Delete[edit]

  1. These categories are so vague and arbitrary as to be meaningless. I suspect they're used much more for compulsive labelling than they are for actual page navigation by readers. they appear across hundreds of pages on unrelated subjects and they're an occasional source of some of the most pointless wheel-warring. & They undermine any point they might once have made by putting such "extremists" as Michael Moore and Mel Gibson in the same bag as dictators and terrorists. €₳$£ΘĪÐWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 00:17, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

  8. God, I can't muster the enthusiasm for killing this you guys can. It's actually a hard choice. It's problematic because ever add or remove is a debate. Not a good thing. But if you click those categories and can't see the unifying thread, you're crazy. ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 21:59, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Keep[edit]

  1. This page now only exists to redirect people to one of the more specific categories of the far-right and will rarely be used (with justification). It will only be used in the exceptionally rare circumstance (maybe ten article tops) of equal overlap between all three categories of wingnut, such as the MRA movement, or other very broad far-right/reactionary movements, or certain pages such as for the clogosphere since that can be all three categories too. (PS could someone do something about Roosh V I can't find where he's categorized, move him to probably authoritarian right as he manages to treat women as even less than second class citizens.) ClothCoat (talk) 04:51, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
  2. The subcats are better & are useful Herr FüzzyCätPötätö (talk/stalk) 21:42, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Goat[edit]

  • I vote to phase out this category in favor of breaking it down into two or more categories so it's more helpful and organized. I do think we should have a category for the extreme/anti-rational left and extreme/anti-rational right because it pertains to the mission statement and so people can read through either if they find it interesting. I was on the verge of breaking it down into "libertarian wingnuttery" and "authoritarian wingnuttery", I think that will work for now, with perhaps a third category called "horrific wingnuttery/moonbattery" for the terrorist/murderous far right/left. Weasal can remove people he feels are not important enough to go under either (such as Mel Gibson) though I'd like to note that notability is not suppose to be very important for us. ClothCoat (talk) 00:23, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
  • That sounds good, too, for the legitimate examples. Beware, tho, that categories (like Category:Hard green) already exist for many cats. oʇɐʇoԀʇɐϽʎzznℲ (talk/stalk) 00:32, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
  • +1 to this, do please continue - David Gerard (talk) 10:18, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
  • I agree with this, and with the six new divisions that have recently been established (authoritarian/conservative/libertarian wingnuttery, authoritarian/liberal/libertarian moonbattery) along with the seventh one (centrist stupidity); there are so many diverse pages fitting these categories as to warrant the new, more specific and meaningful categories - each of which can then be individually accessed from other related categories such as "Authoritarianism" or "Conservatism". Perhaps these 6 or 7 new categories can be also contained within one umbrella category called "Political extremism" or something like that. --Yisfidri (talk) 07:29, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
  • Alternatively, we could purge the examples and leave only the worst of the worst. |₹Λ¥$€₦₦ Star of David.png Kyubey stares into your soul. /人◕‿‿◕人\ 13:34, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
  • We could use these categories as either a category new users can use, who're not sure, exactly which kinda wingnuttery/moonbattery an article deals with (so that more experienced editors can transfer it into the appropriate category, if needed) or for wingnuttery/moonbattery, which doesn't fall into any of the other categories.--Arisboch (talk) 13:50, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
  • Is it not time someone closes this? —Bilorv (smells) 01:00, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I see five comments in favour of the new categories & seven in favour of deletion if you discount FuzzyCatPotato who seems to have changed his mind. Deleting the cats from every page will be quite a big job so I'd rather the outcome was clearer first. WēāŝēīōīďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 06:40, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Nah, most of the articles have been moved to the new smaller subcategories. There's only a few pages left in these categories. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 07:21, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
But the subcategories are as stupid as the original ones. WèàšèìòìďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 21:39, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm not really a fan of them either, but this AfD isn't about the subcategories. If you wanna delete them, feel free to start up a discussion at a new AfD page. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 21:54, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, this AfD is about the subcategories too. I specifically nominated these cats for deletion before ClothCoat put in place his restructure plan so that we could get rid of them before he wasted time doing so. The fact that's he's gone ahead & done it on like two people's say-so rather than waiting out the vote doesn't invalidate the votes for deletion. WèàšèìòìďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 22:04, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
The world belongs to the swift.--Arisboch (talk) 22:07, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I find the reasoning that this AfD applies to the new subcategories too kinda hard to follow when they were created after this AfD went up. Maybe you'd vote the same for the subcategories as you've voted for the initial 2 categories, but that's not necessarily true for all those who voted to delete here. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 22:16, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Well anybody could rename or split a nominated page or category so that it's technically no longer nominated for deletion, but this is really just gaming the system. My nomination here was directly prompted by ClothCoat saying he wanted to split these inane moonbattery/wingnuttery categories into even more inane version of the same, so that we could seek consensus on this first. We can either respect the AfD process & let the mob decide or participate in a chess game where we keep moving the goalposts so that we have to renominate & vote all over again for something only marginally different which might be changed again within a few hours before the vote has played out. WéáśéĺóíďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 22:31, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Sometimes people improve pages that are nominated for deletion -- eg Panthera. Then votes based on the old status quo are irrelevant, yes. The purpose of AFD iss to kill/improve trash, not to follow strict rules FU22YC47P07470 (talk/stalk) 22:41, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
That was a case where most votes are against deletion. & I don't agree that changing stuff during an AfD deletion makes existing votes irrelevant, especially here where I specifically raised the AfD so that the issue could be resolved before the changes were implemented & when that process wasn't honoured by letting the AfD run its course before implementing changes. ŴêâŝêîôîďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 22:52, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
To be honest, it wasn't particularly clear that the point of this AfD was to delete the listed pages and stop these smaller categories from being created. ClothCoat was the one who mentioned the latter. If he hadn't, how would this AfD have any noticable connection to him creating the smaller categories? 141.134.75.236 (talk) 23:19, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
