How to undo a page move[edit]

Move it back. Do not delete the page at the new location and recreate it with the content at the old. That creates a fork, and page history is lost, which also creates licensing issues (who contributed the page content?), besides being confusing as hell. I make mistakes, for sure, such as moving the pages back to DenialGate rather than Denialgate, just a slip. Fixed, including cleaning up the redirects. I know you think I'm a n00b, and in many ways I am. But I've also been a highly active WikiMedia sysop, and I seek consensus, even if I act boldly. I've restored the pages to the Stupid State you and David Gerard wanted, and we'll see what happens.

Yes, I also know you've been here since 2007. And that goes to show what? --Abd (talk) 22:31, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Again, you're welcome! And thank you for the demonstration of what it is to be someone like you. As to creating forks, watch out for that, unless, of course, you want a promotion, in which case, go for it. Next time I won't fix it. Clean up your own mess, or someone else will, and ... perhaps they will enjoy it. Why, PF, would you please come and poop on our floor again? Look, if I were you, with your history here, I'd want to be promoted too, I'm already starting to feel the attraction. Good luck. --Abd (talk) 22:42, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Jerk sauce is very good indeed. So what are "Neoliberal adventures in 'public; transportation"? ТyAhoy! 02:08, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
They are what happens when public services like regular reliable buses and roads with a certain degree of structural integrity are deemed--typically because of IMF/World Bank conditionality-- to be something that the government can no longer afford to support, so one must get around a horribly potholed city in taxis/taxivans driven by young men who need to squeeze as many passengers and runs into a long day's work as they can in order to eke out a living. This means that they must drive as fast as possible and weave in and out of traffic to avoid as much as possible getting stuck at a time-wasting red light or behind traffic moving too slowly to make the venture profitable. But on the other hand, the fares they are allowed to charge are set by the state, so there's no means or incentive to either get better/more comfortable vehicles, which would be stupid to do because the roads are so shit that your car is gonna fall apart anyway. You wanna get rich? Move to Kingston and sell tires. How often do you see somebody changing a tire by the side of the road in the town where you live? NEVER. Average number of timesa day I saw that in Kingston: 3. P-Foster Talk ""Santorum is the cream rising to the top."" 02:17, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

No, Thannad, he does have a need to be a nasty prick. Between his failing marriage and stagnant research, he has nothing left to do except play bully boy to those of us not "lucky" enough to be in his little cabal. We're on his turf here, if only because he's around enough to cut the grass, which is ironic because he's the snake in said grass. Exposing his lies because he can. An exhibitionist of lies and deceit. He does this because he doesn't think you, or I, or anybody else can do anything about it. I've seen him run off enough good faith editors to recognize his as the poison he his to this place. He's toxic, Thannad, and if you continue to try and "handle" him, you will meet your end on this wiki. Be warned about Mr. Foster. Be warned about the sad state of affairs on this wiki. Fuck him, he's a troll. The fact that we waste electrons on hateful idiots who are only here to stir up drama themselves in the first place is the reason why this community can be so dysfunctional. He was disagreeing. He was doing so in a non-disruptive way. He was reasonable with his edits, and open to working with others.
I would urge caution before you start taking the power unto yourself to judge and unilaterally ban people from RationalWiki because you consider them a troll. I do not think that I am smart enough or objective enough to make that assessment about people with which I argue - you might want to think about whether or not you really think yourself able to do so.
Blithe and facile "fuck him he's a troll" is easy. Tolerating opposing views is hard.--ADtalkModerator 23:26, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
I have full confidence that I am both smart and objective enough to spot hateful trolling. Some viewpoints are simply intolerable--bigotry directed at an entire community based on nothing more than pig-headed ignorance falls into that category. You might want to think about growing a fuckin' pair instead of putting up with what is clearly bullshit designed only to reproduce hatred. P-Foster Talk "The existing superstructure has handed out crumbs. We don’t want crumbs; we want the whole loaf now.” --Ras Frank I 23:31, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
I assure you, I don't lack for conviction. I very nearly brought this concern to the Chicken Coop, since it concerns me that you think you are wise enough to be the sole arbiter of whether or not another editor gets to speak. The rules and community consensus are very clear: barring obvious vandalism or other flagrant abuse, no one person gets to be God of RationalWiki. If you think someone is upsetting enough to ban, then there has to be a vote.--ADtalkModerator 23:52, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
I have full confidence that I am both smart and objective enough to spot hateful trolling. If that is true, then you are not. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:19, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

To my mind, "other flagrant abuse" includes clear hate speech. end of story. I've done it before, I'll prolly do it again. P-Foster Talk "The existing superstructure has handed out crumbs. We don’t want crumbs; we want the whole loaf now.” --Ras Frank I 23:54, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

That is not flagrant abuse in the sense I meant.. Flagrant abuse is purely destructive changes to the wiki designed only to damage it in the short term, such as blocking large numbers of people, posting enormous images designed to make a page unreadable, posting people's personal information, or the like. In such a circumstance, where there can be no serious defense of the action or question as to its appropriateness, and where it is causing immediate problems, we can go ahead and block people.
That is why our community standards explicitly say, "Blocking should only be used on spambots and vandals." They do not say, "Blocking should only be used on spambots and vandals and on people P-Foster decides just don't belong."
Please do not do it again. I know it can be frustrating dealing with some people and decisive action might seem best, cutting through all that bullshit and the annoyance of rules. But it just doesn't work very well to let individuals decide what is an acceptable opinion.--ADtalkModerator 00:03, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

They're a totally fringe website of zero importance, there are legit criticisms of Romney that are actually worth dealing with. P-Foster Talk "The existing superstructure has handed out crumbs. That's different, 'cause that's an article ABOUT METAPEDIA, and what they say is relevant to an article about the damn website. What they say is irrelevant in virtually any other circumstance. It's really pretty simple. It's the same reason why we're not gonna talk about what CP says about Romney in the Romney article, but we will talk about it in CP-space. WIGO:World; Conservapedia->Fox News->(neither)[edit]

The reason I put Conservapedia there was because they'll publish anything if it puts a bug up Andy's ass, no matter how divorced from reality it is. Fox News, while far more popular, has financial considerations Schlafly's effectively-unmonetized site doesn't. It was more to evoke the focus on nutjob conspiracy theory bloggers and sites instead of something even pretending to look like real journalism (that would be Fox News). I just removed referencing a second one altogether instead. Ochotonaprincepsnot a pokémon 12:57, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Offense[edit]

I know we disagree on a number of points about how the site should work, but that doesn't mean that we should be at odds. I think your recent revision of the Community Standards revision was spot on, though I think it's a little premature to say that we have "formalised" rules. Also, for all that I get made fun of with the "we should vote on a panel to decide when to vote on the parameters of the electoral vote" stuff, I recognize the power of uncodified consensus, having been at RW for - what is it - over four years now? jegus. Blue (pester) 03:53, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

It's all good. You want to offend me? Be like Brx and engage in his brand of hipster racism. Be like Rob and troll the site with stupidity. Disagreeing on a bunch of administrative stuff? Not worth taking offense over. I've said it before, and I'll say it again--there are folks here who aren't fans of yours. I don't get that. You're okay by me. Theory of Practice "the standards of the site are ultimately an expression of the community makeup, and not a set of rules or policies." 03:58, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Glad to see you took one of my stupid trolling ideas and codified it into RationalWiki law. My only regret is how it had to be done, but that usually is because of having to deal with thickheaded numbskulls like yourself. nobsCorporations are people, too 16:43, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Actually, Rob, you're wrong again. Unsurprisingly really, with you been both woefully undereducated and fundamentally stupid. While you "trollingly" argued that we should "end the mobocracy and impose rules..." I have been arguing that we should DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE. So I haven't taken one of your ideas at all. When I made this edit. I was acknowledging what has happened not arguing for a particular position. Dummy. Theory of Practice "the standards of the site are ultimately an expression of the community makeup, and not a set of rules or policies." 18:28, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying. Actually I never stated the codification was a position you advocated or support, only that my initial proposal has now become law. Your actions show a limited amount of balanced thinking and an ability to tolerate a community consensus at odds with your own agenda. Speaking for the majority, we appreciate your help in cleaning up the Community Standards page. nobsCorporations are people, too 18:36, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry to have confused you, dummy. What that was is something called a "joke. You see, the conversation was happening on a page about CP, where there has been a longstanding conversation about the merits of the two quarterbacks in question. When I saw the names of one of those quarterbacks in a news report about the shooter, I thought it might be funny to reference that conversation. I'm really, really sorry that that was too complicated for you to understand. I will try to keep your lack of education and low natural intelligence in mind when making postings in the future, dummy. And what about that crack re: his wife? Get this: 1. The website is wholly owned and operated by a not-for-profit organization. 2. The internet is a big place, and we have pissed off a number of people who live there. 3. One of those people reporting that we are using our tax-exempt not-for-profit status to host your stroke fantasies about the wife of a guy whos's a marginal public figure runs the risk of creating hassles for said foundation, which is run by people that I consider friends. So grow up or take a hike. Theory of Practice "the standards of the site are ultimately an expression of the community makeup, and not a set of rules or policies." 01:35, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
You're right. That was too far. I was too fired-up and I crossed the line. Hiphopopotamus (talk) 01:37, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
What I don't get is why this particular screed is so spectacularly offensive as to warrant memory-holing because of the RWF's 501(c)(3) status. This is a site that proudly hosts a wide selection of pornographic images for no discernible purpose; surely that's of some concern? I'm definitely not defending the rant, but I'm curious as to why your explanation of your actions is couched in potential hassles for our nonprofit status. Blue (pester) 03:21, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
(EC)I can't answer your question as to why what I said was couched over something else on this site, I can surmise that it was more offensive. Having been called out on it, and having a minute to think about it, I can agree with it. What I said had no benefit to this site that I am so fond of, and was probably detrimental. So I will contain my comments to, "Fuck Andy" and, "Fuck Andy hard". Hiphopopotamus (talk)

Partly I pulled it out of my ass, to be honest--but I read the minutes of the last meeting today, and so the larger corporate stakes of the whole RWF thing was on my mind. I mean, Andy might not be a great guy, but he is a lawyer of at least some competence--I imagine a letter by him written to the right folks could create some headaches--and if someone wrote that about my wife on a website owned by a charity, I know I'd be tempted to do something to mess with their shit. Theory of Practice "the standards of the site are ultimately an expression of the community makeup, and not a set of rules or policies." 03:25, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
