'm 85% sure Blue is a female--User:Brxbrx/sig 01:25, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

An Advice about Boring Stuff[edit]

If you find stuff boring, then don't read it. It's as simple as that.

As for the mathematical part of my boring stuff, I have two quotes for you.

„I tried very hard not to spend time on your [H. S. M. Coxeter's] integrals, but to me the challenge of a definite integral is irresistible.“ Godfrey Harold Hardy.

„The impossibility of integrating certain functions in elementary terms is one of the most esoteric subjects in mathematics.“ Michael Spivak

Each of these guys (including Coxeter) had an IQ several times your own. So for you boring means not understanding.

The other program I had in mind has also had dedicated followers, and again much, much more intelligent than you are.

Some soul-searching on your part might perhaps be in order. Pip-pip Sorte Slyngel (talk) 20:47, 17 March 2016 (UTC)s Wiki.

  1. What I found boring was your continuous badgering of Weaseloid for some imagined past harm.
  2. I didn't know you'd done any mathematical stuff.
  3. I have a UK Master's degree (admittedly from almost 50 years ago) whose main thrust was symbolic logic.
  4. My IQ when last measured (1970-ish) was over 160. IQ tests are basically measures of ability to take IQ tests and above about 130 are meaningless IMHO (In My Humble Opinion)
  5. Calculating someone's intelligence from a brief contact on a wiki was always doomed to failure.
  6. Your stuff on Iceland, I found fascinating although hardly relevant to this wiki.
Methinks thou hast been pwned.
Might I suggest that your own soul could do with some searching.

Subject closed.
No further response from me on this subject.
'Cause it's boring.
Pippa (talk) 00:18, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

I quite agree. IQ-tests are not to be trusted. You've been had. As for me, I have taken two of them, although I won't disclose the results — that would be boasting. Cheers Sorte Slyngel (talk) 17:59, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Sorry to disturb, and a reply is not expected[edit]

I have rather diverse interests, mathematics being one and my language another. This is just to say in answer to your comment of a subject being fascinating, but not relevant to RW, I did have essays in mind, not articles. It is relatively easy to jot down what you think of until you have something worthy of an essay. I'm far from being there. But in any case, which might sound strange coming from me, is my opinion that no piece of education can ever be bad. On the other hand, it would take years for me to gather what I thought would be sufficient. I do believe that a statement like, the following:

The equation

is often called the most beautiful formula in mathematics. I agree. Why is this to be preferred to the equivalent result of moving 1 to the right side and changing signs? As this stands above, the equation combines, arguably, the five most important numbers of all, three basic operation and possibly the most important equivalence relation of all. Moving 1 across reduces the numbers to three and the operations to two. (And, yes, moving would involve a negative number and thus imply an operation, but it is still not beautiful that way.)

is appropriate wherever. It's just a beautiful fact.

As for Icelandic and the Icelandic literature, I would never be able but to scratch the surface. The literature about Icelandic literature literally defies belief. That tends to be the case with mature literary languages. Remarkably enough — and Icelandic itself is an example — there is no practical limit of what has been and will be written about a particular language and its literature in terms of native speakers. Anyway it is an interesting subject in its own right.

I don't think you got the story of Weaseloid and me quite right. This was not about an imagined slight in the past.

As for what I can write when willing, you can just sneak in and read whatever I've written outside talk pages.

Not expecting an answer, but I wish you joy for this time. Sorte Slyngel (talk) 18:48, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

PS: I had to look „pwned“ up for a reminder. I don't think I have been, but that is open to interpretation. But since you seem to have some interests above the usual crowd here, I'll share what I thought, when the meaning of „pwned“ was explained to me again. Piet HeinWikipedia (1905-1996) was a Danish multitalent, who among other things composed epigrams under the pen name Kumbel. I instantly thought of one of my favorites, which goes:
„Lille kat, lille kat, lille kat på vejen!“
„Hvis er du, hvis er du?“ „Jeg er sgu min egen!“
This translates to — minus the poetry of course:
„Little cat, little cat, little cat on the road!“
„Whose are you, whose are you?“ „I'm bloody well my own!“
This covers what I thought precisely. Well, I've done my good deed for today — I believe giving bits of education a good thing, and teaching is the most satisfying job I've had. Hein is worth looking up. Cheers Sorte Slyngel (talk) 20:16, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Something I forgot[edit]

Since absorbing and distributing information is what I actually do best, you're hereby warned, that I will probably irritate you from time to time with the tidbit of the week or so. Since you won't answer, I can do this as I please and can hardly be called harassment. For instance the rather intricate and interesting structure of the subjunctive of að vera (to be) in Icelandic.

Second, I forgot to mention that my tendency to get involved in feuds here has a great deal to do with the now departed user, who was the second to greet me here. That led me to check out what he was writing and I instantly found myself in a minefield.

Third and last: Soul-searching is something I do on a regular basis. My soul may be a very dark shade of grey, but I'm quite aware of that.

This should cover it for now. If you really don't want some interesting trivia written here every now and then, just say so, but I trust you'll keep your word of not answering anything. It is almost impossible that you don't read your messages. Jotting those down is something I do for fun, and my „victims“ are many. If this counts as harassment, then you'll have to say so. Otherwise I'll just „write into the void“ as ideas present themselves, and this is not to be understood as „kissing and making up“. It's just the certainty that what I write will be read — and when in the mood, which I usually am, believe it or not, this is meant as amusement, not torture. :-) Cheers Sorte Slyngel (talk) 23:52, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Is it by design...[edit]

That the assertion at the top of your user page provides a complete answer to the question at the bottom? I'm confused by the rhetorical format. However you are quite right. The reason we do not have a word for someone who does not believe that rainbows end in pots of gold is because no notable group of believers exists to be contrasted with. I, like you, long for the day that it will be considered highly peculiar to take ancient mythology seriously in any way. But I think it also goes without saying that neither of us will live to see that day. Jalamookoofoo (talk) 21:55, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
